Freeform Emotes

I want to be able to emote an action targetted to someone.

I would do something like,

Ixion would see, "Melanchthon kicks you really hard."

Everyone else would see, "Melanchthon kicks Ixion really hard."

If Ixion weren't in the room when I did that, it would be just like a regular preset emote given an invalid target and could default to 'you', or better yet, return a 'please restate' message to help avoid embarrassment.

Custom emotes are wondrous, wondrous things, but it would be really nice to expand them beyond one-on-one situations.

Also, how about a way to attach an 's at the begining of a freeform emote, so we don't have to add fluff just to get the syntax to work.

Ex:

Good --> Melanchthon's eyes sparkle with mischief.

Meh --> Melanchthon smiles, his eyes sparkling with mischief.

I like this idea.

me likes its lots

i agree entirely smile.gif

...i also think it looks weird how your whole title gets stuck in there and not just your name like normal emotes

I was going to suggest that -- it's off Shadow of Isildur. It'd be good to also be able to do that with mobs, using a different symbol.

@ may screw up some people who use zMUD, so something like * might be better (how often to you put * right before a word?). And then maybe & for mobs.

I LURVE IT!

I hate it being kept saying "You" or "Monkeyboy" when you are Monkeyboy or something.

Oh and get rid of emotes that you can do to yourself. Seriously... how many people can spit in their own face?
Flow2005-01-27 20:09:17
You bend over backwards and spit upwards. Easy.

The difficult one is skipping in a circle around yourself.
Daganev2005-01-27 20:10:49
stick out your left hand, point your pointer finger down, as if holding the top of a balerna, procede to skip in a circle.

I don't know if anyone here has played armageddon. I didn't really like it, but their emote system is amazing. You can emote how you leave rooms and things

I'd love something like

-n stalking off in anger
Sekreh leaves to the north, stalking off in anger.

or even better

-n skips off to the $DIR, frolicing gaily
Sekreh skips off to the north, frolicing gaily

plus targeted cutom emotes

And they have a built in alias of : for emote, i.e.

-: smiles evily, giving @Fain a look of utter condescention
Sekreh smiles evily, giving Fain a look of utter condescention

with Fain seeing "you" or whatever

Or even emotes that allow you to put your name in the middle of them, like...

'Smiling wryly, -ME slaps blarghlahaha.'

would produce:

Smiling wryly, Etanru slaps blarghahlalala.

In Shadows of Isildur, you could do this:

say (looking up at *Bob) You know how *Jim came here recently...
A tall, fair-haired man says, looking up at a fat man, in Westron,
"You know how a little, bearded dwarf came here recently..."

But obviously you can see peoples names in Lusternia...

The problem with being able to put your name anywhere in an emote is its vast potential for abuse.
Unknown2005-01-27 22:10:07
Emotes are potential for abuse just by having them as they already are.

It takes balance. And besides, you can do it as is, and pretend you're slinging runestones or what have you. If you have something that stops your triggers going if it comes up in green emotey colour, the same will apply, so there's very little difference at all.
