I would like to see this skill replace bearhug, because bearhug iz teh suck. (Even though I can't use it any more. Grrr.) I'd also like to see this skill not have a level restriction. Ahem.
Hibernation! Makes sense, ja? It would be sleeping, except you wouldn't be able to wake up until you had full health and are fully rested, plus with a bit of bonus time tacked on. And you would have highly accelerated regen, or course. Kafe would have no effect, and only being attacked multiple times would wake you up early. For example...
Hiberate
You curl up on the ground and relax your body into a deep slumber.
1780h, 1891m, 1780e, 10p exp-
A sharp jolt of pain flashes through your body, but you shrug it off and continue snoozing.
1467h, 1891m, 1780e, 10p exp-
wake
You are far too deep in hibernation to will yourself awake.
1467h, 1891m, 1780e, 10p exp-
A sharp jolt of pain flashes through your body, but you shrug it off and continue snoozing.
1042h, 1891m, 1780e, 10p exp-
You are finally brought back to consiousness by a terrible jolt of pain.
You open your eyes and yawn mightily.
722h, 1891m, 1780e, 10p exp-
Pros:
Big regeneration boost.
Acheive full rest faster.
Cons:
Highly Vulnerable. You're nearly helpless.
Can't wake up unless you take a lot of damage or finish healing.

I'd love that. It would be really awesome in terms of RP/flavour/whatever, and not have the slightest effect on combat. (Unless some really mean Moondancer decided to get his pooka to convince you it was winter...)
Unknown2005-01-01 23:42:31
Awesome.

That is a great idea, and it seems like it would be easy to code... I actually have no idea if it would be easy or not, but its cool.
Shoshana2005-01-02 15:46:23
Erk, Shiri's right: Should be unforceable seeing as otherwise someone could just send you to sleep in the middle of battle and then do an instakill or whatever...
Shiri2005-01-02 15:55:11
Or even better, you have to concentrate uninterrupted on hibernating for a few seconds. Like maybe it takes 10 seconds of doing NOTHING after you put the hibernate command in for you to properly hibernate.

Why not just make it like sloth?
Or better yet.. make it a racial design that just happened normally in sleep? (Like the inability to wake up that Aslarans have plus add the regeneration?)
Probably wouldn't be as fun though, but isn't it the same thing? Kinda like a dreamcatcher in other IRE games. Could even add the ability to need MORE sleep, since you already need bigger portions of food. Same for Aslarans for that matter.

That thing where Vampires/Thralls could burrow into the ground as a form of sleep by draining the earth of it's resources was awesome for RP. But, there's no RP in Aetolia.

thats more useless than Bearhug.
I have lots of fun with bearhug.

Daganev: Heya Furloch, lemme give you a hug.
Furloch: *dies*

Hibernate lets me only RP with myself.
Nobody is going to see me hibernate, and it doesn't last long enough that you could say try to track down hibernating tae'dae.
If you want to regenerate faster and be more vunerable just watch TV while your sleeping. Time will go by fast and you won't notice people attacking you.
bearhug lets me roleplay with other people and even has a nice benefit of being able to kill rats when I don't want to be spammy.

That was hilarious.
And I agree with Daganev. It wouldn't be much of a hibernation if the benefit was that it worked quickly, and it wouldn't be a benefit if it took a long time, and just healed you.
I don't know as that there's much use for bearhug systematically anyway, but making a friend wince in pain because you "don't know your own strength," or for Daganev, finding Furloch and snapping his pieces with a more personal sort of attack, strikes me as a more useful roleplaying tool than a deep slumber in which you can't do anything, and from which you can't easily escape.
