Decaying Packs

Back to Ideas.

Didn't know whether to put this on Idiots or Ideas. In the end, I figured it's more suggesting than ranting.

Isn't the decay time for packs a little...low? So low that it's just annoying and unrealistic? In real life, packs don't decay after 30 months. Maybe there could be different sorts of packs sold in different villages, the better the pack the longer the decay time. If you did that, the canvas backpack price would have to be way reduced. ninja.gif

i just got a really cool black and silk leather pack...im gonna cry when it decays...24 months...
Unknown2004-11-08 21:14:56
and dont you find it wierd you can wear multiple packs? i was able to put 5 on...would wear more but ran out of packs

My pack just decayed recently as well. I think they should definitely last more than 30 days, or offer some that do.
Unknown2004-11-08 21:33:43
it would be nice
Shamarah2004-11-08 21:53:07
Tailored stuff lasts for only about 30 days. At least, everything I've tailored so far (Gifted Tailor)... I'm not sure if it goes up based on your skill level.

I could understand a t-shirt only lasting two years before being unusable, but a rugged pack? Should last 4 or more, I'd say.

I agree with all of you so far. My canvas backpack decayed and I checked every shop in the Basin for a new pack, but found nothing. I finally got a transcendent tailor to make a new leather backpack for me and was dismayed to see that it will only last a couple of years. I definitely think packs should last longer, especially for the price. I mean, pocketbelts last for about 600 months and packs last for only 24-30? Definitely a problem. I've got a ton of things to spend my gold on and I'd like to be able to stretch things just a little further than this. Think about the people who maybe don't play more than one or two hours a week. Are they going to be able to buy a new pack every month?

It's all a plot to get us to buy artifact packs!
Unknown2004-11-10 15:15:05
Heheh! Yeah! Now if I could only afford the credits to BUY the artifact pack...not to mention the skills that would make me a halfway decent Viscanti at all :-P

100k and no pack. I'm uh, playing it safe till I get one.

Ever thought of using a bank?

You don't need to be a citizen as long as you're not enemied.

Armor was the same way in the begining. Looks like nobody complained aobut tailoring early on enough for it to get the simple fix it needs. All crafted things, unless theres some unqiueness to it should last 200-300 months.
Shamarah2004-11-11 02:46:03
It shouldn't last *that* long, or tailors would never get any business except from newbies.
Silvanus2004-11-11 02:54:14
You really can't base this upon real life.. because I highly doubt I could summon up an archdemon that can paralyse you, which you can cure just by focusing your body.

Anybody notice ...this?

ab tailoring mending

Syntax: MEND
For a small gold outlay, you can mend clothing and make it almost as good as new. However, each time you mend an article of clothing, its prestige will drop lower and lower, until eventually it will drop to a negative prestige and become tattered rags. It should be noted that those with clothing of a negative prestige will perform better in a charity ego battle.

I haven't actually used it yet, but I would think this would be where the ability comes in..

I think this is more for damaged items. I am still unsure of how items get damaged but jewelers have a similar ability. What I am thinking is that through things like Enchantments, your item weakens until it can finally break. I would say that with weapons, they might break with use but that gets beyond frustrating for me.

*Edit-Stupid double posts. Sorry about that.

I've known about this for a while, but knights took priority. The reason for this is that knights had everything go wrong with them and so deserve the most bug-fixing reward. Fixing this is not as simple as it seems, particularly since I did not write tailoring so am not very familiar with the code.

Next on my list since I suspect knights are finished: tailoring decay time, address any cartel problems, and look into any enchantment issues.
