just wondering, has anyone actually -BOUGHT- any of the elemental damage greatrunes for their weapons?
I am considering it, but the cost (500 cr per rune) is -just- out of my reach. Anyone else have thoughts or suggestions on it? I know that I would be buying a couple if they were a bit cheaper, but +10 to each stat with 100cr change seems to be a lot more value for money for me.
My own personal opinion is that at 300 cr they are priced well, my initial opinion is they are useful, but too expensive.
What do you guys think? I know for sure id be buying a couple if they were more in reach.

I am at a similar stage I -almost- bought one, but it just seems a little too expensive. And you would have to be careful about which you took, as some just have too many resistances against them. In the end I think the best value ones are the wounding modifiers.

yeah i tend to be of the same idea. The biggest problem is selecting the right one, ebcause you are always gonna choose one that people are resistant to, but +10 stats to you weapon doesn't discriminate

Electricity runes are a good investment. Two fairly common races (Merian very much so, particularly in Celest, who are mostly the ones you fight) have a weakness to it, and only one has a resistance - Krokani. I've never seen a Krokani, so you're probably safe in that respect. Besides, they have a level 1 weakness to cutting, so it would balance out.
Also, far more skills give physical resistance than magic/lightning, so any of that (large amount of) damage that you can convert into a less-resisted type will help.

I've seriously considered buying elemental runes, but even with the artie sale, they are just a bit too high priced for me to go ahead and blow 750cr to have one on each of my weapons
Murphy2005-02-03 15:33:11
i was thinking fire runes, only dracnaris have that resistance, and mugwumps and merians have that weakness.
Devris2005-02-03 15:38:32
I think its one of those things that you buy when you are truly locked into your role as a character. If I am Magnagoran for eternity, I might go ahead and by the runes if I am fighting Celest and a ton of Merians alot. If/when the other cities come aboard, some of them have weaknesses against stuff as well (their native races). Since I haven't seen any in use yet, can't really say if they are overpriced.

Frost vials provide general resistance, so does proofing once that actually starts working. Aren't you forgetting that Merians and Mugwumps also have lightning susceptibility as well? Wait..I'm a Merian, oh well, screwed either way.

I think what would be helpful when deciding which runes to get is to know the formula for calculating damage. It probably involves quite a few variables (damage, strength, skill levels etc) and some random factors too. But knowing approximately how much more potential damage or how much more accurate with +10 stat is worth in comparison with how much extra damage from a lightning rune will help a great deal for me when deciding which type of rune to purchase. Especially when they are worth so much credits and cannot be tested before making a purchase.
Murphy2005-02-03 16:01:59
Well I'm definitley locked in as Magnagorian, been there since day one.
So thats not a problem, the resistances are a problem, but its a choice. The biggest factor is their priceyness. How bout seeing a half price sale for like a week or 2 weeks to get them in circulatin a bit more? After all testing them out for the first time should be reason enough for discount

I agree with Terenas, there are too many resistences against fire damage.. So if you plan to eat a lot of Merian steaks, go lightning runes.
I really hope the elemental runes show up when using the weapon.. like for lightning.. "...hits you with an eloquent silver rapier. Lightning arcs from the sword obliterating you with a flash of light." Or something like that.

They don't, but more people would probably buy if they did. The showiness, and all.

Murphy is really, really, gonna hurt when he gets his electricity runes put on his like 170/170/170 flails. I'm a Mugwump, and have a level 3 weakness. Ouch.
Ceres2005-02-04 13:38:57
That's the point at which you go dwarf.
Unknown2005-02-04 13:48:02
Yes. You've got to love being a changeling.
Typhus2005-02-04 18:39:57
Don't forget Murphy, whatever weapon you put them on is perm. So, basically God-weapons stick around for you.
