Perhaps we should be able to Nature Flow to Miakoda...it should certainly stop or cut down on a lot of the channel flooding.
Bau2004-10-28 13:34:13
That would be so damn wonderful, but then everyone else would need the same thing too...
Unknown2004-10-28 13:52:29
The way they could solve the everyone needing the same thing problem is just make teleporting to them a possibility. It's an ability that close to everyone has and those that don't can easily get.
Unknown2004-10-28 15:36:15
I don't think so, it would make escaping from a fight to easy.
Unknown2004-10-28 15:39:21
Wouldn't flow really do the same thing though? And the thing is, with teleport, you have to have balance....and doesn't someone attacking you stop your concentration?
Unknown2004-10-28 16:48:40
I'm not saying don't let people use teleport, but let them use flow. I'm saying don't let anyone do this. Taking the time to ask for a target can make all the difference in winning or losing a battle. Think how easily someone can get away if they knew someone was a safe target...all the time.
Unknown2004-10-28 18:17:45
But if being hit stops teleporting then no matter who or where the target it is, it ain't gunna' happen.
Unknown2004-10-28 19:11:07
Heh. Flow already works while you guys are, at the very least, webbed.. Now you want it to be able to go to certain targets?
Although I do think that a high level planar skill should let you set a waypoint or somesuch.

I wasn't thinking of a way to escape battles. If you read what I wrote you'll realise I was suggesting it as a way to reduce the constant ct "Mother target?".
Unknown2004-10-29 01:26:00
Visaeris is raising a valid point, specifically that a side-effect of your suggested change would be providing an even more insanely easy way to escape combat.

I understand completely. But the ct "Mother target?" is at least a mild hassle that counterbalances the fact that you can flow while webbed and prone and such *smirk*

Fair enough...
Maybe we should just establish a specific channel for targets then...so people can turn the flow channel off if they don't want to see people saying 'flow target' every few minutes.
BTW flowing from webbing does kind of make sense...since the skill has to do with your body dissipating and entering the Ether or something...it's not like we just zoom to the location in physical form.

Although it is kinda OOC how you can flow to anyone in a forest, but -gasp- not the NPCs! There's probably some weird IC explanation for that.
But but yeah, I agree. You can't have EVERY denizen flow/teleportable, else things would be too easy. But maybe make each Nexus-keeper flowable/teleportable for members of that city/commune?

How about "nexus home". (OK, maybe we're getting too mage-y.) Anyway, would be a medium-ish planar skill, takes 10 seconds, inturrupted by movement, inturrupted by damage (if someone portals to you and kicks you, it stops it, either by you moving or you taking damage), can't do it while webbed, etc. Only good for getting from somewhere safe to your nexus without creating spam. Oh, and only works if you belong to a city/commune.
Edit: Plus... a huge willpower drain, perhaps?

It makes mild sense, but it's also a smidge overpowered.. Since there's no damn way to hold someone still! (not that i've found yet anyways)
Unknown2004-10-29 15:22:45
Wouldn't paralyze stop someone from flowing? The cool thing about being a warrior is that we can hit people as they try to flee so if you have them within one or two hits from death, they'll most likely die anywho
Unknown2004-10-29 17:55:27
Nexus Home is a cool idea. That should be implemented. -puppy eye Gods-
Olan2004-10-29 18:05:18
I think Nexus Home is a pretty good idea, as long as its done right...think about it, by the time someone asks for a target, gets a response, enters the teleport command, then actually goes through...thats some significant time. Maybe 10-15 seconds. So, make the skill take AT LEAST that long. Make it interrupted by anything, getting hit or taking an action or sending a tell for that matter. Make it expressly NOT a way to escape combat unless you can stay away from your foe for 15+ seconds, in which case you could get away any number of other ways. Make it only work on the main continent of the Prime plane, or alternately, make it also work on planes where your nexus has an instantiation, but it only returns you to the nexus on that plain (ie, nexushome from the mountains of madness on Earth would return me to the Megalith on earth, not in Magnagora).
If it doesn't significantly affect combat, doesn't give anyone an ability that they couldn't otherwise do 99% of the time (how often is someone NOT at the Nexus, seriously), and reduces significantly the channel traffic...I dunno, seems like a pretty good idea. Put it up there in Planar if you want, near gateweave or something...its like making a temp gate somewhere, just long enough for you to go through?

Frankly I'm not really fond of Teleport being so low.. Seems to really trivialise travel. But, I think NexusHome would be a damned good idea if implemented similar to what Olan described..
Maybe replace Teleport with NexusHome and move Teleport up a few skillranks?

Not a bad idea actually.
