Does anyone know what skill / skillset is used to pierce illusions?
Edit: I don't mean detection or illusions in discernment. I mean illusions like "So and so slings a ger rune at you."

Discernment.
Vesar2005-01-24 18:36:06
i'm trans discernment. No seeing through illusions for me. Also, the illusion skill in discernment is for seeing through illusioned terrain, not normal illusions.
Shiri2005-01-24 19:32:47
The higher your discernment skill, the better your chances of seeing through illusions. It's hit-or-miss.
Vesar2005-01-24 19:58:42
Well, I just tested by having someone illusion me 30+ times in a row and with trans discernment I didn't pierce one illusion. That's pretty hit-or-miss.

Or, of course, you could be one of those wonderful wonderful Krokani.

Its in Artistry, trans.
A supberb artist can sense what is real and what is not. or something like that.

That doesn't do it. That's a command. I think there's a passive way to recognize illusions, but I can't find it.

There has to be other ways to see them.

The trans skill only takes out all illusions in a room, it doesn't work against what they were talking about.
Heh, I've only used that skill once, and it was a huge waste of power...

Maybe it wouldn't be if someone pulled a reality and a phantom on you...same power cost, and those are both uncurable skills otherwise? Plus statue/nature/terrain/programmed/magicmouth/script (like anyone uses the last ones). Question about illusions - IS there a point to terrain? Does it mean that it actually IS taint that they regenerate in, for example, or that a Geo can taint there whereas a Hartstone has to forest and meld even in a forest?
Shamarah2005-01-24 20:44:54
Yes, there is a point to terrain, but it doesn't matter unless you're a mage/druid.
Shiri2005-01-24 21:00:04
Ah, so it lets you meld, is that? Or stops someone else breaking it, or what? Is it a purely mental illusion, or is physical? (As in, does it just fool people, or does it have a game function?)
Shamarah2005-01-24 21:03:25
When people survey, they see the illusory terrain rather than the real one. More importantly, however, if you want to force out a demesne, you have to get rid of the terrain first.

EDIT: Double post.
Fain2005-01-24 21:21:56
The higher your ability in arts, the better chance you have of seeing illusions (or so Roark says) So if you are trans you should see through em pretty often.
Shiri2005-01-24 21:37:58
Ah, I knew about the surveying part, it just seemed useless because you already should know what the area is. Didn't know you had to break the terrain though, that'll be the mechanic advantage I was referring to. Thanks!

I have trans arts, and I very rarely see through illusions. I can count on my one hand how many times I have pierced illusions cast in the room.
Ethelon2005-01-24 23:52:13
I'm trans arts and Discernment and have yet to ever see through or pierce an illusion, terrain or otherwise...I must have bad luck
