New Quests

Now that everyone is quest whoring for karma is it possible that there will be new quests made or are in the making for existing villages/cities/communes/planes/etc?

I don't like starting new topics, but oh well.

Examples:

* New Breeds of Animal for fishmongers/butchers to buy, perhaps on different planes.

* New quests that will only become available after completing a certain honours quest (Village or city/commune based). An example of this:

Erion greets Gumboliah Brooks

Gumboliah Brooks says, "Oh, Erion! The Mistress thanks you once again for solving the mystery, though I must say this is getting a bit too easy for you..."

Gumboliah Brooks furrows his brow in thought

Gumboliah Brooks says, "Ah! I hear there is a copycat villain on the loose, lurking in the others villages. However, I'm afraid we only have this one clue..."

Etc, etc. Randomize it maybe. It'd probably be difficult to deal with for players considering people get enemied to everywhere and anywhere during influencing, but maybe it'd make use of Diplomacy.

In the instance that it is a village controlled by an enemy city/commune perhaps a coded flag could be raised, preventing said character from attacking the denizens and guards of the village and of its protecting commune/city. The quest would be based upon the village it started in (so solving something in Estelbar from Stewartsville won't remove your flag until you return to the quest giver).

The said flag would also prevent means of teleportation to the player and summoning (Of the player and from the player) in order to stop it from being abused as a safe raid target. Like a boosted Divine Grace/Pacifism.

-------------------------------

Or (This is coming from my Final Fantasy 11 days) a fame system can be implemented to limit what new quests can be done by certain people, and in certain places (Not only villages). This, too, would also make use of Diplomacy and perhaps even add more to its use (Example: Your status would be in question when going through diplomacy or a similar unenemying process, such as parley, and within that time period it would be possible to increase your fame or respect in that particular village/area to the point where you’re unememied. If you’re unable to gain enough fame then it would be as if your diplomacy wore off and your status would be reinstated).

Slaying denizens in a village where you acquired fame would grant enemy status as before and would eliminate all previous fame/respect. (This would probably increase the roleplay when dealing with villages as well, although I suppose it would still be in character to think of them as toys.)

-----------------------------

This probably isn't too well written, and of course it hasn’t tapped fully into the plethora of options available, but it’s just something to consider. I’m sure people who decide to post following mine will add unto it their opinions/ideas/whines, but I think something along these lines would be good in general and help save those who enjoyed questing before this. It adds more depth than simply the fetch and grab of questing (Even though I put some of that in as well), and hopefully will make things more interesting.

General, not Public. tongue.gif Good idea though. I just think honours quests should be one-timers full stop though, really.

We'll see when the ingame polls're done.

That's not entirely true. Only those people who know about it hate Karma.

Ignorance is bliss, after all.

I like it quite a bit, but then again I've always been a bit mad.

Johnny the Homicidal Maniac?

We're always in the process of building new quests. One of the largest (in development since before closed beta) will have unlockable quests, but that's all I can give away now...

Would it be possible to find someone that buys sewer eels for like... 5 gold a piece? (or 5 gold for the small ones and 20 gold for the big ones)
Daganev2005-02-14 11:22:25
Oh sure, take away my food supply!
Drago2005-02-14 11:28:28
Phht, I give you steak.
Jalain2005-02-15 01:22:29
I always thought that butchers should take deer for venison (is that spelt right?)
Shiri2005-02-15 01:25:12
It's spelt right. And yes they should!

edit: I'm not sure if this falls under quest info or not, but the post use to say that there is somebody who does.

Thinking of new quests, my first idea was quests to harm villages, ones that would make them rebel sooner. Like one that collapses part of the mine in Southgard, or kills the cubs in Estelbar. Then I realised that quests that hurt organizations do not mix well with karma. Oh well. My next idea is a quest where astral critters randomly (and semi-rarely) drop objects that can be placed in the obelisks in each village, thus increasing thier production of every commodity. This would also give a decent way for the heavy bashers to get karma without having to do quests that lowbies rely on.
Daganev2005-02-15 02:34:56
oooh, I really like that idea. Astral node chunks that when put in a obelisk in a village gives power to all the workers allowing them to do amazing feats!
