Racial Disadvantages

What if there were specific attacks that could only be done on certain races?

Here are two examples of what I mean.

Like on faelings

PULL WINGS

Remembering with glee on how you pulled off the wings of butterflies when you were a young sadistic bastard you happily grab by their wings and rip them off, crumpling them into a bloody mess.

Target has to be prone, with more than half health gone.

The poor faeling will loose the ability to fly until she dies.

Lucidians

HIGH PITCH

Throwing back your head, you suddenly scream in an extremely high pitch. There is a sound of calm resonance in the air just before 's body bursts into multiple shards that hits everyone in the room.

(Lucidian has to be dead.. and this keeps him or her from being ressurected.)

Freaky.
Shiri2005-01-18 13:01:22
That would actually be pretty cool. Freaky though, yeah.

Ialie,

I used to cook ants with my magnifying glass, can I do anything with that? Like maybe on a Dracnari while they're basking on a beach.

Ialie2005-01-19 06:08:57
Dracnari? Lizard people right?

PULL TAIL

Grinning evilly you gleefully pull off the tail of knowing full well the annoyance of having to grow it back.

Dracnari's get slowed balance when their tails are removed. Takes a lusternian day to grow back and the dracnari has to be prone and at half health.

I like the idea in theory, but these are very powerful abilities. (Stripping flight/semi-permanent slow balance/etc). If this were to be implemented, I would hope they were racial abilities and rather expensive to use. For example, for 10 power an orclach can rip the wings off those irritating little faelings, who must do a quest to restore them.

This way, at least it would be restricted to particular races that have animosity amongst one another, rather than allowing any character to obtain such potent abilities without any effort.
Aebrin2005-01-19 13:11:00
Yeah, let races target specific races. Races with animosity to each other.

Like the Orclach to the Faeling idea.

However one of my own:

CLAP SOIL ON

Picking up soil from the ground you quickly mushes it against the gills of the Merian. The merian can no longer survive on water without the skill or the enchantments.

Loboshigaru

SHRILL WHISTLE

Knowing full well how sensitive canine hearing is, you whistle in a seemingly soundless high pitched tone that sends scurrying out of the area, whining loudly in protest.

Hehe

FRY Care for some fish&chips?
THROW RAT AT Target is unable to attack anything but the rat until they kill it or manage to snap it into their packs.
PAINT PINK With painting a viscanti in pink, his charisma is decreases due to him looking ridiculous.

See? There're non sadistic options :-P

Well, I WOULD have agreed, but with the whole...below half health and prone thing, removing flying ability is really nothing. So they're not THAT bad.

I only really liked the pull tail and wing thing and shattering Lucidians though. Others are weird and/or lame. tongue.gif

Pulling the tail off a dracnari would just be...stupid. It's a limb. It's like pulling the arm off a human.
Shiri2005-01-19 17:32:24
Not so much, Iggy. Although lots of lizards use their tails for balance (that's why they have them at all), many are detachable and can regrow, to prevent someone trapping them by grabbing hold of it. So it actually has biological precedence. wink.gif

For some reason I dont think you could cook a Dracnari to death.. them "taking to lava like a merian to water" and all.

But not a giant man-sized lizard, especially when dracnari use it for so much. By pulling it off, you'd be tearing through sinew, flesh, bone, veins and all that jazz.
Shiri2005-01-23 12:45:33
Well you can do it for smaller lizards - I assume that's what the half-life thing's for, eh?...what do you mean, they use it for so much? As I say, small lizards use it for balance anyway.
Unknown2005-01-23 12:51:17
Dracnari, in an RP sense, not game mechanics, can use it to knock people over and stuff. Also, it's just TOO big for it to be like a small lizard's tail. With small lizards, there's probably no bones, or very few, or whatever. Enough so that it can be ripped off if needs be. But with a dracnari, you'd have to snap/dislocate a fair few bones/a giant bone to remove it. As well as all the arteries and veins that would need to be present in the tail to give it enough of a blood supply to work, as well as all the nerves needed in a tail to allow dracnaris to feel it. If you add all that together, then you WOULD need to rip through flesh, sinew, bone, blood vessels, and nerves.

Not quite on topic, but I think it would be wonderful if Faelings could have a new racial disadvantage whereby they are slowly drained of willpower/endurance while standing in urban/tainted environments.

It would make sense, because they are part-nature spirit, so the complete and utter lack of any bond to the natural in these sort of surrounds would cause them distress. It would also help to reinforce the whole anti-city thing. Mind you, I'm not suggesting a large drain, just a slow one, so that only if you're sitting in a city or tainted region for close to a day you will be totally drained.

We already have low health anyway... and it would really really really really make bashing hard.

No, not health, just willpower/endurance. If you hunt for a quarter of a day, you'd be fine unless your skills really drew heavily on the two statistics. Its only rather prolonged periods that would be a problem.

Just a thought, which I thought would reinforce the role of the race.

The faelings would need a few positives in return for that Elryn, since they have so many weaknesses as it is. 8 constitution? Comeon, seriously.
