As I promised in my Neopets thread post, I am making a new thread, to enlighten all you poor poor neopets addicts... as well as those who simply dont know what a video game is!

-choppy black and white film with crackly 50's narrator voice begins playing-

Lesson 1:"Video Games"
In order to have the full game experience, you must know what a "video game" is. Lets start off with the beginning of video games. Back in the early 80's, a company called Atari came out with the first few video game consuls. These are commonly referred to as "arcade games". They are generally large, bulky, and very entertaining. Personally, I am a fan of the old classic Raiden Series. Atari came out with a few more consuls, until, one day, the "home" consul was invented. This was a small, portable version of the arcade games, that you could take home and play. While they didnt have bump mapping, animated sequences, lip syncing, or advanced renders, they still managed to bring joy and entertainment to the hearts of many. Several years later, while the video game craze was just in its infant stages, a company called Nintendo arose from the mist.
Nintendo revolutionized gaming in more ways than one. First off, they produced games of incredible quality (for back then), as well as introduce the first "3D" system... the Nintendo 64, commonly known as the N64. The N64 used a technology called 3D, which used thousands upon thousands of polygons to create a more lifelike environment for the player. This was much different from the current 2D technology, which looked a lot like a regular stick figure on a piece of paper.

Lesson 2: "Evolution of Video Games"
This brings us to our next lesson boys and girls. The evolution of video games exploded as the Nintendo 64 gained popularity. Young entrepenuers saw the potential fortune that lay in this new technology, and companies such as Bungie, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft began sprouting up everywhere throughout the early to mid 90's. With all the competition to be the best, latest, and coolest, many new ideas were put into practice. This spawned the video game revolution. Soon, other companies that had already been established, namely Sony, began to buy into this video game monopoly that Atari had attained. Lo and behold, Sony made the Playstation, which was released in the mid 90's. This was a smash hit with many gamers, as it utilized this 3D technology, and produced some very high quality games. Yet of course, there was a sequal to this legendary game god. It was called Play Station 2, or PS2... creative, huh? This was released in '97 or '98 I do believe, at which time Halo was first being developed by Bungie for PC. At this time, Sony's PS2 had dominated the market, with only a limited number of Nintendo 64 fans. On a side not, the Nintendo handheld 'Gameboy' was a 100% monopoly on handheld gamers. To Sony's displeasure though, a new, even greater consul was about to be released just after the new millenium.

Lesson 3: "A New Gaming Era"
Why certainly, games had been of decent graphic quality, and brought entertainment standards to new highs, but a new game consul god was rising. This gods name is Xbox. Developed by Microsoft and released in 2001, the Xbox took graphics and sound quality and pushed it to new extremes; far beyond anything PS2 had ever done. Utilizing a specially developed NVidia graphics card, Xbox was incredible. Not to mention that instead of the traditional memory cards for storing information, the Xbox had a built in hard drive with over 50K blocks of memory. Your standard PS2 memory card had perhaps 30 or 50. So not only did this allow you to save a riddiculous amount of information to the Xbox, but you could also save music to it, and play DVD's. There was one major problem with the Xbox. It didn't have any decent games! But PS2 had many, mainly because it had been out longer, and had more time to acclimatize to the market, but the Xbox was newly born. Alas, there was hope! For a new game, one that would dominate the market, one that would be crowned king of games (until its sequal that is), one game, to rule them all.

Lesson 4: "--Halo--"
Developed by Bungie, originally intended for PC, Halo was released for the Xbox in early 2002 (might have been christmas 2001, I got it right when it came out... cant quite remember). Halo was a first person shooter, which there not a whole lot of, although there were some. For a year or two, Halo had been the big story all over gamer magazines. This was supposed to be one of the best games ever (and still is, except for maybe its sequal), which gave Xbox a crucial advantage over PS2, seeing as Halo was ONLY for Xbox (until they made it for PC, but still, you cant get it for PS2). During the E3 (nerd convention) 2000, Halo was previewed. Gamers liked what they saw. Unfortunately, that is not what they got, because over the next 2 years, Bungie threw out most everything they had and redid the whole game. After a long wait, more mouth watering previews, and MANY rumours, Halo was finally released. It was a hit, a BIG hit. This game had a record high sales in the first weekend, and still continued to sell. Developers at Bungie used the latest tech gear to develop Halo, thinking that it would push Xbox to the limits. Unbeknownst to them, it could be pushed further.

