Whereas most demesnes kill plant life, and currently hartstone demesnes do nothing to it, perhaps cause a latent demesne affect, like the influencing bonus for geomancers, except causing herbs to grow 33% faster in forest demesned areas, due to the powerful natural forces resonating with the land.
eirene2005-01-31 15:46:21
I think this is probably a really good idea, and will also give more incentive for people to really care whether or not an area is demesned. Right now, I see Stewartsville, Delport, Rockholm, and other random sections of lusternia demesned with forest, taint, and flood all right next to eachother. I think from an RP standpoint, people should be a bit more protective of their demesnes and having non-combat roles for demesnes would maybe promote that more
Akraasiel2005-01-31 20:12:07
Perhaps other latent effects could be developed for the other demesne types.
ohtaren2005-01-31 21:01:47
I think tainted demesnes should see a 33% increase in the rat population. (I'm not trying to be mean, that would be quite cool). Aquas could see a 33% increase in ocean creature population like sharks and kelpies and such.
Shiri2005-01-31 21:25:50
I don't think magical water is going to suddenly cause sharks to appear out of nowhere.
ohtaren2005-01-31 21:30:01
yeah the aqua one was a stretch, but I do like the herbs and rats. I just wanted to come up with something so that it is even.
Silvanus2005-01-31 21:33:44
For the Taint: In any Tainted land demesne, the sun is weakened, thereby enabling Liches to get +1/+1 during the day (so, in total -1/-1 during the day as long as they are in a Geomancers demesne who has the ability to do that).
For the Aquamancers: Can't come up with anything...

NON COMBAT ADDITIONS!
And how exactly would tainted land weaken the sun? If a lich cowers in doors during the day, they still receive penalities.

Umm, if a lich cowers in a pitch black cave during the day... it still gets penalities. I don't think a dark cloud would change that.

It should

What's next? The Dark Cloud will block out of the Moon thus prevents Rage *roll*

Good idea! (adds it to the list).
In all seriousness, I'd prefer if the Taint did have a somewhat better advantage then more rats appearing (where'd the rats thing come from anyways? The Taint /= the Plague). Better advantage meaning something cooler.

The whole point to this thread is non-combat additions! Quit hijacking!

Try to keep suggestions here non combat related. Im hoping this inspires a trend away from the hack and slash nature that many have adopted.

Forest = Herbs grow
Flooded = Herbs get replanted faster. (i.e when the demesne goes away, replanting 1 herb creates 5 herbs in the room)
Tainted = Herbs that grow are more resistant to hibernation. (meaning less die during hibernation period)
This way, all types of demenses would have a nice benefit for herbalists. (not that they need more benefits)

Taint = poisoned land = herbs are more resistant to hibernation? Riiiiiight
Plus, geomancers and aquamancer demesnes would still kill plants so that's kinda silly. Furthermore, geomancers and aquamancers cannot be herbalists. I suggest this:
Forest - herbs grow faster
Taint - more rats (and could possibly attract rats to areas where they are not naturally found)
Flood - Hmm... by bathing over time in the purified waters over time, there is a chance to increase charisma because it has positive effects on wrinkles and stuff? Plus, it would give the Aquamancers an excuse to have naked, orgy parties where you could meet new people...
Daganev2005-02-01 02:26:14
If they can survive Poision, they can survive a little winter.
Daganev2005-02-01 02:44:02
you see the idea was post demense.... but anyway...
Here are things flooded rooms could do.
force people to swim.
Create puddles people can SPLASH in.
create prune like finger tips. (lower charisma)
Make everybody else have prune like finger tips (raise charisma)
Sitting water attracts mosquitos giving everyone random afflictions and little bugs to swat.
Make the grass look greener on the other side of the fence.
