Melding Underwater

Pleeeeeease?

Yes, we can flood/taint/forest/whatever underwater rooms and put singular effects in them, but without a meld can't fuse runes, turn on watch, use certain effects (like Tsunami), can't summon/travel, etc. Plus, it's extremely annoying to have to set up all those effects in every room you visit. There's a lot of conflict that goes on underwater in the two seas, and oddly enough, Aquamancers are actually at a disadvantage underwater because we can't meld.

So let us meld!
Vix2005-02-20 22:09:57
Wow, I'm surprised you can't do it. I always assumed it was possible. Seems logical for it to be meldable.
Erion2005-02-20 22:12:11
I always thought Aquamancers could meld underwater rooms. I thought that was their huge advantage. It should so be.
Dumihru2005-02-20 22:12:29
It would make sense to be able to. Although allowing fused masochism runes underwater might open up a whole can of evil.
Shiri2005-02-20 22:13:43
I thought it would be one of those areas that can be melded for free, same as Hartstone in forests/Geos in Taint. blink.gif

Me too...

The warm shallows of the Inner Sea.
A dragon turtle rests here, an air of majesty on its features.
You see exits leading north, southeast, south, northwest, up, and down.

Look around. This is already flooded with water!

The nature of this room prevents you from melding it into your demesne.

The problem is in the reality of things. How can a geomancer do his stuff when there is no earth beneath him? (This is why tainted water surfaces have an island of earth rise up.) How can tsunami waves and needlerain exist when you are completely submerged? How can you be standing in the trees when you are really just floating in water, which negates the whole concept of elevation? I'd rather be able to open up the underwater for melding, but the skillsets just don't make any logical sense if they happened underwater. (And yes, I am aware of the indoor issue. That was an oversight.)

Icefloe makes perfect sense underwater.
Jellies makes perfect sense underwater.
Stillwater makes perfect sense underwater.
Healspring makes perfect sense underwater.
Sweetfount makes perfect sense underwater.
Whirlpool makes perfect sense underwater (provided that you assume it's held together magically).
Travel makes perfect sense underwater.
Currents makes more sense underwater than it does on land.
Needlerain, just make a new message having the water become hot around you briefly.
Tsunami, just make a new message having the currents shove you.
Summon, just change the message to have the water swirl around you and find yourself in another place.
Fusing, just have the fuse message be that you raise your hand with the rune in it and the rune vanishes in a flash of light rather than being pressed into the ground.
Typhoon is the only one that doesn't really make sense underwater, but it's useless there anyway as you can't fly.

I could even write the messages for you! biggrin.gif

What indoor thing?

But what would be the real killer is, your demesne would strip waterbreathe.
Unknown2005-02-21 01:35:05
Stillwater would be overpowered underwater. Same with needlerain.
Shamarah2005-02-21 01:40:00
Those two do work underwater already, just not in demesne form. I've used them before and not heard anyone complain. But it might be overpowered (I can't remember how much choking on water damage does and there's no way for me to test it on myself), so if it'd really be that overpowered, just make those two not work underwater.

In Achaea, it does close to 1000 damage a round to me.

Oh, it works well. I rather go underwater and just use stillwater, needlerain, icefloe, and jellies then use a full demesne on the surface. It also allows for some creative kills (i.e. illusion all of the exits closed but one leading up. Go up one, do the same to the exits but one leading down.) Good times, good memories....

And people called me crazy for questioning stone rain in doors.

And I guess when it comes down to it, Aquamancer -should- be powerful underwater... so why can't some creative changing of messages, etc. be done so such can happen?
Alger2005-02-21 08:15:23
because the people you are fighting underwater arent whinners tongue.gif Honestly fighting you guys on water is crazy... but id have to admit its suppose to be where you're stronger in. No need to make it any stronger though.

Choking underwater while fighting isnt fun especially if you're getting stunned, paraed and cant get that rub. Even on the surface if you dont have threading added damage does hurt (maybe also because you guys use my vulnerability so i notice it a lot.)
Unknown2005-02-22 02:50:11
I don't get how fighting underwater works at all. I mean, have you ever tried to swing a weapon while fully submerged? It would be /very/ hard to hurt anyone. If we're going for realism, warriors should have at least permanent aeon underwater.

swing narsrim
You attempt to strike at Narsrim, your movements slowed by the water.

Then a few seconds later you hit. Actually, have it do that for every underwater action that requires balance/equilibrium.
celahir2005-02-22 13:22:40
How about letting Aquamancers meld with any underwater room then with any naturally tainted room geomancers can always meld with?
Shiri2005-02-22 16:55:55
It's already like that for Geos. They can always meld with Tainted things, Hartstone can meld with forests (not Glomdoring though, so it pretty much only extends to their home commune), and Aquamancers can meld with the -surface- of water.
Rhysus2005-02-22 17:02:03
I've always felt kind of cheated by that. There's not a whole lot of point to be on the surface of almost any waterway in the realm, so the only place it helps us that we can meld on existing water is the Elemental Plane of Water, which there's still not a lot of point to anymore.
