The Forest Communes

Ok basically is this:

A lot of the events and RP at the moment in reality is pushing for a raising of a Tainted Commune in Glomdoring.

What I want to know is, is this "Event" waivable in either directions? I mean sure, it'd probably balance the game more should there be a Tainted Commune but would elements allow a return of Gloriana? I mean since the Gloriana River stays pure regardless, it seems to me that there is an essence of non-taintness in the Glomdoring still.

I'm thinking, perhaps making it an exciting event. Like in the last event when Magnagora supported the raising of Crow. In a way, there could be some rites or stuff to do to reform Crow to Raven.

To stop the repetition of the same commune copied over again and again, there could be new skills and new believes of the communes.

So re: new skills --> over to you Shiri deal.gif

This debate's been had before, but it's a LOT harder than you make it sound to force communes to have different beliefs. It'd be like making a second tainted city and say it was different from Magnagora because, um, it doesn't like demons. People just wouldn't stick to it. I mean, it's going to be hard enough to keep Hallifax a cool scientific, sort of...semidetached, cool (in the "disaffected" kind of way, that is) city, let alone trying to convince Gloriana folks that they're different from Serenwilde...without any really obvious reasoning.

It wouldn't really work, in my opinion, and judging by the poll we had a while ago (look in the general forum) about 3 times as many people want Glomdoring as want Gloriana, eh.

...I think I'll do sun totems anyway though. whistling.gif

And the general consensus among that large majority is;

"We want a dark forest, and we don't want Magnagora-in-the-woods. We'd be fine with Gloriana, except that without the Taint many will simply ignore the 'dark' intended theme."

If the Glorina comes i'll suicide without a second thought. It would add abolutely nothing to the game.
Shiri2005-01-16 00:22:29
It would...um...give Magnagora another stomping ground? wacko.gif

It'd be easy to make Gloriana dark, and keep it completely with different beliefs. Simply remove it as a choice from the novice intro, and have people seek out to join. Then, at least they'd have some semblance of a clue (and it'd be easy to bar those who don't fit with the roleplay). There are 3 forest councils in Imperian. That being Khandava, Celidon, and Ithaqua. Ithaqua maintains its beliefs, and is very strict, it shows that a dark forest concept is doable, it just matters that you have the right person in control.

I dislike the idea of having a commune/city organisation that was barred from the novice intro thing...

In Aetolia, Bloodloch was barred from the Novice Introduction for a long time, until just recently. I think it would be best that way, perhaps make Gloriana for advanced players?
Shiri2005-01-16 01:03:25
Wow, really? Hrm. Well, if it's worked before, guess my instinct's wrong then. happy.gif
Silvanus2005-01-16 01:08:30
It didn't work, you can take a look at Aetolia and see (the whole war system) that Enorian(Shallam)'s conscription (how much new armies it could recruit every month) is Spinesreach, Ashtan, Duiran and Bloodloch's conscription combined, and Enorian is unopposed in Aetolia. So, it did not work in the past.

I won't comment on Gloriana/Glomdoring (although I know which I'd prefer), but I would point out that there would be little point in us programming six classes just so that a few people could choose which three they wanted in an event, and make the other three wasted time and effort.

They changed it? Part of the mystery of Bloodloch was you could not select it, and had to be a vampire or infernal to get in.

Oh yeah, and the bit about guards attacking anyone that wasn't from Bloodloch made it all spooky too.

I like the idea of Glomdoring being non-selectable in the intro.

But that's not necessary.
You don't need all three classes/guilds available (or even any..) during an event.

An event could run, and in the end it could form either Gloriana or Glomdoring Commune, with only one or two individuals selected to 'join' (just like the first GMs or such..)

and then slowly (maybe over a month real life time) add in the first class, then the next.

Though it would need dedication from players not to run off without new skills and powers, it would open up such an avenue.
Shiri2005-01-16 16:59:04
I'd hope it wouldn't be an IC event. If it were, I'd have to take the side of Gloriana, and while Nejii's absolutely fine with that, I'm not.
Gwylifar2005-01-17 00:17:06
Or set the story up so that whichever way the event goes, the forest will "go away" (a la Ackleberry) for a period of time afterwards, and then emerge changed whichever way the event went, and use that time to develop the classes. Just build that "away time" into the event.
