A good idea!

I really, just don't like Karma. It rewards quest whores, and punishes PKers. Here's my suggestion.

Adopt the infamy system from Achaea. For you non-achaeans, it worked essentially like this. You made an attack, you gained infamy. You killed someone, you gained more infamy. You gained LESS (but still some) infamy on attacks made inside your city. It can be adjusted to not gain infamy on city enemies inside city territory.

I suggest this system be applied, and when someone is infamous (high infamy), killing them will NOT grant suspect. Simple. Meaning, Narsrim, Erion, etc will be always infamous, while some will never be. tongue.gif

As a side note, Infamy would show up in Honors.

If that was the case, you'd have to have some opposite, something for the non-PK'ers. Or they'd feel left out.
Rhysus2005-02-13 02:38:40
Uh. Why should Non-PKers care about a system designed solely for PKers?

I think he was being sarcastic.

I wouldn't feel left out at all. I'm for anything that makes it possible for me to quest again.

I'd greatly prefer Infamy to this Karma crap. mad.gif I don't mind being told I'm a bad person for protecting my city or villages, or getting power and such for it.

Getting slammed with a curse from a sore loser who jumps me and dies, does.

KARMA, go and explode.gif

Hear hear!

I don't have too much a problem with the karma system in principle. I know I'm just gonna use it to get beauty, knowledge, and some other blessings. I can see how it's biased towards peaceful questers, though. The problem with an infamy system, however, is that in stead of curbing pk (which I thought was the reason behind karma), it would just let everyone kill infamous people. In response, the infamous people would kill them, and the cycle would continue. Karma isn't perfect by far, but I don't see how an infamy system would really solve the problem of rampant pk
Nementh2005-02-13 17:40:42
ahh but then it wouldn't be random pk, problem of random pk solved.
Shiri2005-02-13 17:41:23
Well, if people kill the infamous people, they're obviously not bothered about being PKed back? If they do it on a highway or something.
Erion2005-02-13 20:03:27
Well, look at it this way. If you kill newbies, you get infamy. You become infamous, Tuek and Narsrim can now hunt you endlessly, repeatedly, and your infamy only decays w/ time (and maybe quests?). That's a good incentive right there not to be PKing.
Sekreh2005-02-13 22:17:18
The only problem with Infamy is that if you can kill everyone anyways it doesn't matter. Even if you can kill just most people, its like "Woo, everyone can attack me and I can easily send them to their untimely doom with no consequences whatsoever"

Maybe Infamy+Avenger?
