Power

Back to Common Grounds.

The way I understand it, Power (the stuff you get frem Nexi ) is meant to be an essential Basin commodity. I like this idea, don't get me wrong, but I think more could be done to make it more valuable.

Power at the moment is simply a really big number that goes down a little when you link to your Nexus. That's all.

...my brain just decided to die. I think you get what I mean. Any suggestions or comments on the value of Power and what we might do to make it a more interesting commodity?

I think the world environment has given players enough information to make power something more than just a number.

I do believe Rhysus's manse area would be a good way in game to develop those theories further and spread them to the cities and communes.

I strongly believe that once things settle down a bit (read: not now, please Estarra, now now!) there should be more power draining quests. Maybe not as painful as turning a Supernal/Demon Lord against the home city or the Spear of Nishtoba, but little ways to drain 2-10 power and make power use actually mean something. Never fast enough to overtake steady work in the elemental plane, but enough to make people think twice about expending large amounts of power. As-is, I think I have to side with the "number" theory of power.

Hmph. I -thought- I posted here but apparently I didn't. I meant to post, "Yeah, you're right, it's just like the Master Crystals, meaninglessly high."

I'd like to see each city/commune get a special ability associated with their nexus that can be given out via draining of powers. Something to the extent of the karma blessings, but at much less effect and drains a good bit of power. Something like 50 powers for +1 con for a RL day wouldn't be so bad, especially if you bash astral or bring in lots of powers for the nexus.
Shiri2005-02-14 19:46:45
Uhhh, actually...karma blessings being entirely commune/city power-based is a very very good idea. Should've thought of that. Would be fairly high though.

Make Marilynth drain power from Magnagora to Celest while raised.
Make Landantine drain power from Celest to Magnagora while raised.
Then those quests actually accomplish something (they're good to do anyway, I always do them, but it'd be nice if we got a "tangible" reward).

Add more smaller quests to take away power, like, I don't know... maybe being able to use essence to defile another city's nexus or something?

EDIT: Oh, and yes, I do know that having Marilynth raised stops Magnagora from doing their power quest, and vice versa for Landantine.

And give Serenwilde powers when we kill Crow!
Shiri2005-02-14 19:52:18
We already GET powers when we kill Crow. 5k of them.

We just went through a phase where people were getting burnt out because they were being forced to do power quests all day to not fall behind, and now people are posting that they want more power draining quests. I see why admin don't always take players seriously tongue.gif

I'm of the opinion at least that Lusternia took the hardcore route with players being able to hurt each other's organizations like everyone wants, and found out it doesn't work. Fun in theory, fun at first, but not in the long run.

Now, if there was only a certain time every couple IC years when you could drain lots of power...

No, not really. Landmarking had a large number of weird rules like 'you can't kill them if they're catching the butterflies, but if they're standing in the garden' or 'you can chase them for 3 minutes after they leave the shrine area'. It was those things that made landmarking lame, not the fact that it could only be done every couple years in aetolia.

But I liked Achaean landmarking...

Maybe if cities/communes had to actually protect their power too, from power devouring creatures that were giant leech-like and suck power from the nexus once a year. If the leeches sucked too much power, they could explode destroying the Nexus or something. Also maybe if every city/commune, the government at least, had special features that needed power to be generated... something like Serenwilde being able to make the trees move and attack at the cost of a power. tongue.gif

Edit: Guardians! I miss Mhaldorus or something like that. Maybe cities/communes after reaching a certain power limit could summon their own mega-guard.

Begone, freak!

The other problem with landmarking was that it was composed of 24 hours of inputting 'get lily;put lily in pack' 700 times/second. Probably not the most fun I've had in my life.
