Yet another poll!

You know what my favorite thing about aetolia is?

40%+ exp loss from death. All the other IRE muds have gotten really pansy-ish about death, they might as well teleport you to a room full of kittens who snuggle you for 15 seconds before sending you to the nexus.
Daganev2005-02-04 04:34:48
The worst part to me is the amount of power and gold/time I spend putting defences back up.

Which is why I'm always confused when people talk about how great liche is.

roflmao.gif That is so true. That is one thing I agree with you on, Jello.

As for experience loss, pssh. I lost about 70% dying to guards (enemy territory afterall) big deal. I could care less. I am more annoyed by having to replace my defenses. I also don't like losing, which is the second worst part.

But I find death interesting, you learn something, and find what you did wrong. It's not a big deal, being PK'ed is not a problem, I don't understand why people make such a big deal over it, and become so emotional over a few numbers that represent experience.
Unknown2005-02-04 05:36:03
The experience lose bugs me. I was once level 55. Now i'm 39. I've just given up and forgotten every single skillset, so now I have an excuse for sucking.
Unknown2005-02-04 05:38:34
Note, however, that a Tae'dae's level 3 slower exp gain means that every time I lose a level i'm basically losing an hour and a half of work, except up when I was in the 50's, in which case it was two to three hours of work gone in about 7 seconds because some Serenwilders wanted a giggle.
Richter2005-02-04 05:41:46
As I rarely die, I hate the exp loss.

The level 3 slower experience on Tae'Dae is just lame. They don't deserve it all. Maybe if they were insanely good (which they aren't from a bashing/pk perspective) and you couldn't reincarnate into them (as in you had to be them from the start) then it might be warranted. Guido, you have my condolences.
Faethan2005-02-04 06:20:09
Dying is a pain in the arse from an xp perspective. I lose a good 5 hours of work when I die, and I'm only level 74. That number is just going to get exponentially higher with the way IRE does the higher levels' xp values. Then again, I don't know that its something I would necissarily make a big change to. A slightly smaller xp loss for higher levels would be nice though.
Olan2005-02-04 07:16:36
I don't really mind dying all that much, although admittedly my number of 'real' deaths is pretty low...mostly either lich or conglutinate. To be honest, what bothers me most is that I'm, at least temporarily, not helping the city until I get back in. It isn't bloodlust, nor personal, its the goal of my character. I put my vote in the 'combat shortcomings' section, as that seemed most appropriate.

That being said, I occasionally and entirely OOCly swear at the Tae'dae level 3 slower xp gain. Its weird that a racial thing would make PK deaths more or less painful. I wish they were changed to only effect XP loss and gain from non-pk kills/deaths.
Daganev2005-02-04 08:37:28
Just because all the people who play Tae'daes suck, doesn't mean the race sucks.

Just ask Raguel or however you spell his name.
Ceres2005-02-04 12:56:44
I don't care about the death except in how it affects my ability to fight negatively, since losing levels loses me max health.
Unknown2005-02-04 13:19:26
I love dying. Why? Because I lich.
Laysus2005-02-04 13:42:16
I don't mind dying. Now the war's over, it's usually to someone I've pissed off, and if I get killed from pissing them off - which at the moment is usually due to insulting Magnagora, or defiling Raezonite shrines - to an extent it fits in with RP.

Don't really die from creatures any more unless I end up on astral, but with that it usually gets me down when it does happen, because I already feel feeble with my slightly more than 2k health at level 63.
Ceres2005-02-04 14:48:26
Become a Dracnari Ur'guard, take lowmagic, eat a hero's fete, cannibalize your health up, sacrifice Daevos and get a Truefavour.

At level 63, with surge..

13156 health.

Guido, you really asked for the trouble when you made that absolutely insane public post. Moral of the story: if your going to betray people that trust you, dont brag about it to the world.

It's not a big deal to you because you're very much into PK. For people who enjoy bashing to gain levels with the goal of becoming a Titan in mind or something, losing exp -is- a big deal. You cant use the excuse "You can just bash and get it back, problem solved" because like someone already said.. one death could result in the loss of many hours of work thats not easily gotten back.
Desdemona2005-02-04 19:43:10
I voted for dying without reason. You could actually consider those few that kill others just because they are of X Race, are from Y Place (when in no times of war), or happen to be standing in Z spot... to basically kill someone just because they are existing. You know, like there is no sense on living as to suddenly jump someone to kill them... Instead of actually trying to construct a life for their character, it could be considered as if the sole purpose of the character were to fight, fight, fight.

"The horror, the horror..."

Bah, losing experience isn't such a big deal until it gets to the point where there's a level you lose more than about three times. Then I get angry
