Back to The Real World.

You go to the bookstore, and you pick up a book from the shelf.

You check out the back cover, read the blurb, open the book, read a few pages, and go slap your money down, and buy it.

You go home, lay down, start reading, and devour the book, however long it takes you to finish.

What is this book? (it can be a real book, or something not yet published. What draws you into the story so much that the exterior world is put on hold?)

Many Waters or Jane Eyre

Harry Potter (6 soon *scream!*) or the Shopaholic series.

Or any book that contains a detailed world of fantasy and adventure.

Also, chances are it has beautiful artwork on its soft cover, and I also prefer the types of covers that almost feel powdery yet smooth when you touch them. I'm very specific when I pick out books, and will search for different version of it until I find that sort of cover.

I also avoid really small times new roman-esque fonts inside books.

Settling Accounts: Return Engagement's sequel (name not known).

Any new book from R.A. Salvatore, just because I'm a fan of his ongoing series.

Big fantasy world, lots of stuff going on, etc.

And Veonira, we have so much in common now! *flutter*

Also once I start reading a book, I love anything that has good character development, pays attention to the emotions of the characters and has good descriptions that allow my imagination to run free. I adore stories that have love as a side plot as well.

Mmm, hugging smileys...

On the subject of nice covers, has anyone seen the wierd translucent cover to the Voyage of the Jerle Shannara: Ilse Witch? That was -the- most amazing cover I've ever seen. Beautiful hardback, but the cover was see-through, kind of frosty.
Silvanus2005-02-23 21:56:14
Harry Potter is crap, stop hijacking about it.

Harry Turtledove's books are amazing.
Richter2005-02-23 21:58:17
Lies!

And who's this Hairy Dragonturtlethingy guy?
Silvanus2005-02-23 21:59:35
The best Alternate history writer.

Half Blood Prince (HP6) or the next Feist book after.. Is it Silver Talon?
*goes to look at the Feist site*

Ahah! Talon of the Silver Hawk.

It's getting closer and closer to the time the IRE game is going to intercept the books. I wonder if Feist will be able to bring out a few more in the Concalve Series before Sarapis and the LOTR MUD guy get finished..

Oooh, looking at Crydee.com, it seems that there are two new ones coming soon, and a rewrite of Prince of the Blood.. Or maybe it's just Prince of the Blood with a new cover..

Any book I'm willing to buy will suck me up fro the next 3 weekends.

Anyway, yeah, Harry Potter's pretty good. A nice, quick read.

Anyway, the best series of books ever is, as i've said in the past, the Dark Tower. The cover to the last book is, by the way, OMG WTF AWESOME, as well as the rest of the art in the book. Included is the picture that basically defines how I picture Fain:

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince!

And I like anything with an interesting sounding plot really. Like, the last book I got from the library was a story of the end of the world written by the only survivor in a series of journal entries. Sounded interesting. It's called Dead Romance, but I can't remember the author right now.
Gaetele2005-02-23 23:53:25
The Dark Tower
The Da Vinci Code
Harry Potter Series

... s'all I can think of for now.
Jalain2005-02-24 00:05:15
This is gonna sound geeky.. probably.. But are any of you Harry Potter people addicted? And do you read fanfic?

*grabs the wheel and hijacks this sucker!*
