I just thought of an interesting ability addition for combat.
What if for 5-10 power, you could SAVE and thusly redirect any mobiles that are attacking that person to hit you instead.
I got the idea when I took Ialie bashing recently. We walked into two fesixes, and they instantly killed her pretty much. Poor Faeling.
It'd be fun, it'd be useful, it'd serve a purpose other then PK, and it'd give Faelings a damned chance on Astral when bashing with a friend.
Oh, and perhaps make it not work on City guards.
Thoughts, ideas, comments?
Edit: And oh my god, I just vitae'd to fesixes AGAIN while postings this, just like I did two seconds ago posting in another thread...

Its an interesting idea, maybe not make it definite redirect, something like a variaiton on parry but you parry for another person and doing it moves the aggro to you from then on *shrug*

Its a good idea.
Alternatively, is there a way just to make sure aggressive mobiles hit the leader of any group? If you are standing at the head of a formation, I expect you are going to be the first one targetted by oncoming beasties. If this was the case, you would just have to be smart about who leads, and I think it would be easy to code too.
Edit: Or, maybe combine the two, and make that skill a flag that means you protect your entourage.

A definite redirect would be fine, as long as it costed a reasonable amount of power, say 8, and was fairly high in combat, so you couldn't do it all the time. If it was only a partial chance, might as well just target each mobile by their number till they are all hitting you.
Edit: It reminds me of the warrior RESCUE ability found in some of the more basic muds.

I believe Chivalry in the other IRE games have Defend that does something to that extent. It'd be interesting to have something like that here, especially for group fighting.

I think Defend works more that the mobiles will not change targets but you'll share the damage when one of you is attacked. Sort of a form of empathy.
Asarnil2005-02-14 18:25:14
Defend was for PvM combat? from what I remembered it was a dodgy PvP skill that nobody used because of how crap it was.
Terenas2005-02-14 19:04:55
Defend was broken for god know how long. But it doesn't work like empathy, it actually takes -all- the damage intended for the person you're defending. So it would be great for fighting big monsters, or in team fighting when you want to defend a mage with a demesne up. I think it's especially useful in Lusternia where knights are loaded with health with surge in team fighting with defend.

Yea, but I like the thought of it not working for PvP combat, just for PvM. You go on Astral, run into a group of 4 astral mobs, they go hostile on the little faeling with you, instead of you, so for 5-10 power, you divert all their attention to you, before they instantly kill the other person. Sounds reasonable, no?

If a person can't hang tough on Astral, don't bash Astral. Goddess knows how many times I died before I could finally stand alone on that accursed plane. I think the reason most denizens (aggressive ones) hit those following is to discourage power levelling others.
Defend in Achaea is awesome, now that it's been fixed. I'd like to see it added to the Combat Skill in regards to pvp.

Then your saying a faeling should never bash astral .. i dont know how much health you need to survive there but a faeling needs to be level 97 before they pass 3k health even which means bashing big things sooner or later since ive heard that influencing is only good till level 60 or so and even then its going to take a while with the reduction on experience
Laysus2005-02-19 14:09:16
With two other people, I can take astral easy. I can solo it too, but that's harder.
Daevos2005-02-25 01:07:01
It should be a Warrior skill not Combat.
