Well...okay, so I'm not a mage anymore generally, but when I was, I was quite disappointed by the improved illusions power. 'cause, see, everyone has their different config colour setups, so there's really no point customising it, is there? So what I recommend is to be able to do improved illusions in like...citytell mode, or emotes mode. So that it's actually convincing. Right now it's only good for sparklies. (Okay, and sparklies are fun, but it would still be nicer for combat, eh?) And I guess it could be abused, but you've got a 1 in 14 (it's unlikely that anyone will be convinced by a grey one) chance anyway, so it won't be THAT different, it'd just be a nice touch...right?

Why must EVERYTHING be combat related....there is this little thing called RP.....I've even heard some people enjoy it....

Shiri2005-02-17 15:02:44
I'm not entirely sure why making things appear in red instead of blue is RP if it doesn't mean anything in the character's mind, but okayyy.
It's not really an aid to RP any more than normal illusions just by having it in different colours unless it's convincing, is it really? I mean, it's not as though the characters can tell the "A rat arrives from the west" is in different colours, is it?

Also..... the caster of the illusion sees the illusion, making it useless in combat.

I'm sure some smartie can do something that turns off the trigger it was about to activate for 0.01 seconds and flash the illusion and then turn it back on again.

Vesar2005-02-17 15:39:05
Same problem with programmed. Also, with the time delay on improved, unless you set up a complicated timer system (which will fire randomly depending on lag) it will be pretty hard to catch these at the right time.
Murphy's law (yes, Murphy, you have a law) states that the second you turn off your triggers, your enemy will somehow afflict you with 10+ afflictions and start to behead you.

Terenas2005-02-17 15:52:45
Or you know, you could tell your system to ignore messages that contains you in the afflicting illusion.

Richter2005-02-17 16:07:42
It shows your own? I remember back in Aetolia, when I cast illusions, it said something like "you perform your illusion". Never saw any of my own.
Shiri2005-02-17 16:09:31
It's like that for normal illusions, but for improved illusions you do see your own.
Richter2005-02-17 16:10:25
Perhaps that could be changed eventually, you don't want to have your own system go nuts to something.
Though I can see where an illusionist would see his own work... from a gameplay point of view...

I wouldn't use a timer, I'd instead wait for the illusion trigger text to appear once and ignore it, then start listening to it.
Richter2005-02-17 16:14:34
I don't see where that would help you too much...
And if we start talking about triggers going on and off, that just gets messy. As stated above, you -know- something's going to happen.

Good idea...
When you weave an illusion, you can trigger the illusion text on a temporary trigger to gag itself or ignore it...
So the trigger would go off once, gagging the illusion, and then delete itself.

Combat? Anyone one of you tried Phantom or Stars? Oh, you guys mean Illusion illusions, I get it. Like making them think they need another drink of love potion they don't need and stuff. Got it now.
Unknown2005-02-17 21:56:30
I wanna make it seem like a guy got a tell from someone. Thats not combat related, but It would be great not to mess up the color so easily.
Unknown2005-02-18 02:56:22
That was something I always wanted when I had Illusions in Closed Beta: color-matching illusions. It would add huge amounts of prank potential to be able to make it look like people were talking to you on CT, and it would make for enormous fun to watch the responses.

Yep, that is what I do.

Having the /n newline thing work in illusions would make using them so much easier too. Not that I have illusions anymore.

What do you mean? If you ingore all affliction messages with "you" in them you'll miss most of them, right?
Shiri2005-02-18 11:09:40
Nah, Vesar, he means ignoring message saying, "Vesar kicks you in the nuts" as opposed to "Terenas kicks you in the nuts." So you can safely conjure illusions of yourself slinging runes at people or whatever, and still see them, but not set off your own reflexes.
