I've never been a fan of OOC clans within IRE games, and while the situation in Achaea makes it pretty much irrelevant to even consider disallowing them now, Lusternia has the opportunity to set a better precedant. How do you feel about the presence of clans within the world that serve no IC purpose?
Shiri2004-12-22 21:17:33
I don't like 'em. The main problem, though, is people mistelling off them, which happened a tonne in Achaea (but of course people got away with it there.) This doesn't need to happen again. Frankly, as long as I never hear about them, they don't bother me, though.
Silvanus2004-12-22 21:18:47
I've seen Akasha mistell over 10 times already. A serious discussion was going on in Iron Council, and Akasha mistells, "So, you are not the Hulk." I just.. I felt like hitting her.
Unknown2004-12-22 21:19:38
I think they should be gotten rid of. Not just because of mistells, but because they're just not useful. What can you possibly use an OOC clan for, in an IC roleplaying world? Can't you use AOL/MSN?
Unknown2004-12-22 21:29:14
Get rid of them. I play Lusternia and other muds to ROLEPLAY. If I want to chat ooc, I'll go to an MSN group or something.
Richter2004-12-22 21:32:53
We don't need them at all. They just provide a way for the typical teenage-moron-metagamer to stay ooc most of the time, and generally screw things up. Like, when Valek walks up to me, goes you're on my pk list, I can't kill you till you're off. Moronic. Give them a clan to act like that, and the times when they are actually ic gets to be less and less, till you have an Aetolia-like environment where rp is nearly nonexistant.
Hazar2004-12-22 21:34:36
Ban them. Ban them, burn them, banish them. Period. End of discussion.
Kaelar2004-12-22 21:42:47
Hazar puts it quite nicely. OOC clans need to go.
Heres hoping that the divine see the current opinion (83% for banning them as I post) and do something about it

Only difficult part is that this isn't an accurate representation of the playerbase. It -can- be said that this is an accurate representation of the dedicated playerbase, considering that the majority of players who have made any sort of name for themselves, with few exceptions, seem to posting here.
I agree though, down with the OOC clans. If you want to talk OOCly with people from the game...there's a forum for it below this one.

I wish I could change my vote, I clicked on the wrong one. Minus from the second one and add to the 3rd.
Unknown2004-12-22 21:57:21
You buy -OOC- clans with gold you earned -IC-. The gold is in your -inventory-, and if you spend it on something -outside- the game world, that's just... wrong. If people want to talk OOC, there's always AIM, MSN, et cetra. Just keep it out of the game.
Richter2004-12-22 22:00:36
Like me using my gold to buy a car.
Karrah2004-12-22 22:10:48
Agreed. Good analogy Richter.
Sylphas2004-12-22 22:33:22
Get rid of them. They serve absolutely no purpose in game. If you want to talk to people from Lusternia OOC, there's forums for that here, and plenty of other ways to do it outside of the game.
Kaervas2004-12-22 22:39:17
Having come from Aetolia where OOC clans were common I saw how detrimental it was to the RP in game, and I'd rather that Lusternia never ever turns into what Aetolia is like today. I say get rid of them.
Murphy2004-12-22 23:27:13
Y'all just jealous cause our not invited! heh nah only kidding.
Personally i dont mind it, for me its agreat way of venting on a higher level, for instance you couldn't say F**K ME TUEK IS A CHEAP PIECE OF @#$% AND AMARU IS WORSE THAT F#$%G C$%T, over any channel, and sometimes you just need to explode.
That being said i can see how its detrimental to RP for those can cannot make the distinction.
EDIT: Nothing offensive against amaru and tuek, they both bring a lot of conflict and fun into the game for me, i just picked them cause they are usually the most frustrating for me.

How does The Dark Carnival hurt you- It doesn't.
How does it help you- It doesn't.
How does it help those in it- It gives them a place to just hang around, blow off some steam, and joke with each other.
You lose nothing, they gain some more enjoyment in the game. I don't see the problem.

Overall, OOC clans are just gonna make the members more likely to go OOC. Doesn't matter a fig how much they make the distinction, they'll misschan, and they'll slowly start being IC less and less. The 'chat' channel was removed from Achaea for a reason. Having anyway to communicate OOCly, supported by code, is gonna be bad in the long run, no matter how ya put a spin on it. There's no reason it has to be IG. Use AIM, MSN, whatever. Give me one valid, meaningful reason, that isn't to do with putting in effort, why you have to use IG clans for OOC chat, rather than one of the easy to use services present.

Actually... Any IG mention, sight, word, etc, mischan, whatever, from an OOC clan, disturbs me and disrupts the game.
How does it help those in it? It helps them in exactly the same way a chat service like MSN would.
What do I lose? I lose the supposedly immersive experience that IRE games are, thanks to someone misschanning something stupid from an OOC clan.
To quote a prominant IRE gamer: "If I see something IG, it's IC. No amount of brackets, or lables, makes it ok to go OOC in the game" His reasoning? Keep the IC/OOC line as clear cut as you can. OOC clans blur the line, quite badly.
Shiri2004-12-23 00:14:04
The way I understood it, the chat channel was actually removed 'cause someone was complaining about an event on it and Sarapis got annoyed.
Could be wrong though.
