I don't know if this topic has been posted.
I don't know if this idea has been posted.
I don't care.

When so-called newbies (I'm suspicious of how innocent they are), create new characters, and harvest all the herbs, then suddenly disappear forever and someone recieves a couple thousand herbs, that is just bad RP.

A way to stop this is to somehow prevent novices from gathering herbs, until they reach novicehood. The wait will at least deter most of these offenders (I know it is very hard to graduate from Hartstone early).

I don't claim this as the best solution, but damn, I need my health vials.

I beleive the reason the Trade skills like Harvest/Posions were put out to the public was so everyone could use them who wanted to, Plus if this was implimented what would be next? Jokestone?

Speaking as an herbalist, I'm not a fan of this idea. If newbies want to harvest, or use any trade skill, they're welcome to. Sure, a few people are gonna abuse this, but I think the best solution is for the admin to use IRE's spiffy ability to find alts, and find a way to track people who are making herbalists alts who suddenly disappear. Also, keep in mind that the newbies could only harvest the very low level herbs, and the higher up herbs will always be reserved for those of us who have invested into the skill.

how high up is galingale?
Karrah2005-03-10 04:07:40
Maybe maybe, like I said, I'm not completely familiar with the whole harvest process, but the descreasing herbs isn't comforting at all. I'm not sure if they have it in Lusternia, but in other realms if I remember correctly, communes or their equivalents could log who collected certain herbs in certain locations.

I was a Sylvan in Achaea, and we had the skill concoctions so we could harvest. So my background is only in achaea, but in achaea they don't have it logged there is a skill that tells you who has the last to harvest a certain plant, So in Achaea if you over harvest and someone sees they report it to Oakstone(Jokestone) who then will usually slap you with a fine and then maybe even term of Enemy Status. But the problem with that is that Jokestone has a Complete monopoly(sp?) Meaning if you tick them off or start working for an enemy or the likes they can just enemy you which will stop you from harvesting period... So Oakstone/Jokestone is a BAD idea.

P.S. If herbs are really decreasing that much, couldn't you just buy a Manse and put a garden in it? Plus the less herbs means the more gold per herb it is tongue.gif

Yeah, because THAT's a great solution. Let me fill my eighteen rooms with herbs, you know, instead of picking them in the wilde.

That's not going to cost anything...

It's call ed report violators of the policies. HELP SECONDS is pretty clear on the fact that you can't harvest for an alt.

Is there a reason for pocketbelts outside of holding more than 2K herbs?

if not, I would think that getting rid of pocketbelts would help, or limiting pocketbelts to one person, i.e if your not wearing the pocketbelt, it drops the herbs into your inventory. (could be a neat combat tactic as well)

tongue.gif I use pocketbelts to hold extra herbs. *shifty*

Did I just announce that I'm a good thief target? ohmy.gif Or would be if you could catch me while I was d/c anyway.
Unknown2005-03-10 12:51:49
I not only hold extra herbs in a pocketbelt, but I sometimes deal in mail order herbs and you can't stick 500 plants in a letter. wink.gif

Oh goody, another to share the big target sign with me biggrin.gif
silimaur2005-03-10 13:33:39
i just get really annoyed when theres an honest harvester like me replanting just so some newb can use all of em up again
Niara2005-03-10 14:07:06
I see no decreasing herbs...just as I write this I got 1000 galingale and that while Iasmos is harvesting too. Sometimes some herbs become rare for a few rl-days...and?
There will always be some players who abuse things, including making new chars for the sole purpose to gather herbs, but they are few and disappear again.
Ralshan2005-03-10 17:44:35
For what it's worth (which isn't much, I'm sure) galingale is quite low in Herbs, before Adept certainly.
Typhus2005-03-10 18:41:21
Yeah, it is. Had a new char to see just how easy it was to do what you guys said. I think I picked quite a few before just leaving them laying on the roadway.
Summer2005-03-11 09:13:21
Anyone thinks a possible solution might be to move galingale to about 300 lessons into Herbs or so? A fairly serious alt can still get it before they're level 21 if they put most of their lessons into it. An alt just for harvesting would have to spend at least some time bashing up the levels, assuming they don't buy any credits.
mel2005-03-11 09:16:34
Why bother ... just do what Buho said and report them.
Using an alt for harvesting is a violation of help seconds so no need to make all these changes to accomodate this
