Here in the USA its that time of year where we celebrate the history that is neglected in the history books and give it its own month. Thats right its Black History Month. The time when some white people feel the need to come up to you and apologize for slavery and hug you(I hate people touching me I dont know), and all the tv shows feel the need to all of a sudden have black people and deal with racism. I hate when people call me African-American;it makes me feel dirty. On a side note, my friend and I were discussing our ancestry and what not, and I told her I was born a Jew. (My mom is Jewish and my Grandmother and her whole family) My friend looked at me and said that cant be.... you're black. Grrrrr.

Then there is Valentines Day. The day that you regret having an open relationship with your boyfriend cause he is spending it with his ex boyfriend, and your ex girlfriend has a new boyfriend so you cant spend it with her.

I am really more annoyned with the whole Black History month thing cause the most ignorant people tend to say the most ignorant things that month. Although being called a nigger loses its sting about the twentieth time.

Sorry I needed to rant.

OMG your black?

Now that we're over that, I feel your pain. I hate all the gay pride stuff going on at the moment here in Sydney. Suddenly people are accepting and ok with 'the whole gay thing'.

I can't stand the stupid questions I get either. February is just that time of month where everyone seems to be curious about me.

"Oh wow! Where did you learn to talk like that, you don't sound like other black people"

"You aren't like most black people"

It does get very annoying, and really dumb really quick.

"Oh J'Andra you have to come to the club with me and show me your moves"
"My moves?"
"Yeah I want to see you dance."
"I .. don't dance"
" Aww come on.. all you people can dance"

and with that I leave you with..

I used to hate Valentines day. Until I finally get to spend it with a girlfriend this year. happy.gif

Hate Valentine Days, even when I have a girlfriend, which is less often then often...

I hate black history month for the exact same reason most Black/African-Americans' hate it, but in a different way. I am white... and what happens in this month is if I don't go hugging every black person, and exhalting the acheivements of the black community, I get acused of being a racist. But oh well, I don't worry about it in the end, because stupid people will beleive what stupid people will.

OMG I need to find an ass to bust a cap in.

OMG! I love busting caps in peoples asses with my nine!

I hate when people tell me I am the whitest black boy ever. Damn you abercrombie and fitch for making clothes I like!

I don't know. I grew up in an area that when black history month comes around, it allows me to actually learn more about well, black history.

I don't feel the need to run around apologizing to people for things that happened hundreds of years ago. I just like to understand more of the history of the world.

I also do not hate gay pride season (I call it season, because in the US it starts around mid-april and goes through mid-august, across the country for Gay Pride Weeks everywhere). The people that 'accept' gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgendered/transexual, et all, are going to accept it regardless. What I enjoy is the fact that I can walk down a street, holding my boyfriends hand, and it's perfectly normal for once.

I won't fear the gunshot, I won't fear the taunting, the rocks being thrown.. I anxiously await gay pride so that I can feel okay because well, during those events.. Straight is minority.

I love gay pride in Sydney, though honestly, my time in Australia seemed very gay friendly compared to the US anyway.

I have mixed feelings about valentines day. I don't feel the need to dedicate a certain day to say 'I love you', more so than I do any other day. It also demands presents, dinners, special occasions. I can do these things any day of the week, any week of the year. Making a day to demand it more aggravates me because I may not always be financially capable to do so, at that particular time.

I live in a predominantly white community, and always have. The only problem I have ever had with a black person (trying not to sound racist) is when I opened a door for a lady (a common practice of my own regardless of race) and she screamed at me that she diddn't need any help from a white man.

I think everyone should take pride in their racial background and culture. No one should have to stifle it. When it gets out of hand is when the few still have the mindset that they are somehow repressed because of a history long past.
Ialie2005-02-08 16:39:35
Oh dear.. I have a feeling this topic will soon be shut down. Here is some news. Yes slavery is over, and out right discrimination is illegal, but there is still prejudice, and repression it is not long past.
Raan2005-02-08 16:45:37
Oh I dont doubt that, but it is on BOTH sides.

Ill be quiet now... Ialie is right, this one can way to easily get out of hand wink.gif
Nyla2005-02-08 17:01:07
People seem to forget that slavery didnt end until 1964 ish... my history is off. Its only been 41 years and many people who are still alive today lived through that and are goign to harbour some ill feelings. My grandma lived through the Holocaust stuff, and now she dyes her hair blond and has become unjewish. I say 1964ish cause that about the time when black people were considered actually people.

The problem with Black History month is that people seem to forget all that stuff March 1st.

OMG! I will pick you up in my Navigator sitting on 22s. and we can drink 40s and Alazaye. What What!
Ialie2005-02-08 17:06:34
What the hell is Alazaye?
Nyla2005-02-08 17:14:01
Its some kinda alcoholic beverage
Lunarisiil2005-02-08 18:26:54
I also live in a predominantly white area, I've not really had any interaction with black people. But I have to say, anyone who can make fun of themselves and life in general, and not take everything so damn seriously is okay in my book.

Yes, I'm an ignorant redneck girl. Educate me your way, not the way they expect me to believe on tv.
Shiri2005-02-08 18:32:33
I think the problem with things like this (I get the feeling this has been mentioned but I can't find it, maybe I'm just dozy...or lazy) is that some people get it into their heads that this is the only time they have to respect gays/blacks/whoevers. And then they go back to normal afterwards. I guess it's a nice reprieve for people like Merloch, though. (I just don't tell people, so whatever, I've never been singled out.)
Rauros2005-02-08 18:35:27
There are black people here!? blink.gif blink.gif

Seriously, I have no problem with February being Black History Month. It's just another month. I don't usually involve myself with anything more than Christmas and Mother's Day. So to all yous tripping on Febjewary, pass the doobie.
Nyla2005-02-08 18:46:42
Its not really the months itself. It's just the reactions of some people who want to amaze you with their knowledge of black history cause you are black, or the ones who feel the need to tell you they took African American studies in college. Do you want a cookie? Oh yeah then you get the really stupid people who ask "Why isnt there a Caucasian history month?" Those people need to be poked in the eyes.
Nyla2005-02-08 18:48:25
Oh yeah we need to smoke weed while I work on my rap album. It shall be titled "Bitches an Hoes" and you can dance in my video in a thong and wet tshirt.
