Hey people,
This is my first post! Goody-Goody for me.
I play as a Lucidian and I'm having a little trouble grasping what one actually looks like. When I first made my character I was thinking of this rather intense looking creature that resembled some sort of ice demon in that he was formed of jagged blue crystal with these icicle tips for hair and a single straight shot out under his chin and such like that. But as I played and thought I began to wonder if Lucidians are more human-like in appeaence with smooth skin and shape, like a human in shape and proportion but formed out of a flesh-like crystal. And THEN I wondered that if I'm made out of crystal, can my face show expression? Do I have joints so I move without cracking or are there sections of "fleshy" crystal? Am I totally off-base here?
And I thought it'd be cool if Lucidian's wept crystal tears.
That last one was free Can someone help me out though? Cuz I have no idea what I should look like now more then ever.

Right right... there's already a thread like this isn't there?
Rauros2004-11-18 16:28:05
Judging by your name, you're supposed to look like a little green runt who talks in a raspy voice and in sentences constructed with the latter half in front.
Unknown2004-11-18 16:40:57
I imagine lucidians as your first description, but as it's already been explained before - descriptions can change a lot from person to person, depending how much racial blood you have in you. Interspecies breeding ain't a crime in Lusternia. So I guess you can be either one or t'other.

I always pictured them as looking like actual crystal formations, without any pretense of humanoid shape. Kinda like the Geonids from Master of Orion.
Shiri2004-11-18 16:55:24
Geonids? Is that like silicoids? Never heard of geonids. Maybe they changed the name in the British version or something. *scratch* Anyway, I imagined them like Rilmani in D&D 3E FF. Sorta like tall, bulky crystalline golemoid type things.
Bricriu2004-11-18 16:56:30
*titter* It's rather hard to explain, but I always figure they're the same as the 'achaean' version, personally. It really is up to you, though, I think, if you follow along with the Help file on them, and consider they may have bred with other species (someway or another.) So, you could likely have a very humanoid creature, that happens to be made from crystal, or, something else.

Geonids are from MOO, Silicoids are from MOO2 and MOO3, and there is little additional difference beyond that.

I picture us as sort of an easter island type thing. Sort of smooth, but still only vaguely humanoid. I went with the noisy, grinding, cracking thing whenever I move, and no expression except in the mouth. "Flesh-crystal" just seemed like -way- too much of a cop-out when we have a chance to do something genuinely interesting. A little humanoid in there wouldn't be terrible I guess, but I can't stand those those "He is a crystalline lucidian that is actually a human, but has better stats" morons.
As for the weeping crystal tears, it's cool, but I doubt it'll ever come up. No self respecting Lucidian would ever weep

Heh, well, the website description of them does mention they are humanoid.

So we're not like these weird blobs of glass rolling around. Not to say it isn't an appealing idea.
Alright, I think I got it now. Thanks for your help people! Now comes the part where I actually have to write up the desc...

Like the kx'krah? I was never quite positive what they looked like... though I imagine a lucidian wouldn't have very much expression. Imagine something made of polygons - crystal facets, in that sense. The lack of definition on their facial features would mean they don't smile/frown/laugh, contributing to their general lack of emotion.
That's how I see it, anyway. Feel free to interpret it any way you want! If nothing else, races should be able to be played in different ways. With Sidharta I chose to expand on the 'salamander' description of mugwumps, rather than the more froggy one.

Really? I downloaded MOO a while back, they were still called Silicoids then. Weird...

Right, there are Silicoids in MOO. In 1.2 and 1.3, at least.
Shiri2004-11-19 11:32:44
Ahhh, I bet that'll be it, version number. MoO was first released when I was maybe 6-8, I don't know exactly, so I downloaded it years later, and probably got the newer version. Hiriako must have the old version.
Auseklis2004-11-19 12:25:56
Like every race in Lusternia, lucidians become more humanoid the more mixed their blood is. A pure lucidian may be extremely crystalline, faceted etc, whilst one with very impure blood may just have marginally translucent skin and/or strange looking eyes.
Hiriako2004-11-19 16:09:15
Eh, I could be mistaken. Either way...
As to Lucidians, there is that, though I have to wonder how crystalline beings mate with humans... I personally play him as not -being- Lucidian, he's a Changeling and is slowly coming to that realization. The jolt of travelling through the Portal of Fate locked him into that form temporarily, now that he's had three years, he is starting to realize his reality.

Mmm, but if Lucidians are not able to show emotion due to their rigid frame, how do they move at all? If I can't smile because my face is made of glass or crystal how can I bend my arm without shattering the joint? There's got to be some sort of joint system in place or flesh-like crystal or, like the Kx'Krah my body should be somewhat modular (my body parts held together by magic with spaces between each "module" that allows for mobility).

Maybe something shaped similar to Nimrod from the XMen comics. He's not crystalline, but has a very edged, faceted kind of look to him.
As for geonids, y'all were right, they aren't from MOO, but from Everquest. Silicoids is what I was thinking of. The portrait/animation of them, at least in MOO3 wasn't humanoid at all. They essentially looked like vaguely conical crystal formations that could grow crystalline extensions as limbs, sort of like a pseudopod, that would drop off when they were done with it.
I suppose Lucidians, of all the races, have the most opportunity to be different in the physical description category. Everything from what I just described, to beings that seem to be made out of smooth glass, to clunky, faceted humanoids...lot of possibilities there.

I can't imagine mating with a pure-blooded Lucidian, in order to get an impure-blooded Lucidian, in that case...
I always think of stuff like that, I'm sorry. *shuts up*
