A few weeks ago I was emoting carrying Caldorni around on my shoulders (she's a little faeling) but I found it hard to convey the idea of carrying her into a room. Everyone would see the follow message and then any emote I did. It would be nice if I could set up an emote that will be seen instead of the room entry, or at least will be appended to the end of it.

It's a good idea, with a fatal flaw: idiots using it idiotically. People might use it to "cheat" (e.g. emoting a huge crowd of mobs) or to emote some ridonculous crap, like a giant bouncing purple dragon with a party hat following them and breathing fire. Or, "Fool arrives from the north, shining with an intensely bright light that causes you to shut your eyes."

Yeah, but you can do all that stupid stuff anyway. *emote points a finger at Mox, causing a lightning bolt to streak down from the heavens and cleave him in twain*

The only problem I see that would be different than regular emotes, is that you could use it to set of triggers, or to try to give yourself an advantage in combat. To prevent this, it'd take a reasonable amount of balance and/or equilibrium.

reminds me of one of the first time i wa sin acaea. there was this snake novice that did this illusion that said i died. And since it would have been my first time dying, it said to drop my gold and inventory, and pray for salvation......i felt like a schmuck afterwords. got to hand it to that guy, though, it was a smart thing to do.

Bigdirk walks in from the north, followed by a swarm of evil p\\/\\/n@g3 b33z that buzz over and sting you! A prickly stinging overcomes your body, fading away into numbness.
It could be cool, if regulated. In Imperian a couple of artifacts were auctioned off that let you customize your entrance and exit messages. Uh... let's do that.

I fail to see how this is any different than what can be done with a regular emote. Why should we take away things that could be used for RP just because its POSSIBLE to use for stupid purposes like the example you give?

initiate littlehead of the ur'guard runs up an envelopes you with a massive ham sandwhich
regular emotes can be stupid, too, ya know? gotta take the good with the bad.

There will always be idiots who act idiotic with the resources.
The wizard is the idiot.

Well, the main problem I see with this is the everyone could use it. Sure, it would be a great tool, but if anyone can use it, it can be very, very misused. It's not exactly like emotes, because it wouldn't take balance. If it did, it would be a huge hassle to get around.
I think it would be just like descriptions. You'd have people telling you how you feel when they enter the room, people with entrance/exits that don't makes sense, etc. It's a good idea overall, though.

I think there should be a few requirements for having custom entrance messages.
Maybe the requirement would be, as it's been suggested, purchasing an artifact - but that's a little bland.
Maybe it could be another effect truefavours give, therefore your ability to do so lasts only as long as the favour.

I think it should take balance, because you'd only use it when entering an important place, and only when you were trying to rp something specific. You wouldn't use it when you were just walking around the highway. If you're looking to just run around and bash or pk, that wouldn't be a good time to use customized enterances.
Sylphas2004-12-01 21:20:39
If it took balance, I wouldn't see too much of a problem. If it was a free action, though, it'd be damned annoying. I already can't stand half the descriptions people have--even if they don't use it for blatant idiocy, bad emotes would get on my nerves.
Unknown2004-12-01 23:26:07
Balance? Maybe, but that might kill the purpose. I took it as a tool to make your personal appearance different, like descriptions, not just an emote. My problem with it was that just about anyone could do anything with it, so you'd see people running around with wacky entrance and exit lines.
It'd be a neat tool if there was a limit like balance.

I don't want people to be able to set enterance/exit messages that go off everytime they enter or exit a room. That'd be silly. I just want to be able to enter the room in a specific way if the situation calls for it.
Unknown2004-12-02 14:54:06
it should only be given after the player has been in the realms for 3 ooc weeks.
