I was just noticing that the gem comm was called a cluster. Maybe more than one gem could come out of a cluster. Maybe 2-4 depending on how high your jewelry skill is?
Unknown2004-10-27 07:56:20
thatd be nice. 350 average for a darn gem comm and you only get one SALT from it sometimes.. *mumbles something about salt not being a girls best friend*

I was under the impression Magnagora and Celest sold gem commodities for 100 gold per. Serenwilde generally has plenty in stock ranging between 150-250 in price, depending how pricy they were for Bau to buy.

But several gems would be good.
Unknown2004-10-27 08:29:22
its depends, havent been buying them for a few days but when i so the least ive paid is 260

gems has definitly been the bane to my forging existance. I don't know if you people are aware but some of the better forging items require between 10 and 30 gems. And considering I've bought plenty at 100 gold and never spent more than 250 on a gem, I can't understand where people come off selling gems for crazy prices. a single diamond just is not worth 1500 gold. if I buy 15 gems, odds are I'll get atleast 1 diamond, if not some other good gem, and I could sell the rest of the gems for a profit. So far I've gotten a good amount of diamonds that way and can't see any rational for selling them so high.

Maybe I should start saying steel is 225 gold considering I can buy it for that amount, and charge a minimum of 17K for chain armor.

While I am thinking of it. I think 7 gold bars to make one ring is rather weird. Unless the gold bars are the size of toothpicks

You think forging is bad, you try making greatrobes. 10 diamonds, 5 rubies, 5 amethysts. On the bright side, my attempts at finding diamonds have left me with enough amethysts and rubies for four sets of greatrobes. Minimum I can make greatrobes for seems to be 21k. And that's being optimistic.

The maces I want, and mind you, I need two of them. are
steel 50 iron 15 onyx 15 diamond 10 platinum 6 leather 3 wood 1
and thats nothing compared to the people who wnat broadswords:
steel 70 bloodstone 15 opal 10 gold 10 diamond 5

And just having one of those weapons really throws you off unless you get really lucky with timing.

How long do they last, though? My clothes last between 39 and 80+ months, at present... the last set of robes I made had 81 months on them, and I am at fabled tailoring at present. The 50 silk, 10 cloth and 10 gold does not help, either, for a set of robes which then need to be enchanted and require a full vial (50 sips) of fire, frost and vitae. And obviously cannot be worn with armour.
Daganev2004-10-27 09:26:37
that doesn't sound right, armor use to last a short time like that.. you guys should talk to roark
Bau2004-10-27 09:29:10
*is a novice now* who's in charge of tailoring? I made a pair of shoes the other day that had 39 months on them *cry*
Daganev2004-10-27 09:31:32
Roark know all. the BUG command is really handy when it comes to that stuff
one time I actually went to Roark's master shrine and -very politly- brought attention to our forging plight and I was shocked to get a responce not too long later

I've had significantly less luck in cracking diamonds out of gems comms. I bought up 100 comms, got with my jeweler friend and had her tap them all. Out of the 100 comms we started with I got maybe 7 diamonds out of the whole thing.
Bau2004-10-27 10:33:43
20k+ on gems and only three diamonds... *sigh*
Shoshana2004-10-27 13:11:08
There are 14 types of gems. The probability of getting any one of them seems to be pretty equal, and I suspect that the probability of getting powerstones goes up with skillrank. Therefore getting 7 diamonds out of 100 gems is actually a pretty reasonable result...

I do agree that there should at least be a way to specify what sort of gem you're looking for (If it's a cluster of gems then maybe there are several types in there to choose from if you're skilled enough?), although the higher-end things are not meant to be easy to make... The whole point of them is that they are special and should take an effort to collect the commodities for.
Bau2004-10-27 13:27:46
Speshul, shmeshul. Twenty-five thousand plus on the commodities alone for a garment that isn't even going to last you three RL months...
Unknown2004-10-27 13:35:00
It's true that Magnagora sells Gem commodities at 100 per.....the problem is actually FINDING them before someone buys them out.

On the positive side, I spent 1.3k on 8 gems in Dairuchi and cut a diamond so that helps *cackle*

Since I have been gemcutting for other people and stuff, I have probably cut 10 diamonds my entire jewelry career.

18 Gems were cut for me, only thing I think I got from all 18 was a single bloodstone. Diamonds are rare and everything needs them unfortunately.

dont forget insane fullplate, 200 steel 5 diamond 10 cloth
and we need two weapons per knight.. people only need one greatrobe ya know
Bau2004-10-28 09:28:06
How long does fullplate last for? And an awful lot more people require greatrobes.
