okay, so I log onto the web page for the only other Mud I play, Shadows of Isildur, and I see an announcement that Traithe, who is awesome beyond belief, is stepping down, because he's been given the Head Designer/Coder role on IRE's new Fiest-based MUD thingo (Though he said it was an MMORPG, so maybe its not a mud).
I suppose its not all bad news, because I just KNOW it will be awesome if Traithe is working on it. I question though that his style is perhaps compatible with traditional IRE administration policy, as his motto tends to be "If you don't like this, you're wrong." which is good, because he has good taste.
On the plus side, he's been working on an RPI for the past 3 years, so it ought to be hugely focused on roleplay (Though I think he'll HAVE to include some "Twink factor" as an RPI wouldn't work commercially)

Drago2005-01-17 06:15:01
Ohh, and open a nasty portal to the Demon Planes in Rillanon!!
Edit: Planes, not Plains!!

I've just started playing Shadows of Isildur, and it is the closest to perfect MUD I have ever played (yes, far better than any current IRE MUD ). I'll be sad to see him leave SoI, but hopefully he will add something special into a new IRE MUD. Also, I've just finished Betrayal at Krondor - and that's got to be the best fantasy book I've read (besides Tolkien's works, obviously.. and a few personal preferences).

NOTHING is better than IRE MUDs. *eye Zaltan*
Unknown2005-01-17 09:37:43
My opinion must differ from yours then, Shiri. Maybe it will change with this new Midkemia MUD... Who knows?

I thought I had read R.E.F mention on another website when the news of IRE getting the gig first game out, that the story behind the game would be set about 500-800 years after Magician.. I mean, Pug's old already, but will he live to be that old.. Well.. I guess that's a stupid question since.. Damn, what's his name? The guy who was going to become God of Magic before Pug stopped that.. Anyway, he was.. very old.
I've been waiting for this game to get started since the news was announced. Can't wait!

What's the Magician like? I've only read Betrayal at Krondor.
Jalain2005-01-17 10:05:06
unputdownable?
But make sure you get Apprentice AND Master.. You don't want to finish Apprentice and find out you don't have Master to read (Magician is split into two books)

Oh, okay. Thanks.

Actually, Shadows of Isildur does indeed have perfect roleplay. There are few members, but it really is great when you want to get away from the lack of roleplay that IRE muds SOMETIMES display. Alcor from Aetolia got me interested in it.
I had a human from Osgiliath who tried to join the army, but it took way too long, so I went exploring, and was captured by orcs. They then tortured me, and even when I promised to be their slave if they spared me, they keeled me.

Heh, I have the same problem as you - I can't join the army . Here is a thread which is about joining the army in the "New Players" section on the SoI forums:
QUOTE
If you are thinking of joining the Military and have not submitted your character yet, please get in contact with the leader of the Garrison, by leaving a message on the board asking them to contact you. This way we may be able to get you set up in the garrison immediately, or we may be able to tell you that they are currently full up. It's always good to talk before committing your character though.
And I've noticed a lot of people have posted on not knowing how to join the army, or trying to and they can't . Meh, I'll just try asking more people IC.

Depends where you get it from. In Australia it's a single book (still). In the US it's two books and I'm not sure about elsewhere.
Shiri2005-01-17 23:50:29
'tis one book over in the UK.
Jalain2005-01-18 09:12:30
Yeah, I got it in one book over here, and when I told my friend from the US who recommended it to me, he got upset cause he had to get two different books and had to wait over the weekend to get the second one. Aww well...
Hmm.. That slavery stuff sounds like fun..
