I'm voting yes.
Shiri2005-03-28 22:46:02
4-0 so far.
Yep.
Downgrade demesnes! Upgrade runes/illusions/stag too, maybe.

No. Downgrade passive moving into trees, passive currents, passive hunger.
Rhysus2005-03-28 22:47:57
Just downgrade Summon.
Silvanus2005-03-28 22:48:29
Demesne summon to be stopped by monolith, make demesne summon take one power.
Unknown2005-03-28 22:48:51
Too much passiveness.
Shiri2005-03-28 22:51:21
I don't think summon's the only problem. Demesnes have way way too much influence with or without summon. Yes, the mages should be able to survive 1on1, but they shouldn't have this much of an effect on team combat AS WELL. Guardians and Warriors don't get that.
Silvanus2005-03-28 22:59:02
But thats the whole point of mages, team combat. 400 room demesnes. They should be able to survive one on one not in a demesne, but they shouldn't be able to kill one on one not in a demesne. They should be able ot survive and kill one on one in a demesne, they should not be able to survive and kill 1v2, or even 1v4 in a demesne, and thats the problem. One Mage can wipe out a team alone.

Who's the one person who voted no? Explaination?
Gwylifar2005-03-28 23:07:04
I'd like to see demesnes have more strategics to them. From what I've seen, and admittedly I've never been a mage so I could be skewed, but once it's created you can almost simply "turn everything on and watch". I know I've heard tales of mages killing people and not even realizing it. I don't have a simple idea of how to change it that way, mind you, but if they were going to be overhauled, I'd want to see them made a little less automatic.
Note: I don't mean to suggest a demesne by itself can kill a skilled fighter without the mage making creative tactical use of additional skills. I just mean that there's room for improvement in making there be some tactics in setting up the demesne in the first place. Make tradeoffs and choices instead of making it so there's little reason not to just turn on everything, for instance.
(Edit: I'm not the person who voted no, just in case anyone thinks I'm responding to the post above me.)

I'd eagerly take a demense downgrade, if it meant Stag got upgraded.

Some prankster most likely.

And illusions. It's not that helpful either.
But right.
Silvanus2005-03-29 01:22:02
4 people voted no. No one has explained yet.
Shiri2005-03-29 01:27:04
Probably the same 4 people that don't think Moon and Stag need upgrades. You're probably safe on that one.
Unknown2005-03-29 01:44:53
I voted no. Mages are about their demesnes, you downplay that and what's the point of them? Summon and sap might need some minor tweaks, but you don't have to overhaul the entire class because of that.
Shiri2005-03-29 01:46:05
Upgrade illusions, runes, stag and the non-broken parts of dreamweaving (passive blackout, urgh.)
Then they still have a point, but not horrid effects that make village influencing "wait, is it taint or forest? Forest? Damn, we're screwed."

I think poison gas, passive demesne tree flinging, and passive currents should be toned down, thats about it for passive affects.
Thorgal2005-03-29 01:49:10
Or...double demesne effects tick.
That'd fix embedded blackout as well.
And the mage would actually have to time his active attacks to work with the demesne. (--> i.e. strategics and timing come into play)

No surprise, the same one who voted that Stag/Moon don't need upgrades. Considering his current class, he isn't very objective is he?
"DOWNGRADE MYY ENNEMIES!!!1 NAD LYKE MAKE MY SKILLZ GODLY EVEN WEN EVRY 1 SAYS THEY NEED TO BE CHANGED!"
He can't admit certain skills need upgrades just because they are used by the opposite side ICly, and can't admit demesnes need to be tweaked. (Passive putting into trees IS lame, passive stun is lame, hunger is INCREDIBLY lame, stripping enchantment and power defense is lame (though any other defenses are fine)).
Edit: Changed the word downgraded to tweaked.
Another Edit: I'm getting better at creating fake "internet chat" style of writing.
