Does anyone else have troubles writing in journals and or books in Lusternia when using zmud? I love that little pop up window you get when you do it in Java, but zmud just spits up some green numbered lines that annoy the poo out of me.
Daganev2005-01-03 08:05:19
java just gags the poo.

I love the cool popup window thing on JAVA. I used to hate the stupid line thing, when they added the window it rocked. What you do, Quidgyboo, is write out of the game in notepad or something, and stuff it all in one paragraph to a line.

It's not that hard if you read the help files on the editor.

You can either insert text at a particular line (using *line {#}) or just keep writing as Shiri said by typing in paragraphs. You can delete a line using *deleteline {#}, and you *echo to see what you've typed so far. That's really all you need to know, apart from *save. All the other stuff is just extraneous shizzle.

It really annoys me when you get posts with doubled up paragraphs and things, the editor is really not that hard to use. dry.gif

To make my editing of posts and clanhelps easier, I use Notepad (or any simple text editor with no complex formatting). Put all your paragraphs on single lines, to avoid unwanted line breaks. Use the zMUD "Send file to MUD" option on the Action menu and "upload" your text file to the IRE text editor. I use a time delay of 400-600 milliseconds between lines just to give the editor a chance to catch up when it lags a bit.

The side benefit of editing posts, journal entries, and help files offline is that you have a backup copy when something breaks it or when you just need to edit it.

All that green line crap is the result of the text-editing code of Rapture, I guess. It echos your results every time you make an entry.
Maedhros2005-01-04 01:18:04
I hate it. No semi-colons show up (they are instead treated as a line break), and I use semi-colons in writing a LOT.
Unknown2005-01-04 02:26:33
I love my semi-colons too, damnit. And yeah I do know ho to use the editor in game, I just much prefer the JAVA version. Maybe I'll just log into JAVA to make my entries.

To use semicolons, either insert a tilde (~) before it (also works for any other special characters like the arrow brackets) or uncheck the option to use special characters.

Or do what I did and just switch the special character for new command to something different. | is what I use normally. You just have to remember to change it back when you import scripts, because using Find/Replace to switch semicolons can sometimes screw things up.

I always click on the computer monitor icon before I make posts, that way I don't accidently activate some sort of alias also.

If you use | for line breaks what do you use for OR?
Ialie2005-01-04 10:14:47
I find in zmud if helps if you turn your alias's and triggers off before you do any writing.

Good question. I'm not sure, since I don't think OR is an alternate syntax, but nothing ever broke. *shrug*

Turning off parsing is definitely a good idea when posting or editing journal/helps.

You can use "or" in a conditional statement. The | is also used for building string lists, however, so make sure you don't permanently make this change without being prepared for the consequences.

The paragraph=one line is bad news if you have a LONG paragraph. It just cuts you off tongue.gif I always just shorten the size of each line to avoid funky carriage returns OR just log onto java to write. That IS an option. Just thought I'd warn you of that
Sekreh2005-01-08 18:06:26
Aye, you can write in notepad or even word and copy paste it into the java window. Its faster if you don't mind being on java to write things
