With a focused look, Ixion strikes at Murphy with a exquisitely crafted
draconic broadsword. Ixion strikes his left leg, striking a major artery which
splurts blood in all directions.

broadsword strikes into his flail, which deflects the blow easily.
With a deft move, Murphy retaliates with a quick swing of a tormented spectre
flail at Ixion. With an elegant stroke, Murphy strikes his left leg, knocking
him to the ground.

That was a haymaker, but the last two swings worked as parries of Murphy's parries instead of four straight up swings.
Shryke2005-03-08 05:04:59
is haymaker even worth the ten points to use it?
Drago2005-03-08 05:56:20
Apparently its too slow to use. I still say that, at 1k a hit to me, 4k damage will kill me. (You hadn't flexed when you whacked me)
Olan2005-03-08 08:04:24
I like how Ixion fell down halfway through and continued hitting
Ixion2005-03-08 08:49:52
Pure talent.
silimaur2005-03-08 09:32:56
haymaker needs a serious upgrade, it isnt worth the power and usually i do more damage with just two swings then with haymaker

That is statistically impossible. The miss/parry rate is no different for haymaker than normal swings.
celahir2005-03-08 12:45:52
No I do about 50- 150 more damage with a haymaker. As an aslaran its almost worthless.
silimaur2005-03-08 12:59:20
im igashen and my haymaker does alot less damage then my two swings normally or at least last time i checked
stagar2005-03-08 14:26:18
Did you check under the exact same conditions? Keep in mind that hitting me when I was ur'guard (Putre, fullplate, fullhelm, runes on both, trans resilience) is ALOT of defense, now, I believe you can hit me with a haymaker, and it would do not to bad for me..however...if you walk up to..say the exact same guy, but now he's wearing leather armour and has putre off...your two hits will do more then the haymaker...so I think the thing here is that a variable must have changed from the testing of haymaker as compared to a regular swing..but i'm no expert. *Points at Roark* He is, ask him

It's not, but considering that it is not targettable but hit any random body limbs, the chances of at least one out of 4 hits getting parried are high. Whereas you can target with pulp so it's merely a matter of determining where your opponent is parrying and pulping another limb. Furthermore, if one out of 4 hits have a very high chance of getting parried, on top of haymaker being slower than just merely two swings, why in the world does it cost 10 powers to use, compared to pulp's 8 powers? There are times when I've used haymaker and got two out of 4 swings parried, so why should I bother using haymaker when I could just double swing?

It is actually much higher because you can't pick your target area, so odds are quite high you're going to have some of them hit your foe's parry, stance, and shield. Two targetted swings or strikes that are chosen to avoid those areas will almost consistently do more damage, more deep wounds, and be more likely to get a crit. They're also a lot less likely to be riposted or couled back on you, so you not only do more damage to your foe, you do less damage to yourself.
I haven't actually timed the balance regain, but I suspect a haymaker takes longer to recover from than a normal double-strike, and of course it costs power. About all it's good for is if you know the foe is low and you're also low, and you're hoping to get lucky so you can get the killing blow faster than the opponent gets his.
Edit: Sorry, some of this is duplicative of what Terenas said, and I don't want to try to edit out the bits that aren't precisely.

we need an upgrade to haymaker..or just the power to do it lowered

Actually, what I wanted to be able to do is triple lunge for 10 powers. Considering that lunge bypasses parry + stance and 3 of them only costs 9 powers, it'd be much more useful than spending 10 powers on 4 swings that all have chances to be parried.
Richter2005-03-09 17:55:24
Yesh... triple lunge, double jump, and maybe a sword name Alastor. And some fire gauntlets. *twiddle*
I had wondered why haymaker cost 2 more power (pulp was reduced in closed beta from 10), but then I realized you had four changes to give afflictions, and four chances to poison someone. Of course it can be parried, but so can pulp. You don't know how many times I've had my eight power pulp parried. And I'm living off of old power from Magnagora, because I have to conserve.
You all have nexuses. Or nexi. Or... whatever.
