Damn you all for acting female and then not being.
Olan2005-02-17 12:18:43
I just found out, like, yesterday.
Shiri2005-02-17 12:20:56
I'm going to go make an Idiots topic now. Shamarah, I feel your pain.
Unknown2005-02-17 13:33:43
People really shouldn't pick WOMAN names if they're going to play men. I don't think Shiri is that womanly, but Brona, Shamarah et al are pretty much woman names.
Shamarah just sounds effeminate, and Brona has A at the end. Female is A, Male is O. Valentina, Valentino. Brona, Brono. That's why the female Administrator in Aetolia, Alecto, is kind of weird.

Shamarah's not a woman's name either! It's a fine guy's name. Brona, I have a little less pity for () but still. It's just depressing when you hear the occasional "...wtf, Shiri's not a girl?" on a Guild/City/Commune/Order/Tell thing.
Torak2005-02-17 13:48:26
HAHAHA I remember when someone said on CT Shamarah was male..pure shock is the best way to describe the reaction
Sylphas2005-02-17 14:21:05
I've never had a problem realizing Brona was male (maybe it depends on how you pronounce it? With a long 'o' sound, it sounds plenty masculine to me, even with the a ending), but Shamarah is definitely a surprise. And I'm not sure why I never mistook Shiri, but I can easily see why you would.
Typhus2005-02-17 14:21:18
Hey, don't be picking on Shamarah about her, I mean his, name. I've had the same problem before, but I'm glad I double checked before speaking with her, I mean him. GAhhha!
Revan2005-02-17 22:06:02
Brona's easily picked out as a male... his constant foul mouthed curses over shouts and general angry-man temper point him out as a being with male body parts. Shamarah... he's silent, wispy and effeminate. One could say that Shamarah is a Shemale, in the most obligatory fashion.
Shamarah2005-02-17 23:21:06
I hate you all.

At least no guy proposed or asked you out yet, Shamarah.

Aw, man, I was on your side an' all. And Terenas, DON'T EVEN JOKE. O_O
Unknown2005-02-18 14:44:21
Don't look at me... I always thought that Shamarah was a guy's name. Really.
Brona on the other hand... that sounded female. Meh. So does Citera...
No offense to the pickers of said names.
Now Guido, that's a nice, manly name that ends in an O.

I would be surprised Shamarah (decided against getting confused with his/her and just stuck with the name) hasn't already been proposed to.
Shiri2005-02-18 14:52:23
Don't go that way, seriously.
Typhus2005-02-18 14:53:50
Eh? Personal experience?
Unknown2005-02-18 16:34:12
I have never thought of Brona's name being feminine in the least. I pronounce it 'Bro-nuh', so perhaps none of you simply know how to speak. *Sagenod*
Unknown2005-02-18 17:03:07
It's like a Scandinavian woman name, like Helga or Olga.
Sylphas2005-02-18 19:30:34
Those are known as feminine though. Had I never heard them, I'd think them men, most likely.
Could it be a basis people have in gendered languages? I'm sure if I spent more time learning French I'd pick up more assumptions than I have now. I'm not quite sure where mine come from, but they're only loosely based on things like ending letters.
