I've noticed lately that summoning people, either through planar or demesne, into a statue set up on the road has been becoming more and more popular. Some people like Aris or Ethelon have been spending hours a day trying this on everyone they can from the opposing side. At one point we barged in with a very large group, broke the statue, set up our own and killed a bunch of people. The next day they had a statue on the road again.
Point is, I fear that all combat on the prime plane is going to degenerate into this sort of thing. I really don't feel it should be possible to place statues on the highway, or there should be some way (in conjunction with the via highway skill?) to destroy them from range. Otherwise the quality of fighting on prime is going to go down by a lot I fear.

Like you said, you came in with a very large group.
Lather, rinse, repeat.
Also, I recall Silvanus clinging desperately to that statue of Yukari you put up after I camped outside the gates.
Edit-You don't want to be summoned, keep a shield up, or stay where I can't summon you.

I did such for a couple hours Jello, not all day and for days in a row. The statue was placed against Ravin and his group who would camp outside the gates and kill anyone from Celest who came out, so I taught them a lesson. Blame your own people for their tactics not us for tricking them and letting the morons come and try to kill us only to find a statue. I'll say atleast it sure ended that stupid spree of killing the citizens of Celest. Also, members of Magnagora have been using statues for a very long time, trust me, I've ran into them repeatedly trying to chase enemies down
Nementh2005-01-18 06:19:29
Simple fact is that statues are a strategy to be used... despite the fact that someone may think it keep or 'lame,' it is something they are allowed to use.
What I am seeing is whining about Aris depending on statues to win, like it was soon, take away his crutch and he has to rebuild it... and would it be any different then him pulling you into his demesne with a moonhart totem in it?

I recall a Goemancer, forgot the name, but he killed people by setting a statue and pulling people into his demesne....even I died to the trick (damn pipes and their decay) but I didn';t bitch about it. It is a part of strategy, that's all.
Unknown2005-01-18 06:41:09
Just because it is a strategy doesn't mean it's ok.
All right, so Ethelon isn't doing it all day, but Aris' total time at the statue outside Celest must be over 24 hours by now, and he tries to summon literally everyone. If Magnagora is forced to do the same thing then I suspect some people will change their tunes. It's lame and the game would be better off without it.

Another part of the problem is that Aris is doing this with the hartstone demesne that moves you in and out of the trees, so once you're in it the statue continous hitting you repeatedly as he does.
EDIT: And another part is that he's doing it right outside of a city, so when a group comes he moves one room to safety. The nature of totems is that they only go in forest I thought, and since all of Serenwilde is forest, Aris would have to get someone with stag to expend their bonding on a totem in a place that is far away from the safety of guards and the like.

Quit whining.
Edit: No need for such a personal attack/request

Well, that wasn't nice..
ravin2005-01-18 10:13:30
the best lesson with that is look before you leap I believe. i ran into statues twice because of me not seeing them, which is totally my fault. i think it was a good tactic if you want to camp. However with all the summoning perhaps planar summon should take power.
Unknown2005-01-18 12:54:18
If you want to avoid the trees problems, use a levitating defense. At least your legs won't get broken. If the statue is hitting you every time you fall out of the trees, I might classify that as a problem.

Um, noooo. I don't think I've ever been involuntarily summoned when I was looking at the screen and not lagging. You have to LET yourself be summoned, you really do. It's BAD.

It can happen if you're doing something that takes a long recovery time though. Or if you're getting spammed and dont' have it highlighted.
Shiri2005-01-18 17:08:59
No recovery thing is that long. Except maybe a sextuple hexpush.
Iridiel2005-01-18 17:17:22
I' know of several magnagorans whose way to pass time is trying to summon anybody on help celest, help anycelestguild or just anybody from celest.
And it's really annoying, even if they cannot get you, just because you have to stop whatever you were doing to move/shield.

Devris2005-01-18 20:22:45
It ain't just people from Mag doing that, there are an equal number running down the WHO list for us as well.

Think harvesting in the sea without waterwalking.
*harvest*
*summons come just before you get back balance* (1 second)
*hit the key to harvest again* (when you keep hitting one macro key thousands and thousands of times, it kinda gets automatic)
*wait 4 seconds*
*start swimming off*
*wait another 1 - 2 seconds*
And that's assuming I have my eyes open at that time.

You'd actually still get out in that example.
Unknown2005-01-19 01:47:12
To go all the way back to history. It was Magnagora who started this little summon game. For about three years they were killing and slaughtering half of the citzens of celest. Celestians never intended to summon mags like they done to us but we decided to play dirty.
Unknown2005-01-19 02:31:41
Yeah, I guess I should have assumed that this would have been going on before I started playing since it doesn't exactly take a rocket scientist. Still, if you could destroy statues at range or they preventing summoning into them etc. things would be better.
