Why are there no books, tomes, journals to be had other than the ones that are given during the intro that always reset to the owner? Why must an organization resort to preserving letters to form some semblance of a library? Ghelps are nice and everything, but Ghelp index just grows and grows and grows until it’s a big blur of file after file. There are many things that an organization may want to put in a tome or journal, but yet, in Lusternia there is no way to do so.

I'll add my plea to this.

We aren't allowing books until our book/library system is fully coded, which unfortunately may take some time as it's not high on our priority list.
Rhysus2005-02-21 17:55:51
Please make it higher? It's holding up so much potential roleplay...

Here's to hoping Glomdoring is higher on the priority list.
Then we can fill the Black Tower's library with inane scribbles and archaic how-to torture guides.

Gloriana should take precedence over all of course.
Roark2005-02-21 18:53:23
I think it's being done by Aeyr. (He does stuff for all the games, not just Achaea.) Thus it is not in our hands.
Rhysus2005-02-21 19:44:28
Erm, how is it that one game can already have fully functional (and really very good, from my PoV) library code, yet the others (or Lusternia at least) are waiting on some general IRE code?

If there ever are books and things implemented in Lusternia, there should also be a BURN BOOK command in environment. Strange thing is, that some places already have things resembling a library... I think the Serenguard Lodge does. How about your personal journals? You could write whatever you want in there and "publish" it, or can't you acquire any new journals?
Edit: Contract scribes (people with their own journal), give them the text you want to be written. Scribe posts it in journal, and gives journal to you for your library.
Edit: Oh, one thing that would be great to see is the journal customization thing implemented in Lusternia, similar to the journal customization in Arcadia (Achaea), with more options. That was great.

Journals reset to their owners.
Desdemona2005-02-21 19:52:12
They do? They shouldn't...
Maybe there could be somekind of sigil that prevents journals from reseting. Then my idea would be viable, to some extent at least.

I really wasn't going to tell people that we're waiting on an IRE update, Roark. But, yes, some things are out of our control.
In any event, the "fully functional" library in another IRE game does not mean we couldn't do it either. However, there are coding issues where we prefer to wait for the IRE update.
Ok, just because I KNOW you're going to pester me over this which is why I wasn't going to get into it, I'll tell you that the coding issue has to do with database systems. Yes, we could do something else similar to what other realms do but frankly it'd be an inefficient waste of our time to implement something then have to re-code it later and/or worry about conversion issues.
