hi. i don't know if this has been brought up before, or if the world already works this way, but what about this?
giving a guardian or a mage a bit of a boost when fighting on his native plane?
such as a Aquamancer, when on the Water Plane, do slightly more damage and resist it just a bit better..
the same would go for Celestines on Celestia, Geomancers on Earth, Nihilists in Nil, etc...
not too much of a boost to make them overpowered, but just enough.
what ya think?

the things you summon are cheapr.
Shiri2004-12-27 21:01:17
Staves and beasties are cheaper. (Although Wiccans don't get free faeries on the Ethereal.) And there's also things like...demons not working on Celestia, angels not working on Nil, that sort of thing. It might make the elemental and cosmic planes more interesting though. Since not a lot goes on there. Actually, it might make even LESS go on there, since the opposite side isn't willing to fight on disadvantageous ground.

It'd be nice to get free fae on Ethereal. I mean, they are just standing around not doing much, it shouldn't cost me power to say, "Hey, pooka, how about you follow me around for awhile? It'll be fun."

Not for Nihilists, at least. There's a -small- chance that it won't cost any power, but again, let me emphasize the word small.

Theres actually no chance
Previously, there was a bug which could summon it for 0 power, and it wasn't hard to accidentally stumble upon it.
As for the actual topic, I think Sabriel meant more of a small combat boost for fighting on your own plane, rather than the current system of spending less power on summoning.
I actually like this idea, and could see it making a lot of sense. I mean, you'd think that a geomancer might have a bit of a "home field advantage" fighting on the earth plane and you'd think a Nihilist would have an easier time drawing on the cosmic energies of Nil when he was actually -on- that plane?
As for putting that to game terms... maybe a small (5-10%) damage boost on the plane that a persons archetype is associated with?
Shiri2004-12-28 01:13:10
I guess a resistance boost would be better than a damage boost. What would also be nice is if those sucky currents/earthquakes didn't happen to them thar mages.

I woudl love for that to be so. LOVE for that to be so.

It would actually be a good idea, yes.
If I recall some Hallifax person from the histories (Don't shoot! I just don't remember the name!) said "We were fools to bring the Aeromancers to a plane that wasn't air." or something to that effect.
