hunting on Astral

I have wondered about that for some time now. Do you actually make more exp if you node hunt alone on Astral or with someone else together?

You have to consider, if you're alone on a sphere and link once, one mob will appear, if there are two, two mobs will come so if you're hunting in a group or alone the mob count per person should be the same..

so i'm basicall just wondering if the exp is the same as well. anyone know?

In theory, it's the same, as long as you are just sharing the sphere and not grouped with them. Grouped, it took me slightly more than double the amount of kills to get the same experience I would have alone.

That said, one of the best ways to hunt is with three or more people of differing ability hunting the same sphere. The weaker ones will take what they can, while the stronger clean up the rest. Since so many creatures are generated with a few links, it works out to be optimal hunting if you can keep up.

The majority of times, though, Astral is just one person linking one node.

Each sphere also behaves in its own way, based on how the creatures move and the terrain. Some are more suited to multiple people than others.

For things like Virgo, going in a team can be lethal, because the stupid blackout virgins appear right where you are when you're linking the node. *grumble cone grumble*

I get the impression from somewhere, I think it was an announce post, that fighting in a team actually increases the experience gained -overall- (not individually.)

Well, assuming an even split, an overall increase in experience would amount to an individual increase as well. Kind of like splitting 11 fae down the middle as opposed to 10 fae.

If the split is uneven but weighted, it would be the same...hmm...the split would have to be uneven, but weighted for just one person after the actual split for there to be an overall but not singular increase. huh.gif

I'll just go back to my little node...so cuddly and sparkly shiney. cloud9.gif

Er...by individual increase, I meant that when you kill one thing, it's still divided so you get less than you would if you killed it on your own, but the two of you get more put together than you would have if you killed one each on your own.

Ahh, I see what your meant. I haven't done an exact count, but it feels like it's the same or less. Maybe we were just going at a slower pace though, so we didn't actual kill twice as many creatures in the same amount of time. sad.gif

The amount of damage you do to a creature, affects how much experience you receive from it while in a group. Something like that, I remember in another realm, if you had a novice following, and they never attacked anything, they would gain very little experience. However, if they struck even once, the amount they gained would be much higher.
Shiri2005-01-04 00:58:55
There's also the fact that newbies actually get less experience for anythings that isn't rats/weevils/newbiedudes.

That would explain why I sucked so much at getting exp when I only healed though. Dangit.
Kharvik2005-01-04 03:22:26
Dont forget though, the more people you have on your team the faster things are liable to move and the more exp you'll get.
Gwynn2005-01-16 09:26:21
From experience, fighting in a group is worth slightly less than an even split. For example, 2 people in a group ends up being about a 40-40 split

Ha, I never died to a virgin when I was linking, and I was level seven. Just set a trigger to fly when the virgin enters the room.
Shiri2005-01-17 18:31:48
Yeah, because flying away at the SIGHT of an enemy is really hunting. tongue.gif

Group hunting depends on the leader and what level everyone is. Me and Aesyra killed 6 eagles and I didn't get a single exp.
Richter2005-01-17 20:26:09
You didn't get a single exp? Horrible! Me and them is gonna go up and learn them a thing or two.

For me, it's not really a matter of exp, it is a matter of "do I really think I can take them alone?" The answer is usually no...
Ixion2005-01-18 08:27:21
Once you can bash astral alone (for me it was at level 40 about), it's the best way to go. Bashing in groups is worthless, because it takes mere seconds more to find AND kill something alone than with two or more. Val and I used to bash goats a lot before node spawns were fixed, where we link and each take half the spawns. Having two link and each take half is viable and as effective as solo, but coordination and speed is paramount in doing so.

Also, for those of us who bash astral for long periods of time, try spawning a ton and take them on all at once. Taking on 10 bulls at the same time for example certainly breaks up the bashing repetitiveness (and no i didnt die tongue.gif).

Once you get enough crit to take on a steady flow of denizens, constant linking to an active node is by far the best xp around.
Shiri2005-01-18 12:46:13
Level 40, um, nooo. Not for most of us. Maybe Viscanti are just better than I thought. blink.gif
Unknown2005-01-19 01:40:44
for Viscanti, Dracnari, Igasho, Tae'dae. They can bash easily on Astral. races like Merian and so on have a more diffcult time.
Drago2005-01-19 01:49:28
Nah, Level 40 on Astral is because of putrefaction and, for me, flying. It basically boils down to hit, sip, fly, sip, puella, sip, land, hit, sip, fly, sip, puella at that level
Unknown2005-01-19 17:18:47
So level 55 or 60 is a good estimate on when Elfen can do well hunting solo on Astral? And can someone please explain to me the nodes on Astral. I have the skill to link to wild nodes, but it gives you experience?!!? Or did I read it wrong... I know it gives power.

I guess its possible that by best experience anywhere, you meant the virgins and goats that come when you link. Iunno. Guess a good rogue character needs to be able to link up there.

Linking doesn't give you experience - it gives you power, and summons one creature for every dude on the Astrosphere. THEN you kill said summoned creatures and get experience that way.
