It would be fun to have the news back, from the histories. Say, submit an application like we do for guides, etc. Those people can keep up on current events, smaller than worldwide events. Only the most talented and mature should apply.

I know, it has problems. But it would be cool, and -easy- to code. Just another channel...

I like it!

And then you could achieve celebrity status, and all...There would be no ads, and if a player OR immortal were running an event, you could message a broadcaster and have them make a breaking news thing.

Anyhow, yeah.

Exactly.
Melanchthon2004-11-23 01:08:50
That actually sounds like a lot of fun. I would definitely go for that, so long as there was some way to keep it from becoming a glorified version of shouting nonesense.

I'd be interested in doing something like this; ideally it'd be a sort of pet/mount/entity-care program that's technically more entertainment than advice (addressing topics such as what to do if your dragon turtle keeps shedding claws). Since this sort of thing will obviously have a limited appeal, perhaps one way to address niche aetherwave programs would be have approved "hosts" sign up for blocks of time over their assigned channel(s)? I'd love to be involved in a sort of radio-drama group, as well...anyone who's listened to old episodes of "Suspense" or "The Shadow" knows what I'm discussing. Exactly how the Foley work would be handled is a conversation for later.

Edit: grammar accident, oops.

It would be great for RP. I mean, who ever -thinks- about turtle's claws? It opens up the world so much more. Not to mention, the whole "on the frontlines" aspect. Maybe interview Magnagorans as they invade Celest. Every day. tongue.gif

Sorry to bring back such an old topic.
I think that Akraasiel is doing a great thing. Instead of waiting around for it to happen, hes going ahead and doing it over shouts (which can be annoying... but all the same, very good).

Hrm, broadcasting over the Aether Networks (or, for the abbreviation-incline, Aethernet) would be really fun. Let's see, how would this work...

(Aether News Network): (someone) says, "And that's the latest from Magnagora. In recent news, the Divine have announced that there are more positions open to broadcasters on the Aethernet. Announce post 314 has more details."

31.4.1 Aethernet Broadcasting
The Aethernet, an abbreviated form of Aether News Network, is a commercial, long-range broadcasting corporation that gives the entire Basin (and surrounding known planes) the most up-to-the-minute news and views possible. For a yearly subscription fee of 100 gold (used to upkeep the vast aether relays and pay the announcers), you can tune in to the Aethernet from any plane simply by typing AETHERON.

Commands for listeners:
AETHER SUBSCRIBE - Subscribes you to the Aethernet, and lets you tune in.
AETHER ON - Start listening to the Aethernet.
AETHER OFF - Don't like the program? Stop listening to the Aethernet.
AETHER SCHEDULE - See what programs are scheduled.
AETHER RENEW - Renews your subscription. Must be done within one year of the last renewal or subscription, and will be good for another year.

If you are part of the Aethernet, you are either a broadcaster, or a managers. Broadcasters are the lifeblood of the Aethernet, providing the subscribers with the services they need. Managers set up the company, scheduling programs, managing payroll, and such. Every year, employees of the Network get paid a salary, depending on their rank within the Network, and such.

Commands for broadcasters:
AT (message) - Talk on the Aethernet
AETHERTALK (message) - Same as above.
AETHER STATUS - See what broadcasters are currently doing.
ABT/AETHERBROADCASTERTALK - Talk amongst the other broadcasters and managers.

Commands for managers (includes all the commands for broadcasters)
AETHER SCHEDULE NEW (day) (month) (year) FOR (broadcaster) NAMED (title) - Blocks off some time for a broadcaster to host a show.
AETHER PAYROLL - See who is employed, what their status is, and how much they make.
AETHER PROMOTE/DEMOTE - Promotes/demotes an Aethernet broadcaster. Affects priority for scheduling, and also affects pay. probably one of these a month, like GF/CFs?
AETHER ISSUE (broadcaster/manager) (reason) - Files a special issue with the company, to be evaluated by the Divine (or maybe board of directors? haven't quite figured that one out) regarding a particular employee, usually in regards to poor performance.

Those were lifted directly from the logs of the future! Fear the almighty sage Blastr... oh wait I made that up. Would be nice, though.

This is why i love Lusternia. Unlike other realms everyone has an idea, and peopel jump on it like dogs on raw meat. I hope that we can actually have this go through as for those of you who know me i really like to talk and i feel this would really benefit me as an RPier making me further my horizens and take in new points of view...who knows maybe i'll even begin to feel sorry for Celest...maybe

Silvanus is like a kid in a candy store with those smilies.

Anyway; my ultimate Aethernet Fantasy:

Finli O'tego broadcasts, "Good eeeevening, Luuusternia! We've got a great program planned for you tonight, folks! First off today, we've got- Bzzzghhhghhh. Excuse me, folks, we seem to be having some technical...Bzzzght.

You hear a loud raspy noise coming though the Aethernet and drowning out the announcer's voice. The noise continues shortly, then subsides as a clearer one rings out.

Someone broadcasts, "Greetings, Lusternia. I apologize that you will all miss Late Night with Finli O'tego tonight, but, afterall, we have enough stupid pet tricks going on in the Serenwilde to void the need for a program that devotes half it's time to them, wouldn't you all agree?"

(I act witty and intelligent for ten more minutes, promoting the DoC and putting down just about everyone else)

Everyone shouts, "omg u dumbdumb! Shut up b 4 I kill u u teeming cowrd!"

(Disciples of Crow) Visaeris says, "Here, Guido, have a trophy!

(I made two subtle referances to a popular book and a website in the above. Catch them and win a prize!)

Wow, well thought out Blastron! I like it. biggrin.gif

Either nobody got the relentles pi jokes I threw in there, or nobody cared. On a side note, I deliberately stopped bashing so that I can stay ranked 314th in Lusternia. whistling.gif

Remind me to get a life, please.
