Right, just to let you know - I'm horribly biased against losing any experience when dying. I consider exp I get my own property, and when I die, I lose that property, so I feel like being stolen from. Moreover, it never says anywhere why we lose experience when dying, especially when praying. In Achaea, for example, Sarapis makes a deal with the dead one - life for part of the soul, that is some experience. However, in Lusternia, the dead one feels enlightened when looking at the whole cycle of life and death - how could we lose experience for such a thing?
Enough ranting, this isn't the idiots forum. I know that we need penalties when we die, otherwise the whole place would be filled with pk-crazed berserkers. So, I was thinking about an alternative punishment for those who are too eager to let their souls escape their bodies.
Why not have something like this: each time you die and pray for salvation, you receive a -1 (perhaps two) point penalty to each of your stats, excluding size, for one Lusternian day. Therefore, with each death the person's combat abilities would be decreased temporarily, and if the person continues to die, eventually she/he would have a splendid one point in all stats, as well as impressive fighting capabilities of a 6-year old.
Note 1: Since you wouldn't lose experience while dying, the killer wouldn't get the experience too.
Note 2: When dying and being rezzed in the pool/using vitae potion/lichdom/ressurection, or losing an ego battle, the whole penalty could not be applied, but prefferably - the person would still lose statistic points, but only for 15 minutes, for example.
The whole thing would succeed in reducing the frustration of killed, especially pk-ed people (come on, this is a GAME - we are not here to frustrate ourselves, are we?), as well as general level of unneeded deaths - that is, the ones that were dealt only to spite the killed person. On the other side, during raids etc the combat capabilities of defenders/attackers/innocent bystanders could be literally decimated.

I hate losing experience too...but I think it should stay. It is the best deterant we have (that is feasable) to stop people from going pk-crazy like you said. It also teaches people to be careful and to learn how to fight, rather than just bash bash bash until death.

If this had any chance of being implemented, I'd imagine millions of level 100 people running around.
Shamarah2004-11-13 15:26:07
Did you play Guild Wars, Cuber?
I like that idea, but it needs some sort of more "permanent" loss. Maybe a lessened EXP loss and what you suggested? I agree that the EXP loss is a bit too steep, considering how hard it is to level.

Luckily none of these suggestions will ever get implemented!

I don't think it would really work. Although there does definitely need to be a reduce in experience loss, (it's stupid at the moment), those other ideas wouldn't stop people from PKing randomly as much as experience loss does.
Thorgal2004-11-13 17:58:30
Just keep up vitae and the loss will be minimal, the only way you'll die again right after is when you're raiding or someodd stuff, if you just stay clear from wars and keep up vitae, you should never have to pray, lest you're just doing stupid things.

You are a Serenwilden, it shouldn't be that hard to get Vitae.
Thorgal2004-11-13 19:37:49
Even as Magnagoran or Celestian it was poop-easy getting vitae.
Zolas2004-11-14 00:58:20
I used to complain about heaby experience loss. Now I've learned to keep Vitae up at all times.
Unknown2004-11-14 02:40:17
Some experience loss is reasonable in my opinion
Unknown2004-11-14 03:53:36
If theres no big loss, people wont care about dying.
I say keep the big loss. It should hurt to die. If you ask why you should lose experiance when you die, I ask why you can get better at tailoring from doing a lot of fighting. Its just how it works.
I fail to see how this contributes to the discusion....

I'm sorry, but the exp loss is just...too much. Imperian has an exp loss of 30%, which seems right to me. I lost a full level (Went from 30% on one level to 30% on the lower level) , and I prayed as soon as I died. That's just ridiculous.
Thorgal2004-11-14 09:19:10
Alyvia please, sip vitae.
Shiri2004-11-14 10:26:14
Well, maybe it does need to be toned down a bit, I'll say. Because there's so MUCH PK for Magnagora and Celest, the smaller people are losing like 3 levels a day in some cases. Which is kinda a bit much. I'd say it should be toned down. Or if not, ease up on the experience loss almost EVERY race has. Except for like Viscanti and Humans, I think everyone else (I haven't thoroughly checked) loses experience gain. Meh.
Thorgal2004-11-14 11:32:30
A starburst in achaea costs 1K on inks, or 2.5K from Vinci, a single vial of vitae for 2K gold is the same as 60 starburts in achaea, I can't get why not everyone gets himself a vitae and keeps it up at all times, instead of whining about exp loss.
This is the same as saying:
"Knights hurt man!"
"But you're not using armour, shields, rebounding or skills!?"
"Pishposh, they hurt too much! Downgrade!"

I think the power cost is more notable than the potion cost, but it's still a good point.

10 power is a small price for saving you the loss of 50-90% experience, it's not like power is a rare commodity.
