Okay.. I was listening to the news on the radio yesterday and they said that John Howard is breaking an election promiss (Who didn't see that coming?) not to send in more troops... Well, that's one thing.. but it's not the thing I find odd..

Does anyone else find it... Strange, that Australia was in Vietnam, fighting the Communists, all buddy buddy with America.. "Down with Communism," and all that crap.. And now, we're sending in 400+ Australians to protect Communists in Iraq?

Okay, just to clear up.. I have no problem with Communism... In theory. I'm not saying the Chinese shouldn't be protected or anything.. I just really hate hyporcritical things... Yeah..
Drago2005-02-22 23:43:06
Ok, I'll just clarify what my stance on John Howard will always be.

John Howard = censor.gif Moron.

I can clear it up even more:
Australian Liberal Party = Group of censor.gif Morons.
Australian Labor Party = Unfortunatly, also a Group of censor.gif Morons.
The Party for the Legalisation of Marijuana (which I've most likely spelt wrong) = Complete and utter Class. They managed to pull in 1% of the total vote in Australia happy.gif

Anyway, with the Liberals having Senate control and House of Reps, Australia is going to have a censor.gif up 4 years.

Communism is teh suck. I would say "Down with Communism", but it's already down.

I have to agree with that. I voted green 1 and Labor 2. Gods, I just wish there was a third party who actually stood a chance. Want to start a political party, Drago? I've actually put a bit of thought into doing that.

Heh.. I wonder if their themesong is by Lazyboy.. "Why is Marijuana not legal, why is marijuana not legal? It's a natural plant that grows in the dirt. You know what's not natural? Eighty year old guys with hard ons, but we're putting all out medical research into keeping the old guys erect."
Shiri2005-02-22 23:47:04
You spelt it right, Drago, but I thought that was a Canadian party! :/
Drago2005-02-22 23:52:27
Gwynn would love to start a political party.. or was it join the liberals? *chin*

I was thinking about going into local politics but then I remembered that I hate public speaking dry.gif Though I still think its one of those things you have to do at least once in your life.. like breathing fire, or bungee jumping.

We'll see I guess. If you make a party that I share opinions with though, count me in.
Jalain2005-02-22 23:55:43
I would be in politics but wouldn't be a politician.. I would never appologize for calling John Howard, Bush's censor.gif licker.
:Sigh: Mark Lathem had such potential.. if only he'd not screwed up so much and called John Howard a few more things... Oh, and he should have broken Cockroach Eyebrow's hand when he had the chance to.
Drago2005-02-23 00:03:43
Latham was fairly cool, its unfortunate the public didn't like labor as much though.

My favourite joke was that John Howard was hiding WMDs in his eyebrows happy.gif

That's my point.. That is an idiotic way to run a country. When you vote for a party, you're voting to go along with ALL of their choice for the next four years. Every person who voted Liberal, National, One Nation, Family First, or for Pauline Hanson, voted for sending in more troops to Iraq, and voted for EVERY choice that the Liberals are going to force on us until the next election.
They may not agree with the choice, but they voted for the party, or person who would directly lead to John Howard remaining PM, or lead to votes trickling down to National and Liberal, so they are all at fault.

So, then we come to my idea. Basically, it would be a party of independants, and if one of the people were elected into office, there would be an office in each town in that electorate with computers, where people can vote on up coming motions to the Parliament. So, the Member of Parliament (Or even the senate.. Who knows?) would vote the way the majority of his/her electorate wants him/her to vote.

I just find the way politics works as disturbing, and there HAS to be a third, fourth or fifth party to make sure that the Liberals/Nationals, nor Labour gets total control of either house.. So, yeah.. There's my plan to reform the Australian Parliament.. And by the gods, it'll work, because Australians can't really be this stupid... can they?
Drago2005-02-23 00:35:46
John Howard won a fourth? term in office, after making a lot of mistakes and big screwups in public..

I guess that answer's your question. Its unfortunate that people forget the previous four years when it comes to elections and base their vote on the last two weeks.
Jalain2005-02-23 01:50:42
I just want to strangle every single person who voted Liberal because of the "If Labour gets Gov't, interest rates will rise."
Well, WTF is happening now?!
Daganev2005-02-23 01:56:17
When did Iraq become communist?

I'm a bit confused.
Daganev2005-02-23 01:57:44
Also, since you guys still swear loyalty to the queen... yeah..
Drago2005-02-23 02:06:32
We do?

Coulda fooled me. I've never sworn loyalty to any monarch.
Daganev2005-02-23 02:13:06
A few years ago Australia took a vote to officially suceed from England and not be under the queen. The vote did not pass. I think this was in 99 or 00
Drago2005-02-23 02:16:50
That just means we're still a part of the Commonwealth and have another Sports event which we dominate in.
Unknown2005-02-23 02:36:21
Welcome to the United States, where an idiot can screw up for four years, and then all is forgiven in a matter of months.

Doesn't really have any affect on our Parliament or political system in an practical way.
Daganev2005-02-23 02:42:44
Forgiven?

Apparently your not hearing the same remarks about Carter as I am. And I wasn't even alive when he was presidant.

Pratical is an intersting term. Although I know what you mean, the orignial post seemed to be talking about some sort of historical hypocrosy which has to do more with ideals than praticality.
