Just curious as to if there's anyone here who plays NWN. I haven't played much online stuff, but I just beat SoU (and I beat the normal game a while ago).
Shiri2005-01-31 18:42:17
Beat the single player, but as with so many of these things online was a disaster (gamespy didn't help. I much prefer battle.net.) And I was too impatient (not to mention crap tongue.gif) to do the DM thing, so it got stale pretty fast.

I beat the first expansion pack, tried to beat the second but died repeatedly to the big nasty guy, and didn't quite beat the first. Haven't done any online stuff.
Richter2005-01-31 19:01:21
I don't even know what that stands for...
Shiri2005-01-31 19:07:30
Neverwinter Nights.

D&D based PC game, couple years back. Took about 5 years to develop, and it SHOWS. tongue.gif

Neverwinter Nights...

The game was a huge dissappointment to me. I was expected Baulders Gate II's quality. I was sorely disappointed.

Online was only worse, it degenerated into 'I can make uber items better then you' and *giiggle* 'lookies, I made it so the girls have boobs!' *giggle* 'Yeah, well I made the jiggle... hey are you a girl in real life, because I am lesbian...' 'Oh! I am... do you want me to make use a private module!' 'Kewl.' *giggle*

...I don't think I played long enough to see that last bit, but yeah, it was sad. I ADORED BG2. And IWD+IWD2 to a lesser extent. They were total epics.
Shamarah2005-01-31 19:36:33
I know everyone's going to kill me for this, but I haven't played Baldur's Gate. (Commence beating.) Also, I thought Icewind Dale was bad. (Commence pulp-beating.)

Has anyone played Wizardry 8, though? That was one awesome game.

Hmm, I'm hijacking my own thread!
Shiri2005-01-31 19:43:02
Oh, no, hey, I understand if you think IWD was bad. I don't know why I like it really. And I hated BG1, it PO'd me no end. But seriously, try and buy BG2, you can prolly find it for about...$2. Or about. It is AWESOME. One of the best games you'll ever play. (Also try to look up some sort of background check for BG1, it'll help it make sense, though it is SERIOUSLY good enough to stand on its own even if the story makes less sense that way.)
Nementh2005-01-31 19:50:48
Baulders Gate was good, but the techology to make it baulders gate II wasn't there... they were limited as to what they could do. Where as BGII, most of those limits vanished.

IWD was good, if you played as it was ment to be played. With 5 other people online or on a LAN. IWD is what NWN was aiming to be with a fancy graphics engine and more flexiblity. However, unlike NWN, IWD had a stock storyline that was actually fun to play with, and it connected with the FR story line.

IWDII, also good. But in comparison to BG/BGII IWD is nothing. BGII will forever be remember as a classic, and it will always be morned when you think of the Bioware Black Isle split, because deep down, you know you will never see a computer game of that level ever again.

However, Jade Empire is really looking up, at least we know Bioware is not dead, even if it is now making games for the xBox.

Played Wizardry 8, liked the game very much (I don't want to use the word 'loved').
Played BG 1 and 2, had lots of fun.
Played Planescape Torment, and found it a little disappointing (I had heard about it a 1000 and one time before, and thought it'll be very sophisticated, with lots of moral/philosophical questions built in...), but still very fun - better then BG 2.

Played NWN, and I can say - you people know NOTHING about multiplayer NWN. Yes, if you go to just any random server there you'll find a HnS or a uber-item building contest, but if you find a GOOD persistent world with a server character database - it rules. WP's (roughly translates into Virtual Poland) official server has more role-playing potential then Lusternia (shoot me for this, I don't care), and it actually USES that potential. The only thing I don't like in NWN are the graphics - the rooms are so large and everything looks empty.

Hmm... NWN...

I've not played the expansions, but I've beaten the main single player game a few times with different classes.

To be honest, I wasn't as impressed as I would have been if there wasn't hype about it for the whole 5 year development. But then, people were expecting Baldurs Gate II kind of quality and depth/length, which wasn't going to happen.

Granted, with sufficiently skilled and dedicated GMs online - and a reasonably competent and not idiotic playerbase - that kind of thing is a possibility, since the mechanics are already in place. I just can't see it happening very much though, and by no means do I have the skills needed! wink.gif

Here's to waiting for a Baldurs Gate/Icewind Dale III with the depth of the previous games, and the engine of NWN. *daydream*

Oh, and Baldurs Gate II (with the Throne of Bhaal expansion) is one of my favourite games ever. After Lusternia, of course.

Richter2005-01-31 20:00:29
Uh, I played BG Dark Alliance 1. That was a good game. happy.gif
Daganev2005-01-31 20:02:03
Planescape: Torment is still the best.
Unknown2005-01-31 20:05:00
Nope, Betrayal at Krondor and Adom are the best. But Planescape is third - the most FF-like non-japRPG ever.
Shiri2005-01-31 20:05:44
Still can't find planescape anywhere. Only played the demo of BG:DA, was thoroughly disappointed because I thought it would be like BG2. No luck.
Daganev2005-01-31 20:22:48
I'm a big fan of originality, and Planescape fits that, kinda.

Lusternia has also added a bit to my renewed love for it.

Indeed.
And BG2+ToB and Fallout 2 right after it.

Sadly the best RPG I have ever played (I may be a bit bias on this one) was one that was never actually finished. Me and a bunch of friends got together, I was just a young niave story writer at this point, and we started from scratch with no idea what to do...

Four years later, we had our own engine, and a depth of story and game itself that we were happy to showcase it to get it published. But we wern't willing to sell the rights to it (It had our sweat and blood in it, three children were born during its publishing time, and one team member died, who they didn't want to list as a designer, but only as an 'in memory of') So we decided we would keep it among ourselves...

We occasionally talk about trying again, but now our technology is completely out of date and none of us have the time to revamp it, so it died.
