Okay, a few things:
Europe includes Russia west of the Urals, Cyprus, and the European bit of Turkey; Asia is everything else there.
North/Central America is Greenland, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and all islands of the Caribbean.
This poll is geographically, not politically. So, say if you live in New Caledonia, select Pacific/Australasia, not Europe, even though it's a territory of France.
Select where you are right now, if you are living there, but not if you are on holiday. If you are on holiday, select where you "live".
I've probably missed something out, an option in the poll or here, but, meh.

Wonder how large the American population is by comparison to the rest of us put together.
Unknown2005-01-26 22:43:06
Go go continental Europe!
Daganev2005-01-26 22:44:30
I don't understand why you divided Euruope up into Uk/ireland, and Europe but didn't divide Asia up into Middle East and East Asia. Or Africa into Northern half of Africa and Southern Half of Africa. i.e Morraco, vs South Africa.
Unknown2005-01-26 22:48:40
I divided it up on approximately the population spread of MUD players (since they're mostly English speakers), not really geographically or completely politically.
Unknown2005-01-26 23:04:31
More Europeans (all) than Americans at the moment...
Daganev2005-01-26 23:07:52
yes but why divide up Uk/Europe? That sounds very political to me.
Unknown2005-01-26 23:10:12
its more to do with that if you polled by every individual country you might get 2 from each european country, but 20 from UK, so to make each section about equal in terms of expected outcome. Which is pretty accurate as is done.
Daganev2005-01-26 23:19:26
Yes, all your explanations make no sense.
If your going to divide up Large areas into sub areas, then divide up all large areas into sub areas.
I consider Middle East, and East Asia two very different places.
I would also consider Sub Sahara Africa very different than places north of the Sahara.

What do you mean, Europe/UK sounds political? Of course it is, but it's geographical too. We're on an island apart from the continent, you know.
Daganev2005-01-26 23:28:55
Ok, incase your not aware, Many people in South Africa speak English. Many people in Israel speak English.
That information, is what has caused my confusion. I've met my share of mudders from SA and Israel.

Look at the poll results, Daganev.
They'll be better when more people vote.

Silvanus2005-01-26 23:32:07
Daganev, its quite simple really. Based on other IRE muds, there are tons more UK/Ireland players then European. There are tons more USA players then Canadian players, that is why Canada is in the North America and USA has its own section.
Unknown2005-01-26 23:34:40
Its a projected demographic. To make each section contain approximately equal final results. if you had one player in every country in europe (which I highly doubt) you would have about 30-35 players, there are more than that in just the UK and Ireland. So splitting UK/Ireland off which you know will give a high demographic gives you information you didnt already know, if you lumped it all as Europe and got 200 and 170 were from the UK, it wouldnt be much use. Since you expect a lot of UK players, you seperate them so you can remove their influence on the demographic of the region
Unknown2005-01-26 23:35:14
Like, Africa currently is on 0. I don't see any point in dividing that up. And Asia only has one, there's no point in dividing them up.
Daganev2005-01-26 23:35:39
And Pacific/Australasia? Arn't there more Australians than random other countries in the area like NZ?
Even in simple user friendly polls you people can't get away from your biases.

ok lets put all 250 coutries on there, then its fair. Statistics IS biased, you have to make assumptions or you are just wasting your time generating useless information.
Silvanus2005-01-26 23:38:02
Yes, thats true Daganev, but there is not more Australians then Americans/English.
Unknown2005-01-26 23:38:35
But if you increased New Zealand's total population to that of Australia's, they'd have the same amount of MUD players.
Europes different, because continental Europe has far more people than UK/Ireland, yet UK/Ireland has more MUD players.

Daganev2005-01-26 23:38:36
No honestly, It makes a lot of sense to remove the Major country from a region and set it seperate from the other regions. But I don't understand only doing that for some regions but not others. Unless you just didn't think about it and it was a mistake.
