Anyone have any idea what afflictions focus spirit is supposed to cure? I've heard it cures ancestralcurse, darkmoon, omen, and possibly heretic. It'd be great to actually have any of these confirmed.
Shiri2005-01-29 22:43:42
Hmmm. It wouldn't be that elusive cure for phantoms as well, would it?
Silvanus2005-01-29 22:45:20
Phantoms, reality (?), Omen, the Hartstone's equivalent to phantoms/reality (?). Things like that. Heretic/Infidel (not sure on those).
Amaru2005-01-30 00:17:59
Ancestral curse and dark moon.

NOT phantom, NOT heretic or infidel, NOT omen.

^You sense the curse of the stag's ancestral spirits leaves your soul.
^You sense the curse of the dark moon leaves your spirit.

I was told that it does cure heretic/infidel, in which we tested it. And it does cure omen.

Edit: Tested Omen, not heretic/infidel.
Shiri2005-01-30 00:25:46
That's ALL a trans skill cures, compared to focus mind? Hmph. Don't seem right, that it don't.
Unknown2005-01-30 00:26:47
Heretic/Infidel is not cured by focus spirit. Phantoms is not cured by focus spirit. Reality is not cured by focus spirit.

It rather randomly cures darkmoon/ancestralcurse, taking multiple tries.. though this may just be those two wearing off naturally at the same time you focus spirit.

The only thing I'm aware of that it cures for sure, is "sickened by the earth's taint" given by Geomancers.

Hmm, so I spend 8 powers to ancestralcurse someone that might give up to 3 afflictions over the next 15 or so seconds and it is cureable by a mere 250 mana from focus spirit? What in the world is there a skill aimed at negating the only two affliction-giving abilities for Totem specialization? sad.gif

Ancestralcurse is not so bad if the rest of the skillset has something useful. But unfortunately, Stag totem is almost a complete waste of lessons for Serenguards. Most abilities are either duplicated in other skillsets, or too costly in power to use regualry (like Ancestralcurse).

Moon is much worse for a Serenguard.

One thing I was always curious about, then rather disillusioned with when I became transcendant:
QUOTE
Your tutor whispers to you of the greatest feat
possible with Discipline, the curing of your very spirit. He jests that this
might be necessary if you decide to use your other powers to end your own life.

How is focus spirit supposed to help if you use your other powers to kill yourself? As far as I know, you can't self-inflict the two totem curses. This message makes it sound like its almost a vitae sort of thing.
Unknown2005-02-03 12:54:39
It also cures the constitution lowering ability in Highmagic, which otherwise has no cure and lasts like 30 minutes, and the one that lowers charisma in Lowmagic. I don't think it actually cures darkmoon and ancestralcurse, because you have to hit it multiple times, and sometimes the focus spirit message and the ancestral curse wearing off appear together.
Geb2005-02-03 14:57:40
Oh, it cures ancestralcurse for sure. Everytime someone has casted the curse on me, I immediately focused spirit and received the cure message. A person has to immediately cure the curse though, or yes the curse does not seem to go away.

I also seem to cure the heretic designation, if not the actual curse, when I focus spirit. I will still receive the periodic afflictions, but the actual branding will be absent from my diagnose information.
Daganev2005-02-07 08:21:57
heartstop is also in Discipline, that line might be refering to that.

The added bonus of discipline is that it decreases the balance time for focus mind and focus body as well as increase the rate at which you gain power.... or so I hear.
Elryn2005-02-07 13:06:35
Aye, that's what I would have thought too, Daganev. But how does focus spirit cure that? Maybe you can focus spirit when praying and conglutinate or something?
Unknown2005-02-07 13:22:17
From what I've heard, heartstop is unstoppable when used. Maybe you can stop it with focus spirit (If it takes some time to die after entering heartstop, I've never used it yet).
Elryn2005-02-07 14:01:13
From what I remember, it is instant. If it wasn't, I imagine entering any other command would stop it anyway, otherwise there isn't much point in having a delay.
Unknown2005-02-07 14:45:10
Focus spirit has nothing to do with heartstop. The line is part of the discipline teaching and refers only to the heartstop skill.
Elryn2005-02-07 22:48:14
Well, the tutor says 'the greatest feat possible', and 'curing of the very spirit' which to me is a reference to focus spirit. It also implies it is different to the other skills which are harmful, and in fact is a counter to them - 'it might be necessary if you use your other powers to end your own life'

Note that they are seperate sentances. In English, seperate sentances are capable of containing seperate thoughts.
