The ties that bind

Back to The Polling Place.

I'm formerly from Serenwilde, and still retain my skills from there, Murphy is Magnagoran, and Aris is a Celestian. We have our differences, but maintain a family.

Some people have started to dispute this... Is this -really- bad RP? *boggle*
Ceres2005-02-23 07:45:11
Can't help what your family does!
Ialie2005-02-23 07:50:42

Yeah, think of all the people who hate their family biggrin.gif
Manjanaia2005-02-23 17:57:47
Not at all I think it could make for great RP. A nice big messy family dispute.
Richter2005-02-23 18:01:48
Yep.

We're all different enough, especially with Aris being the younger, irritating brother.

But look! He ran off again after last night's happenings.
Desdemona2005-02-23 18:28:49
Yeah, family trouble always is great. You can feud with your brothers, disown another brother and all that.
Richter2005-02-23 18:42:51
We're too tight to disown each other.

The issue here was people said it was bad RP when Aris went to fight Narsrim with us. Narsrim was trying to get Aris kicked out of the order for "helping the taint".

I'm about to help my foot to his rear. We're brothers, its not "helping the taint". The taint isn't even a person.

Anyone hear Richter's agonized scream about not being an ally to the taint? Yeah... he was irritated.
Desdemona2005-02-23 19:21:35
I see no problem with those kind of issues: family protection. I think that the only thing wrong with family ties is when a family member (from a place) completely favors a place simply because a kinfolk is from there/lives there, instead of favoring only said kinfolk. Yet, even so it is still valid RP, but it is obnoxious.

Though to some blood is the tie that lasts till the end of time, you can easily take this concept in-game and make it valid. Kill someone for a family, steal for someone for your family, etc.
Singollo2005-02-23 19:30:18
Everything is bad Rp, and everything is OOC.
Nyla2005-02-23 19:34:13
How about this Richter. I'll trade you a Munsia and a Pent for Murphy
Unknown2005-02-23 20:02:29
So there you have it.

Not everything revolves around LIGHTVSTAINTKILLKILLROAR

Eldanien2005-02-23 20:11:03
I voted 'yes' because I don't have that much faith that every party involved can maintain the RP. Or at least, the semblence of RP, which is almost as important. Sorry, I'm naturally cynical about some things.

If we pursue the RP, I would expect the Paladins to kick out Aris for aiding a Magnagoran in defending a known supporter of the taint in conflict against a (mostly neutral) Serenwilde. Blood is thicker than water, but so are Paladin oaths I would think.

I suppose, to put it another way, where's the brotherly hate?
Desdemona2005-02-23 20:31:48
You can blame a person for protecting their brother from an opposite band of treason. That is part of the rp family. Others don't have to approve of your actions and can question your loyalty to them... but what, to some family through thick and thin? To others it is more like Cain v Abel. Families in-game can promote as many diverse situations as irl family ties. Whatever the case, what makes family a better source of rp, is how they deal with their family loyalty constantly being influenced by their other loyalties/duties.
Richter2005-02-23 21:01:49
We're not going to RP disliking each other because a bunch of (namecalling) want us to.

Also, I didn't ask if you thought we could pull it off, I asked if it was bad RP.

Lightvstaintkillkillkill.

Yes... the game is coming down to this.
Silvanus2005-02-23 21:11:09
I voted yes, not because you are all from different cities, but because all of you are different race from different cities.
Unknown2005-02-23 21:16:27
Yeah, the 'Light vs. Taint' bull censor.gif is what really has driven me away from Lusternia. The same old crap ruins yet another promising MUD.

I forget the exact quote yesternight, but I believe it was Ceadoc shouting about worshipping the taint.

Ask Rexali sometime: does he worship the taint? No.

Does he strive to further the taint? No.

The taint is a tool. An inanimate object. No more important than water. Just, as a Viscanti, it's somewhat more important than water.

A merian will need to coat its skin from time to time to keep from drying out, sunburn, ouch. A Viscanti needs taint to maintain its life of ease.

Richter's Edit: Again, someone I agree with, but I must censor you! Sorry.
Unknown2005-02-23 21:18:12
I voted no cause Richters good at RP, so we should trust him not to screw this up.

EDIT: I Did vote no, just didn't write this when i voted.
Unknown2005-02-23 21:20:02
You should have voted no, that it 'isn't' bad RP wink.gif
Richter2005-02-23 21:23:57
The Carthan family is by adoption, as Richter had some kind of a past family that he's forgotten about due to the portal of fate. He likely has a daughter running around somewhere from his life before the portal, and might find her, but he won't ever find any kind of an old wife. He met Aris, they bloodbonded, and accepted Murphy into the Carthans. The adoption process and wholehearted acceptance of his family members stems from the fact that he cannot remember any other kind of family, and so, as evil as he is, he's attatched himself to these two "brothers".

Much like his relationship with Nepthysia (a viscanti), which lasted several years, he was seeking something to fill the hole he doesn't really know he has, and he wants more out of life. Also, being human, he feels that he's more accepting of people, and less predjudiced as say, a merian vs. a viscanti, or even male vs. female. Richter is the middle ground, the leader of organizations with people from all walks of life in them, and as much as he's a leader, he needs to be led.

Or... didn't you know that?
