Imagine a merian, let's say his name was... *think* Rebuc. Yea, that's it.
Now, Rebuc is walking around the Newton Caverns and killing stuff. He earns enough gold to buy his first credit - it costed 2000 gold. Next month, credit prices are 1400 average and they continue to drop.
Some months after that, Rebuc is going to buy herbs to finish his guild requirements (yes, some of the guilds already have them!). He buys some Calamus at 150 per, and Horehound at 300+ per. During the following months, prices of herbs drop so much that Sparkleberry costs less then a hundred.
About two years later, Rebuc is a hardened fighter... well, hardened mostly because rigor mortis (no, I don't mean the affliction) makes people really tough at some point. Anyway, he gets extremely angry at the impossibility of killing Magnagorans, because of their Lich+Ghost combo. Because of that, they begin to totally own the whole basin. In an act of frustration, he commits suicide...
Of course, next month Lichdom gets totally nerfed and Magnagorans retreat back to their territory.
Hearing that, the spirit of Rebuc wants to come back. Yet, he hesitates. After some time, he finally makes a decision - I will return when Lusternia gets out of Beta. When finally the realm goes gold, Rebuc discovers that everyone who had their character created during the beta phase gets 75 credits. Ouch.
No matter he had a title of Ill-Fated.

What an unlucky fella, wasn't he? Now let's change the perspective...
Having bought his first credit, Rebuc discovers credit prices are dropping. And good! Now he can buy them much cheaper.
The same thing for herbs, a few months later.
Magnagorans aren't pwning Celest so much anymore? Well, although Rebuc cannot experience it, his soul is happy that at least his friends can be safe in their city now, and with the Lichdom skill nerfed (no matter was it unfair to do so or not), they can strike back.
Finally, two days before the beta ended, Rebuc made a second (well, not really a second since the real Rebuc was already dead). Rebuc just wanted to use him to check the events in Lusternia, news and other stuff. But since the second got the credits (totally legal), Rebuc's now keeping him. No, he's not going to tell anyone which city or guild is that second from - you can only be sure he's not from Magnagora.
(EDIT: had to fix a typo)

Magnagorans aren't

OH. NOW I just realized why I suddenly had a lot more credits on my account than I thought I should.
As a sidenote, I now really really wish I had made an elf character during Beta, just in case it didn't work out with Cronus. Which it isn't. If I had, I would be playing as him right now, with the 75cr bonus.
At least you learnt from the experience. Never suicide a MUD character during the Beta period, our you might miss your credit bonus.

I was touched when I got them. Really. Thank you, Divine!

Yay for the memory of Cuber... his statue's still up above the Pool of Stars, it's an oddly fitting memorial

I remember bragging around over CT that my statue is right near the Supernal symbols, so I could be a sixth Supernal... then Isune walked in and said that if I continue to do that, she'll put the statue down .
