Well, I think I bugged this a few days, because I wasn't sure, but I just wanted to check with y'all in case it's a mistake, but - GNT and Planar communications don't go well together. Apart from the initial welcoming thing, I'm pretty sure I've never heard communications on the GNT channel make it over even one plane - having been sat in the Ethereal for several days, I've never heard a message from it, and apparently my communications don't get there either, even though I've broadcast. Is this a situational bug (e.g. just the Ether), a generalised failure with GNT, or is it intentional?

I've heard GNT from the water plane...

Maybe GNT was off at the time? I'm not sure if the welcoming message goes through gntoff or not, but it's a theory.

I thought of that, but I'm 99% sure it wasn't, because I could talk on it (no one could hear me though, even with broadcast), and a few guildmates I asked about it reported the same phenomenon. Besides which, people on the same plane could still hear/send GNT messages to/from me. The welcoming message doesn't get through it as far as I know, I was all chans off for a few days and I didn't hear any such messages.

I can hear those with Broadcast clearly on GNT while I'm as far as Astral, though of course I've only ever heard one novice reply that far out. I'm fairly certain my voice carries down to them on Prime, as well.

What the heck? That's pretty weird. Maybe it's just Moondancer GNT. 0_o
Silvanus2004-12-23 19:56:57
I've never once heard GNT while on another plane.
Unknown2004-12-23 19:59:09
Me neither.

I have.

Sometimes I can only hear segments of channels (everything might be silent for a few minutes, then someone pipes up, and I have no idea who or what they're talking about). I thought it was intentional (in the histories, the further away from Prime they travelled, the more garbled the aetherwave broadcasts became).

Same goes for me.
You're problem, Shiri, may be a bug. I may not have heard novices on GNT, but I know I've heard others while not on the prime.
Shiri2004-12-23 22:33:17
I thought it might be a bug, but I have no idea why it would work for some guilds and not others, or some people and not others. I just can't see how such a situation would have arisen - why would they program the code for GNT 9 different times, so that it had a chance of having a mistake once? Oh, and what you might be referring to is the fact that not all novices have the necessary communication skills. It's just that I can't even hear people like Brylle on GNT from the Ethereal, and she's got broadcast too. (Or at least distort, so enough to talk to the Ether.)

That's because some people have broadcast and some don't. The ones with broadcast are the ones that you can hear.
