The first in a series of polls to see who the worst of the worst are among our beloved moderators! Please try to provide sufficient rationale for your vote when casting, and legitimize your complaints with suggestions for improvement so this doesn't get locked or deleted!
I'm voting for Shiri this round. Shiri, lighten up! We all think you contribute mightily to the forums (unavoidably so) but come now, trying to get rid of the word ?? For shame, Shiri. For shame.
Let the people have their vocabulary! It isn't hurting anyone to see the word , and if I were ever punished for using it in Lusternia, I'd personally go find Spirokai and see what kind of trouble he could brew for all you PC psychos out there.
EDIT: Watch your language. ~Shiri~
Spastic!

Y'know, I actually use the word quite heavily in normal conversation, as well as the other swear words that're being moderated, though I like to not overuse them. Personally, I don't really care about swearing. I find the whole concept of swearing rather silly, actually. There's no reason I can find why c- or s- should be more "bad language" than "faeces." Nor can I find a reason why f- is any worse than "copulate." Nonetheless, part of being a moderator is censoring bad language. C- is bad language, therefore I have to censor it. IF I'm told to only conform with AMERICAN bad language, then I'll stop censoring it. Since I haven't been told to only conform with American bad language, I'm not going to stop censoring it.
Silvanus2005-02-27 16:42:32
Shiri, I don't see you running a search for those 425 uses of the word and censoring them out. Get to work! You might not make it.

I voted Daganev as bias is worse then silliness.

These polls are stupid and offensive to the mods. What's the point? If you want to make your pitch to become a moderater or el'supreme of zee forum boards, contact the head people in charge. Gah.
Rhysus2005-02-27 16:51:39
I have no desire whatsoever to be a moderator. I'm too opinionated. However, it's important to me to see the moderators do a good job. I do not feel that is being done overall. So, hopefully, seeing their faults will help the moderators adjust to better serve the community.
Shiri2005-02-27 16:52:58
If there's a fault, it's a fault with the rules. *shrug* I personally don't see censoring out bad language as a bad thing, if so desired. The concept seems silly to me, but I'm not going to complain, since it's the forum owner's every right to dictate what language is and is not allowed on it.
Silvanus2005-02-27 16:53:29
? Damn? Hell? ? on a stick? Damned in hell?
Rhysus2005-02-27 16:55:43
Shiri, did Estarra et al give you a list of words to filter out, or are you arbitrarily deciding that is a word that need not be uttered?

Shiri2005-02-27 16:57:04
There was no list of language that needs to be filtered, no. "Bad language" is what I was told to censor out, so bad language is what I shall censor out.

Then my opinion stands. It isn't a fault with the rules, it's a fault with your overbearing interpretation of them.
Unknown2005-02-27 17:00:38
I voted shiri. For the reasons stated many times above.
Honestly, the mods shouldn't be the people who can flood the boards the most, but the people who would make good mods...
No comment on richter and Daganev, but I think Elryns doing a great job at mod. Mmmyes.

Shiri2005-02-27 17:01:55
That doesn't follow, because then it would just be an "overbearing interpretation" of the rules were I to censor out any other language. And then the whole rule would be pointless. What am I supposed to do, spare language that's acceptable in America even if it's swearing elsewhere? The whole thing's arbitrarily defined, and I'm not sure why you think you're any more qualified than me to determine what is and is not culturally unacceptable language.

I'm not using American cultural standards. I'm using IRE standards. On those, I'm relatively well versed. Been keeping up on them for passing six years now. Have they changed some over the years? Sure. Go check out Public Post 114 in Achaea. Something of that nature would probably get you reamed in Lusternia nowadays, and wouldn't THAT be ironic. But language rules have pretty much been entirely static. Hell, damn, crap, no big deal. At all. So to moderate them here, by your arbitrary standards, is defying years of precedant in the face of some poorly orchestrated campaign to come off as a vigilant watchdog.
Summer2005-02-27 17:09:26
Makes you wonder why on earth the mods are agreeing to do this free. And you forgot the "none" option.
Shiri2005-02-27 17:13:41
As I haven't been following IRE for 6 years, I can't verify that. I can only use the arbitrary (they're arbitrary, as ALL these things are arbitrary - unless you can tell me why s- is a worse word to use than faeces or something, and I'm very curious) British cultural standards I've been brought up with. If I'm told not to use those, I won't.
