Apparently theres two honours quests in Newton caverns, a little zest for the newbies. So in I go, looking for them... and out I come, irritated beyond belief about my apparent inability to find them anywhere.
Question 1: If these quests are actually there, has anyone actually completed them?
I mean, if a hundred or more people have gone looking for them, at least one must have found them. And if no-one has found them, it doesn't look hopeful that I will.
Question 2: If someone has, how long did it take?
Time is of the essence, after all.
Question 3: If someone has found them, can I have the teensiest little hint where to start?
Go on. You know you want to! Please?

They are there. People have 'em in their honours.

Did 'em both.
Took me a couple hours.

They are more difficult then some of honor quests outside Newton!
I think they're too hard for novices, from what I've heard people were making additional characters or losing levels on purpose to figure them out and make them. I only remember that there's a lot of travelling between Lolliprin, caverns and battleground.

They're not that complicated, and now with those newbie hints you get when you pick up the relevant stuff or do relevant things, it's not really hard to figure things out. They're not easy, true, but that's mainly due to the amount of walking you need to do (unless you're smart and have means for faster travel) and having to get hold of all the quest items in good time. And a bit of luck, I suspect one or two of the item reset timers might still be a bit bugged.

I did manage to do the savior of the gnomes one, it can be done but it's a lot of walking and a bit of luck in figuring one part out. I got started on the fink one, but got stuck at one point and not sure where to go from there. Yeah they are rather challenging.

Yep, I did them both.
Basically, you start by doing GREET to every single unique npc you come across, read item and room descriptions (okay, few are needed, but you won't know till you read will you? *evilgrin*)
First step is to open the portals so you can head to the other 3 areas.
And last but not least, there are tons of quests in there, and slightly less than half of them form one honours quest if you link them up, slightly less than another half forms the other honours quest, and the odd quest that doesn't affect either honours quest. (If I'm making any sense here)
Oh, and it took me several characters and several levels per honours quest for the one I finally succeeded on. Have fun.
And remember that you can do stuff like push / pull / turn / etc

So the best time to try them is when there aren't ay other newbies around?

Most of the newbies there are bashing for gold and not really trying to do the quests. It only got obnoxious and annoying when I was needing chains or widgets, but I usually didn't have to wait too long for them.

Are the people on the hills in Lolliprin part of the honours quests?
Raan2005-02-14 20:12:36
completed the gnomes one twice in half an hour... just find someone to do it with and run the quest twice.
Lunarisiil2005-02-14 20:28:15
It was not half an hour. It was more like, 3.5 days. That's how long it took us to figure it out. Then, knowing how to do it, took about an hour.
Raan2005-02-14 21:58:12
Did not!!!!
Raan2005-02-14 21:58:39
I have a feeling im gunna be in the dog house... pun only slightly intended.
Lunarisiil2005-02-14 22:02:02
...I have a feeling that was directed at me, though I'm not sure why.
Raan2005-02-14 22:24:16
Neither am I... I just wanted to use the pun

Yes, the newbie honour quests were specifically meant to be hard for those newbies who really like a challenge to questing (as opposed to newbie areas that are just a cakewalk with no challenge). In other words, the Newton Honours was designed to not treat newbies as though they couldn't figure out complicated quests but rather to introduce a complicated quest and those who enjoy such puzzles would experience what other complicated quests in Lusternia might be like.
There's certainly no requirement to get the honours and those newbies who simply want to bash for xp and do simple quests should certainly be able to do so.
But for those curious, there are a total of 276 people who have completed the Newbie Honour quests.

Aye, i've done both. The first try, starting from scratch, took my about 5 hours for each one. Now that I know them all I can complete them in twenty minutes each on alts as long as no one kills the quest denizens.
Lunarisiil2005-02-14 23:34:52
People killing the quest denizens tends to be a problem. You have your item to give one, and they're dead, so you sit and wait, and when they repop, your item is gone. Go back to get the item, come back, they're dead again. It figures.
