I've been using it for months now. It's faster, more stable, and much more secure then IE. It's interface is slick, with multitudes of downloadable skins, and extensions (like plugins), all of which download and install through a simple menu, so you can customize it to your needs (say for example if you wished to control Windows Media player from inside your browser without opening it in its own window, or use mouse gestures). It's also a small download of 4.7 mb. Join the 19 million other users, and ditch IE, you won't be disappointed.
Check it out.

I've been using it since before its full release too and have not turned back.

Yea, I've been using it since its preview beta release, when I saw it being discussed on extremetech.com. No reason a person would ever want to use IE.

Hah, you newbie Firefoxians! I have been using Firefox since it first got released - through all the bugs and everything it was still a better browser than IE
In my day, there was no nifty little installation interface for this Firefox thingummy - you had to grab yourself your unzippy little tool, and insert it into the thingummy and unzip that browser to any damned path that you felt like.

I love the way the website has options to download the browser "For Windows, English" or "For Windows, English (British)"
That said, I've been meaning to switch for ages, so thanks for the link to save me the trouble of looking it up .

We got one!

I think that the reason you arent getting more, is that most people probably already use it. And yeah I am another since first release user. In fact, I think I still have it on my harddrive

I'll get it when I can convince my parents I'm not actually installing a new program, it's Microsoft's newest release of IE. They really will believe me (they've done with things like that before), it'll just take a while. Firefoxes are just the cutest animals anyway, so you gotta use a program named after one. *hum*

I've recently switched to Firefox. I was using Avant before, which is at least BETTER then IE. But firefox is pretty damn cool. The only thing I don't like, which I'm sure I could fix if I knew where the setting was...when clicking a link opens a new, separate page, I'd rather it were a tab on the same window rather then a new window...Avant was really good about that.
Anyway, join the craze! Get Firefox! Also, check out ObjectDock, I love this thing!

I have 4 different browsers, each for different things I want. For example... if I want to quickly check something, then quit, I would NEVER use firefox. It takes forever to boot up, its so annoying!
Thats what I use IE for, cause its quick and snappy.

IE has security issues. I never have problems with Firefox, and it's the only browser I really use or trust.
Daganev2005-01-21 21:47:39
how long does it take you between doublclicking hte icon and seeing the first Firefox window pop up? For me its normally 30 seconds or more. Ofcourse once the first window is up all the other windows and tabs pop up with no problem.
And I'm not really concerned about Google giving me secuirty problems. If they wanted to I'm sure they could bypass firefox security as well.

About two seconds. Comparable to IE. Your computer just sucks.
Daganev2005-01-21 21:56:10
that would be computers.. all the computers that I have used firefox on have the same issue loading up the first window.
Richter2005-01-21 21:58:11
Not mine, and I have a laptop that's running 50 or so processes at once.

Ultimately, you can't eliminate IE totally yet simply because of the proprietary technology inherent in its building... a lot of websites utilized it and thus often you'll have problems placing orders and such using firefox. Deviantart was one of the most recent websites that I know of that had to do a major overhaul to make it compatible with firefox. All in all, the firefox browser is definitely the way to go in regards to spyware and whatnot unless you have to use IE. As for Daganev talking about the slowness... I'm curious if you're using an older version. That was something I noticed with the beta firefox, but currently an all four of my systems it loads as quick if not quicker than IE.
Daganev2005-01-21 22:12:11
Ahh that is a good point.. I havn't updated firefox since.... July of 2004.. I'll have to go look when I'm home.
Unknown2005-01-21 22:33:31
also remember that nothing loads as slow as IE, that first 30 seconds to a minute when you boot up , plus the 30 seconds logging in, thats IE loading up.
Unknown2005-01-22 01:30:35
I think I have Firefox somewhere, or another browser which sounds like it.

Ooh, I found it.
I think I have the same problem as daganev: it takes a while to load, maybe about 15 seconds. But that could just be my computer.
So what actually makes it better than IE, apart from security issues? And where can I find themes/skins for it?
