Well, it appears Aris has left me... I was trying to figure out how to break the bond and re-bond...
3052h, 2860m, 2820e, 10p, 14160en, 13200w elrx-bloodbond break
You do not have a bloodbond.
3052h, 2860m, 2820e, 10p, 14160en, 13200w elrx-reject aris
You reject the friendship of Aris.
3052h, 2860m, 2820e, 10p, 14160en, 13200w lrx-
You have recovered equilibrium.
3052h, 2860m, 2820e, 10p, 14160en, 13200w elrx-mutter
You mutter discontentedly.
3052h, 2860m, 2820e, 10p, 14160en, 13200w elrx-family reject aris
Syntax: FAMILY REJECT
Note: You cannot reject your parents or child after the consideration period.
3052h, 2860m, 2820e, 10p, 14160en, 13200w elrx-say it might boot me from the family
You say, "It might boot me from the family."
3052h, 2860m, 2820e, 10p, 14160en, 13200w elrx-
If I reject family, i'm thinking Aris will be a true Carthan, and if he does it, I'll be the only one, and not able to bond to Murphy.
Is there any way to break with Aris and bond with Murphy?

You don't HAVE to break with Aris. Accept the fact I have moved on until a facet of the game opens up that isn't controlled by morons, and wait patiently for my artifact filled return.
Richter2005-03-05 06:59:55
Riiiiiight. Come back nooow. I need to start a family, and can't have only one person pumping 'em out... We have three Carthan brothers anyway, I'd be switching the bond with one.
Or you know, you could just come back.
Or you know, you could just come back.
Singollo2005-03-05 07:02:34
I say we do what we do best and moan and complain until they let us bond to at the minimum three siblings. Is a four member generation of a family so outrageous?
Richter2005-03-05 07:03:28
To start it? Yes, sadly. Think of how easy a great house would be.
Singollo2005-03-05 07:05:28
And if they're worried about these fabled greathouses (Though it shouldn't be a problem if they incorporate "gestation" periods), increase the size needed. Its just a plain pain in the ass with siblings right now.
Richter2005-03-05 07:06:49
Yeah, I know I'm irritated.
Aebrin2005-03-05 09:44:05
Yes! Make us be able to bond with more people!
Because bonding is good!
And all the people rejoice at the increase of bondage!

Niara2005-03-05 13:17:25
Uhm..should I say that I love bondage? Hmm, maybe better I don't.
Amaru2005-03-05 13:19:58
I wish you could be engaged and bloodbonded at the same time. It's inconvenient the way it is, and I don't see the reason..
Shiri2005-03-05 14:01:47
DANG RIGHT Singollo. Although I'm still holding out for 9. At least for races like...Furrikin! Anyway. *makes ya go find his old poll if you didn't already*
Manjanaia2005-03-05 16:03:07
Yeah we need to be able to bond to more than one person. Maybe to 2 people, or 3. There's me and Aebrin, and I reckon we need a sane brother to balance it out.
Singollo2005-03-05 18:50:43
What I find interesting is that none of the developers have spoken on the subject that I can find. It seems like a simple, and very popular solution, but then again, it might be strongly coded for only a bond between two people in the original generation. However, I'm sure we'd all like an explanation behind the current reasoning.

Family code is actually one of our most difficult codes to update. So, while we could pull all our resources to sorting some things out, that would slow development on all our other projects to a crawl. To point out a few examples:
It is impossible to be engaged while bloodblonded without a current rewrite of the code.
Also, it is also impossible to have more than one sibling at the root generation without a significant rework of the code. If you want multiple siblings, what's wrong with finding your parents first?
While I know players rarely, and probably shouldn't, give any consideration to how difficult the coding side is, I hope you'll understand why some things just can't be given the priority you may like because of coding issues. There are other projects we are in the middle of which we just can't drop (nor do I imagine you'd want us to drop) just to do some things like rework the family code.

Silvanus2005-03-06 00:22:20
Well.. see.. the first generation, is really shafted on the bloodbonding thing. Since, you had to be 16 years old to begin, and your parent had to be 29 years old before. So, it is very rare for the first generation to have a parent, and we can't bond with more then one person. No hope for a bigger family with more brothers and sisters.
Shiri2005-03-06 00:27:51
That's fine, Estarra, it's just depressing how the issue seems to have been overlooked - and if you could just confirm that changing it WAS in consideration, even a tiny minor one, I know it'd take the strain off at least my mind. If it was going to be changed sometime in the future, I'd be able to rest easy. (Hey, it's not like it's urgent.)

That's pretty much what I suspected. As for the parents bit. There aren't a lot of people older than 35. That's not to say that there aren't people who can parent someone such as myself (24 years old), I've seen 40 year olds, but that's still requiring them to have been 16 when they fostered me, which is still quite young. This leaves parenting choices kind of slim. I personally feel that the bloodbond program wasn't built around a lot of foresight for such an early installment (The most notable families forged in Achaea were started by on the usual 3 members or more), and hope that it is changed sometime in the not so distant future.
Aebrin2005-03-06 06:30:00
Heh just a little side note, I seem to hold no relation to my brother (Manjanaia).
Richter2005-03-06 07:24:24
Still trying to figure out the answer to the original problem...
Eldanien2005-03-06 07:25:34
I would consider this one of the major limiting issues of the current code-supported RP.
Please, please put effort into changing this, even at the expense of other development. Or set a date sometime in the future so that, at that time, those who have had to have unofficial siblings can consider them like parents, but instead take them on siblings rather than children. IE, two siblings considering another sibling much like a married couple considers children.
