It is never enough, no never.
I think these manses are just wonderful, and I can't wait until we've finished our little area. However, it can't hurt to offer some suggestions for improvement, so I'd like to take the opportunity to do it here and see what you all think. I know some want alembics/pentagrams, but I don't really want to duplicate that thread here.
Personally, I would like to see an another option for manipulating our manses.
MANSE SET ROOM ENVIRONMENT
- Change the environment type of your room.
- Costs 4000 gold.
- Note that herbs will not grow in the Aetherways.
- Valid environment types are: urban, forest, freshwater, underground, taint, mountains, swamp, path, wasteland, valley. (I think thats most of them)
I think this would make things so much more realistic for those who aren't creating city-based interiors. I can't see it would give any advantages other than racial regeneration, but all the rooms can be forceforested/flooded/tainted as it is now anyway. This would just carry the disadvantage of not being able to put up paintings or statues.
Also, I'd like to see each manse treated as its own area with different manses acting as different continents on the plane of Aetherways. This way, portalling/summoning between them would be restricted somewhat, and yelling won't carry across all the domains.
Finally, could someone explain why only the ugly doors can actually be usefully locked shut? I don't particularly want to create our family manor with enormous thick metal doors throughout it.
What do you all think, and do you have any other suggestions?

I agree with everything you said.
Unknown2005-01-23 06:33:40
Good, but far far too cheap. Make it more like 40k-400k
Elryn2005-01-23 07:00:00
Wait, why would it be that costly? Changing the title/description/exits of a room is only 1000 gold. Why would environment cost a good portion or more of the cost of a single room?
Oh, and I also thought of something else:
MANSE ADD FEATURE
- Adds a feature to your room that can be examined.
- Costs... um... 50000 gold?
- Takes you to the Lusternia editor to describe the feature.
This would be for something that is mentioned in the description of a room, that could then be examined or looked at for further detail. It doesn't show up as an object in the room, or actually do anything of itself.

Environment change for 4k sounds good, though I don't know if they ever intended us to be able to have more than just housing.
That would fix my issue of not being able to statue or erect a shrine.

I disagree. I don't believe Manses were designed for city characters only. Of course, I welcome any divine to tell me differently.
Buho2005-01-23 13:00:58
manse
1. A cleric's house and land, especially the residence of a Presbyterian minister.
2. A large stately residence.
3. Archaic. The dwellings belonging to a householder.
I'm sure there maybe more things added to manse later. Feel free to make suggestions, you never know, we might use it.

Well, to be fair, the textbook definition doesn't exactly say they float in a bubble of extra-planar currents, either.
Are you saying that they -were- designed to be city dwellings?

I wish you could gateweave gates to the other planes, since the announce post does state all planes are adjacent to the aetherways.

Would love to be able to add a no-decay flag without making it into a shop.
Aebrin2005-01-23 15:47:39
I like the different environment. I personally would, if I can ever afford it which I hope yes, a Manse with a backyard, or a stable, or a pond.
Ever thought about giving Gems of Health and Gems of Mana to manses? Not to mention News rooms.
Also, I put it somewhere else, any chance of buying furniture and decorations for manses? (I talked about making a trade skill of it, but *shrugs)
BTW: who's the mysterious divine Buho?

One of thar endurance/willpower regen rooms would also be nice. And make manses more useful. (Once the whole arena business is sorted out.)
Buho's an ephemeral. He rescued me from underground, yay.

Just came up with thingy...
I don't know about Elryn's scope of all those different environment, but having a limited change would be nice.
I was thinking if you could put a stable environment.... basically while your steed is within the stables, the steed feedbag level will not drop as they are grazing on the grass. Or at least will not drop once per month, but rather once per two months.

Aebrin, great idea on the Newsroom.
Aebrin2005-01-23 17:21:50
Heh thanks.
One thing Elryn, why not herbs in rooms? I suppose this:
CHANGE ROOM INTO
ESTABLISH GARDEN PATCH HERE
PATCHES
PLANT (PLANT) IN PATCH#
CLEAR PATCH#
In a garden you may plant up to five (5) different plant life. There is a 50% that the plant life will not hold and will wither. Plant life must be from the Prime realms as all the plants from Ethereal, Cosmic and Astral Planes require special special planal conditions. To establish a garden, you must first create the room into an outdoor condition (ie CHANGE ROOM INTO OUTDOORS) and then ESTABLISH GARDEN PATCH HERE. Each patch will cost 5000gp. To view each individual patch, use PATCHES to list. Select the herb you wish to plant, then PLANT IN PATCH# (eg PLANT GALINGALE IN PATCH1). You must plant 10 of the same herbs in the patch to begin the process. It will take two months to make sure the plantlife is establishing in your patch.
Flowers, like the Flower Pot, can also be planted here. It costs 50cr to purchase the seeds to put into a patch. It will work as a flower pot, except not portable.
Example: PLANT SEEDS IN PATCH#
To view what flowers are in the Patch, use LOOK IN PATCH#
Example of PATCHES:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
| Patch No. | Plant Type | Condition |
|============================================|
|::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::|
| Patch 1 | Galingale (45)................................. | Flourishing....|
| Patch 2 | Yarrow ............................................| Growing....... |
| Patch 3 | - Empty -..........................................|................... |
| Patch 4 | Flowers........................................... | Flourishing ..|
|_________________________________________________|
Flourishing means the plant has established itself in the patch and is subject to the same Herbs rules as the outside world. Growing means it is still within the 2 months and the conditions are uncertain.
What do you think?
EDIT: Please excuse my really bad Ascii table in advance but this forum hates my ascii drawings.,
YET ANOTHER EDIT: Oh you need the HARVEST skills for the plants. You can't just have them, unless it's the flowers of course.

I wanted to go off the idea of having interactable items that you can touch but not really doing anything with. Just items that appear in the descriptions.
What about having desks and drawerss that you can put things in?

Haha drawers *cough*
Yeah I was pushing about that re: furnitures and decorations. Or curtains... women love curtains.

I don't like curtains. I like blinds though..
Richter2005-01-23 18:45:20
Oooh, dirty Ialie. I have an unused apartment in my manse with your name on it. *wiggle*
I'd like to see newsrooms, but not expensive ones. Also libraries, but not expensive. I'm going to want some place to put my books in, ya know? In Aetolia, my character went around copying books from all over, and always wanted a library. Something like 50cr for each of those minis.
Perhaps the ability to put more than one thing in a room, or shop in a manse? I'd surely like to have more than one shop, because people have mentioned it.