Lesson 5 (Final Lesson): "--Halo 2--"
After seeing what Halo could do, gamers wanted more... especially after watching the end animation 2 inches away from the screen... and that is what they would get. On November 9th, 2004, Halo 2 was officially released. Many students skipped school, employees were late to work, or didnt show up at all, simply to get their hands on and play Halo 2. Using the even greater technologies developed in the short 3 years between Halo and Halo 2, this game had bump-mapping, lip syncing, advanced rendering, and some of the best animation sequence you have ever seen. Halo 2 was OFFICIALLY the most anticipated game EVER! And it was well worth the wait, for this game is beautiful (possibly sexier than Lady Lisaera , if I dare say). Bungie spent a riddiculous amount of time perfecting Halo 2, making it more wonderful than anyone could imagine. One of the most interesting things about this is, that every preview they showed the world, was changed in some way shape or form. This only adds to its sexiness.

So, kids, in conclusion, I recommend 100% trying out Xbox, Halo, Halo 2, and the many other great games... for all you RPGers out there, try Fable. This is the best way ever to get you away from Neopets, or even Lusternia if needed (I love you Lusternia!). Trust me, I know from personal experience.

While I am at it, I might as well tell you the meaning of life... the meaning of life is ---interruptedness---

Avasyu is the creator God of Imperian, in case you didn't know.

Oh, and check my Sig.

I still prefer PS2 over XBox, just for my RPGs. Fable and Morrowind are alright, but didn't live up to the hype for me.
Daganev2005-01-20 06:14:56
UGGG... I can't believe you started with Atari... Pong anyone? Commador64 anyone? Sheesh, go watch G4TECHTV and learn some gaming history!
Murphy2005-01-20 06:17:32
Long live pong!!!!!
Unknown2005-01-20 06:31:27
I learned gaming (and typing) from Commodore 64. Tapper, Boulderdash, Might and Magic. Weee.
Daganev2005-01-20 06:38:01
I don't know how to explain this, so I'll tell the story, then attempt to explain.

My shul (temple) is having lots of visiting rabbis, and my mom decides to tell the latest one that the first word I learned to spell was Frogger. The rabbi replies.. "oh yeah? I loved that game!"
And thus a new breed of orthodox rabbi was born.

Explanation:
Orthodox rabbis are known for their total lack of knowledge on pop culture. If they know something, it tends to be 10 years old. No matter how old the rabbi is, even if they are in their 20s, they appear to have the pop culture knowledge of your grandparents. They also tend to not own televisions, let alone watch them, and most have more blocks and filters on their internet connection than SafeSurfing.net knows exits.

Those SPARTANs are from Halo: Combat Evolved, not Halo 2.

I'm referring to the link, Zaltan. It is machinima, using the Halo engine, titled Red vs Blue. Also, Avasyu is the creator God of Imperian.

Lisaera2005-01-20 15:02:25
Halo 2 -does- rock.
Jalain2005-01-20 16:51:58
I think my favorite game is Bad Fur Day for the N64.
Since I don't have enough money to get an Xbox, coupled with the fact that I don't want Microsoft taking over my living room, I don't think I'll ever be playing Halo.. Or well, I'll stick with my PS2 and San Andreas.
Kree2005-01-20 17:45:52
Oh wow the weekends I spent glued to my old black and white TV with my commodore64 hooked up to Compuserve, trying to find that mythical back door we all knew was there but could never find.
Umm I even have a com64 emulator on my pc so I can still play Wastelands, best game they ever made for it. Sad I know....
Asarnil2005-01-20 17:51:22
You lie!

Granny's Garden 4 EVAH!!!!

Defender of the Crown pwns j00
Dan2005-01-20 19:16:39
oh!! take that, Lisaera Herself said Halo 2 rocks... awesome.

Yeah, I watch G4TechTV almost nonstop (unless I am not watchingit and playing Lusternia, at a friends house, or doing homework). I know all sorts of stuff about atari, and yeah, I do know about pong, but I just didnt know how to explain it or tie it to my point, so I dropped it.

F'ai Halo and Halo 2! tongue.gif

Pong = cathode rays on TV screen. Ancient, with wierd controller, but most entertaining.
Richter2005-01-20 21:41:18
I've been recently obsessed with GTA: San Andreas. Part of the reason I'm not no Lusternia as much anymore. The game is HUGE.
Unknown2005-01-20 21:45:56
Writing is stealing my time. Finally getting something done with my life. 7300 words down and counting.
Nyla2005-01-20 21:53:42
GTA:San Andreas rules. Its teaching me to be the gangsta I knew I always had inside me!
Nika2005-01-21 03:55:36
We have every single RVB episode. Plus special episodes.

It kinda banks up the harddrive a bit.
Unknown2005-01-21 04:53:13
So do I Nika, and the Season one DVD. tongue.gif
