I was wondering (since I can tell there are alot of old school 16 bit RPG gamers here) if any people here have used (or still do) Rpgmaker or any of its other incarnations. I just recently acquired Rpgmaker Xp (used 2k3 for a long time) and I've started to play around with it , just curious if anyone here has ever created anything cool with em.

Yeah, I played with the original playstation one. It kinda sucked... I would droll over a pc version though, it would be unimaginably easier.

My brother had one of the old PC versions, but I never got to see its full potential because I wasn't interested, and my brother at the time was about 10 and could barely turn a friggin' PC on, let alone program an RPG, with or without help. Didn't LOOK too good, but then I don't really know what its full potential is.

I used to play around with RPGMaker2k on my old computer (the one by Miguel something, I think.) I had some fun times just fiddling around with it. I don't have much patience, so I usually stopped before I got too far into making one, and started on a new idea until that lost its fun.

It's a shame I lost most of that with my old computer sad.gif

I used to play with RM2k... then RM2k3 when it came out...
Whats rmxp? Never heard of it, I would download it if my stupid compys internet didnt just die (on my brothers slow computer right now)...

I made some cool stuff, like a grapling hook that could be used like in zelda. Heh, and some custom battle systems (really bad ones, but whatever).

I ended up spending all my time creating a unique story and almost none actually working on my game...though I've started toying with the characters again. The version I used was RPGM2k for the PC, translated (sometimes oddly) from Japanese by Miguel. I had fun with it for a short while, though.

Meh, yet again I'm restricted because I use a Mac. I love my Mac, but I've always wanted an rpgmaker program, to play Ragnarok Online, to use Zmud, and right now I really want to play The Sims 2 but it's not going to be out for Mac for another 5 months or so.

That is the computer gods way of saying, "Climb to the highest room, of the highest tower. Kiss your Mac good bye, and let it fly out the highest window, and once you walk about down, visit your local computer vender and say 'I just threw my mac out the highest window, in the highest room, of the highest tower.' and they will help you get started in the PC world."

*sage nod*

Actually the one I was talking about was the PC one. I can't see any point in making an rpg on your Playstation since you can't make any of your own graphics really.

Here is a good site relating to the PC version of RpgMaker:
Gaming World

If you want to actually get a copy of the program, just google around a bit for either rpgmaker2k, rpgmaker2k3, or rpgmakerxp.. the game is technically japanese, but people have made english translations of em.. I won't give a link since you are technically supposed to pay for it i think. ninja.gif

Whats rmxp?

Rmxp is the newest version, allows for much better resolutions (so the characters don't look at pixelated) some new features like improved sound, and built in RUBY scripting language, so essentially it is less of a game maker and more of a quasi-programming language. You can still do anything you used to be able to do in the other ones, but since it has RUBY it is infinitely more customizable.

I used it a while back, but it was way too confusing.

And nice signature.

I've used RPG Maker 2000 some. I got bored with whatever game I was working on before I got anywhere, though.

It's all good fun.

Yeah, after asking abou XP I looked it up and checked it out. Dissapointing though: apparently they have anti-piracy stuff.
*inno* Of course, I would never steal anything, though.
*Searches for a free english version of XP*

Hee..after I read this thread I found a copy of XP - that's a really neat little program! Even without delving into the coding patterns, you're able to make a small (probably not really all that fun, but it makes you proud to have done it) game, though it can be quite time consuming..I was so happy when I figured out how to make a little event and got my stairs working. blush.gif

never used that, but I use to play around with a game called ,Unlimited adventures or something of the like. It was D$D based, and you build nice semi 3d dungeons and a large overhead map. It wasn't too bad.
Shiri2004-12-19 20:36:30
I always sucked with that dungeon master thingy on NWN, too. I'm awful at anything involving the slightest bit of creativity. glare.gif

I've tried out the XP and 2003 ones. I've seen other people's work, and you'd be surprised at the quality that some can produce.

Anyone played a blurred line? I loved it.

People make games on pirated RM2K that are much better than other rpgs released for $$.
