Tip of the day: DO NOT LET PARENTS NEAR COMPUTERS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
My mum, who recently got an award for being a great ICT teacher (this is in primary school, mind you, so it basically involved turning on a computer and opening MS Word) recently broke the internet. The reason? "Well, how was I supposed to know we still needed the modem to get on the internet?"
And just now, she's come up from downstairs to tell me that she's had to format the hard drive because a blue screen of death appeared.
WHAT THE HECK.
I don't know much about computers. I'll grant that. But these people REALLY shouldn't be messing around with them (and subsequently losing me >30 gigs of anime, which I now can't download because NOT ONLY have half the torrents vanished on account of licensing and so forth, but we now have a freaking 500 MB/week download limit, which is totally ridiculous) if they have no clue what's going on. I mean, seriously. Now I'm just PO'd. So DO NOT trust people when they say they know about computers.
Blast it all.

Shiri, his mom and his sister.
*drool* David Faustino...
Shiri2005-03-06 13:39:57
...huh? My sisters have nothing to do with it.
EDIT: Oh. The picture wasn't even showing up at all. Now it's showing up with a X thing.

And this, boys and girls, is why we store anime on CDs when possible. Or just spread it over three computers and five harddrives just in case *duck*
But seriously, blech. What did you lose? I might have some of it...

FMA (the little of it I had), Witchhunter Robin, Naruto, Bleach, a tiny bit of Rah Xephon, and some odds and ends I won't miss.
And I don't have a CD Burner. And only two computers, one of which is full of phantom disk space, and one of which is the one I was using. Meh.

I'll have you know one Lusternian coder didn't know that in dos(a long time ago) FORMAT doesn't accually take arguments after it. So when he did FORMAT A: thinking it would format his disk, it infact was formating C: He then ofcourse flipped out and turned off the computer in the middle of it.......well he was maybe 7 years old at the time.
Shiri2005-03-06 14:20:58
...ouch. :/ But come on, this is a 40+ year old ICT teacher! Supposedly. I hate to think what kinda education those poor kids're getting.

Isn't this one of the justifiable reasons to divorce your parents?
Shiri2005-03-06 15:18:34
You mean disown, right? And I wonder.
Veonira2005-03-06 15:22:40
My parents actually know more about computers than I do. My dad was in higher education computer sales (although he still types with two fingers and it pisses the hell out of me!), and my mom was a programmer (Well, that was in like..the 60s for NASA or something). But point being, they keep up on things and know how to do more complicated things and troubleshoot. So whenever something goes haywire on my computer I just go.."Moom...Daaaad...my computer broke!" and they fix it .
Shiri2005-03-06 15:36:00
I wish mine could do that. My dad can't even turn one on, and my mum...well, you just heard. And yeah, people who type with two fingers are funny. EXCEPT when they insist on typing a message themselves rather than dictating it and having you do it twenty times faster. Control freaks.
Manjanaia2005-03-06 15:37:43
Mum- C...............................................................A..............................................................T Wahoo I did it!!
Me- Wanna let me do it
Mum- No no I'm going fast now!
Me- er, no, you're not
Mum- *points finger* no pocket money for you

I'll have all of you cheap pricks know, I type with three fingers. And I type about 96 words a minute.
So bugger off.
So bugger off.
Shiri2005-03-06 22:02:51
Yeah, okay, so you can. But SOME PEOPLE CAN'T. And they're the annoying ones. *nod us*
Vix2005-03-06 23:12:19
Ouch. Um, convince your parents to get cable/DSL?
Shiri2005-03-06 23:14:59
We HAVE DSL. (Although our house is lame so I get like 30kbp/s connection speed in my room, the downstairs PC has more like 550, but NOW there's a 500MB limit! >_<)

That's incredible. 500MB?! A month?! It's barely enough for what, occasional e-mail??? (Or playing some internet text game..? )
Shiri2005-03-06 23:29:35
500MB a week, so it's not ALL that bad.
That's still freaking low though.

One thing my mom does that bugs me is how she looks over everything slowly. It's like..*open menu*..*drag mouse over every single option*
Daganev2005-03-06 23:47:50
anyone thought of the possiblity that the mother is using ignorance to hide the real plan of regulating internet and computer usage?
