I had an interesting discussion yesterday with someone regarding Glomdoring. Basically this individual, we'll call him Bob, said that there were a lot of people interested in Gaudiguch/Hallifax, but very few interested in a Glomdoring group.
I disagree. I think that there's a lot of people out there interested, they just don't express it for one reason or another.
Hence this poll, is there actually interest or is it merely a flight of fancy?
Note: This has nothing to do with the Crows or me or anyone currently pursuing Glomdoring. This is in the broad, general, "I'd like Glomdoring to be something" sense.

I would really prefer it. However, not yet. We've only just opened. If Cronus eventually goes evil, (which he might not do at all), I'll go to Glomdoring.
Shamarah2004-11-24 18:17:24
It'd be really neat to see, but I probably wouldn't make an alt to join, and thus wouldn't be in it unless Shamarah happens to become tainted... which I doubt will happen.

It's as good as an idea as the other two cities coming back

I want there to be a Glomdoring before a Gaudiguch/Hallifax.
I would be happy with a Glomdoring popping up around now, but I -really- wouldn't want Gaudiguch/Hallifax popping up for 6-9 RL months. Why? We're all just getting settled into our cities/guilds. If two more cities pop up.. we'll have a bunch of people leaving Magnagora and Celest... many would be torn between the two. It makes much more sense a while from now... so any city members who might be interest in those cities would have a chance to be a Magnagoran/Celest member for a decent amount of time... play their characters out there... and perhaps leave later in search of destiny. Having that occur now would throw everything off and honestly make a lot of people unhappy. I know this from personal conversations with many of the Gaudiguch potentials. Few want them -now-, many want them in the -future-.
The Glomdoring folk have shown profound interest from the beginning, most of which are cityless right now waiting for Glomdoring to form. We also need a balancing forest much more than we need two more cities right now. It would make more sense for the game balance, and it would make more customers happy.
Zolas has no interest in joining Glomdoring, this is just what I think about it all.

I'd rather there be a Gloriana commune even if its opposed to Serenwilde. I think it would be a great setting for a militant anti-Taint group. A corrupted purely evil forest setting is a concept that is little overdone. Now a restored Gloriana that maintained a balace/utlised both Fae and Undead would be very interesting. It could be opposed to Celest for being the originators of taint, opposed to Magnagora for spreading taint, and opposed to Serenwilde for failing to defend them from the taint.

I obviously want Hallifax, but I'm comfortable with waiting as long as necessary. I need to build Rexali's RP more before he tries to release the bonds of the taint.

So you basically want another Serenwilde...anyway, I do agree Glomdoring should be next on line, gives Serenwilde something to focus on, right now they aren't seeing much action.

No read carefully. I said I want it to be anti-Magangora as well.

The world already has a militant anti-taint group. Another one would be extraneous at this point. It's just that they, like a wave that stretched too far towards shore, have fallen, their momentum dissipated. But they're still there, huddled around their little puddle.
As far as Glomdoring is concerned, I am all for their revival before the introduction of any other city. They stand to fill an empty role, and at least in an OOC sense, that's good for everyone.

Serenwilde is anti-Magnagora. Sometimes. When it is convinient for them and gets them something, and there is little chance of backlash from anyone else. Of course, their 'anti-Magnagora' sentiment seems to be limited toward trying to influence villages (baby cities) away from the taint, at least until it is clear they won't win without bargins, and yelling "eww tainted!!!1" when they see a Magnagoran.
Kaelar2004-11-24 19:44:54
I'd really like to see a glomdoring commune happen before the others. I do know it's annoying from both an IC and OOC perspective that Serenwilde has the monopoly over alchemy, and with luck, Glomdoring would also have that ability if it came into play as a commune.
I've always been interested in the idea of a tainted/dark forest type thing, and Glomdoring is exactly that, though I've heard it is going to be a more neutral force than anything (Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).
So yeah, I voted for yes IC and OOC.

That would be up to the Divine and how they want it to be positioned.. Or up to whomever makes stuff happen.

Read Visaeris' initial post on the news and you'll read something to the effect of "we seek integration with the taint". As such, the Crows are planning on turning it into a tainted "commune" but not necessarily an evil one. But as we all know, this thread isn't concerned with our goals, but just the general idea of some kind of civilization establishing itself in Glomdoring.
I'm all for it both IC and OOC.
Veonira2004-11-24 20:13:06
I voted yes for both as well. I liked the idea of a Glomdoring commune to begin with, and I think it should be introduced before Gaudiguch/Hallifax. I feel like the Glomdoring makes more sense at the moment, and I'm with Zolas that those two cities popping up any time soon would be way too soon, because we'll either have a mass immigration to the new cities or else they'll be relatively dead for quite a while as people will be reluctant to make the move.
Devris2004-11-24 20:39:02
I voted no as per making the Glomdoring a commune kills the RP attempt of the other group who is attempting to return it to the Gloriana. The helpfile states that there is some reason the Gloriana river is still fresh, so I would like to see some good conflict with that. Plopping a commune in there basically kills any chance of that, and ruins a large RP opportunity for numerous people.
Unknown2004-11-24 20:46:32
I don't think a total revival of the Gloriana makes much sense. You can't see Magnagora and the Stone of Truth being restored to their former states, can you? If the Gloriana were rebuilt, it would only encourage the people who converted it to go for Magnagora next, and that just won't happen. Part of the fun here is that we'll never see the Holy Celestine Empire, or anything like it, in the predictable future, and restoring the Gloriana would imply that it could be done.
I vote yes both OOC and IC. OOC, it would be a great idea and would provide an excellent balance with the Seren, and IC my character's toying with the idea of joining them.

I see no way that we are runining RP. It was all about integration. It would be quite interesting to start a "commune" in the ebil phreaky place, and have a nice little river.
Doesn't that -open- RP oppurtunities?

Well, I think that a few new quests should be introduced. I heard that there's a way to cleanse the Sea of Despair of the Taint, so perhaps something similar can be done in Glomdoring? Perhaps there could be a fight between the Gloriana and the Glomdoring forces, with each side cleansing/tainting it. If one side clearly dominates the other for a long period of time (like a RL month?), then perhaps that could be how a commune there could turn out.
Unknown2004-11-24 20:50:32
Technically, restoring the Gloriana would undo a lot of people's RP, as well, particularly those that've been getting regularly squished by people lately. Just sayin'.
Mary doesn't care what goes on in the forest so long as the Ebonglom Wyrm is safe. She thinks that a proper organization would be good for taking care of the region and local wildlife (which doesn't strike her as unnatural at all; it's kind of hard to convey that sort of thing to a viscanti Geomancer naturalist), but is worried about the goals of some of the Crows. The VERY few she's met have struck her as anywhere from worthy advocates to...eh...unworthy advocates. So it can go either way.
As a player, I watch and wait with interest.
